@dahendu1, I do have a whole set of lessons that break it down step-by-step and invite you to play it along with me at a slowed-down pace. These lessons live on the guitar lesson site, GuitarTricks, which you can try for free for 2 weeks at bit(dot)ly/2weeksfree. Just sign in, and search for Amazing Grace. I promise you'll learn to play this song (and many others too!)
Liza!! Thanks a million...i used to play simple chords when I was younger...some 30 years ago and I totally forgot all of them...now I wanted to play again...I borrowed my daughter's guitar( my gift to her when she gave birth to her first baby son eight months ago)...in 5 minutes I play Amazing Grave...I luv you...luv you Liza mmmwwwwahhh...Now I can play the song my favorite with my grandbaby Gabe!!!
Hi. Great video but can you explain the strumming pattern please? I see it seems to be in groups of three as in . . .1,2,3. Which strings are being strummed on the '1', the '2' and the '3'.
? Is all the strumming 'down' (D) for all the strokes or is it : U D D.
@777hayes It is 3 downstrokes, basically. The first one hits just the bass note (lowest note) of the chord. The second two focus mainly on a gentle stroke across the highest three strings of the guitar. Occasionally I may toss in a gentle upstroke in between those basic strokes. I've got a whole course on Acoustic Strumming for Beginners that might help you out. you can find more info at my site, GettingStartedWithGuitar (dot) net.
@JoeDeeaz True, but everyone thinks its easier to name it a C chord cause its still the C chrod shape. Waste of time to transform it twice in your head before you actually play it.
Thanks a lot for posting this video. I had the chords, but could not for the life of me get a good strumming pattern going. Now I can go to my mother in law's for Easter and play this for her, as requested!
@oaklandfla2 Maybe so she can sing in her range? I think without the capo she'd have to sing an octave higher, which is pretty high. Just an educated guess.
@scatkid97 No, she doesn't. If you know the three basic chords, you can play this song. It's very easy. If you're looking for a step by step tutorial, then maybe you should take a paid lesson. She's doing you a favor by putting this video up. You're not entitled, just in case you didn't know.
i love this version of amazing grace. ive been looking for accurate chords online all day and so far this is the closest to the version that im used to..or at least thae version that i can sing accurately. thanks for the help Lisa! its easy and sounds great
Thank you, beautifully performed and sung well! Easy to follow. You do the song justice. Now all I have to to is figure out how to tune my guitar and start practicing.
Thank you for posting this video! I've been looking for a simple chord progression for this song. You've help out a lot. For what it's worth...this is and easy lesson. Thank you.
I just started playing and the g chord is all six strings. It is clear that she is not hitting all six on the down or up strums but she never tells you what strings to hit . Not really a great lesson.
Hola Lisa muchas gracias por compartir lo que sabes. Tocas y cantas hermoso . Espero ver nuevos videos pues me encanta escucharte. Saludos desde Mexico

The capo just makes the chords/song sound a little brighter and higher.

Nice! I like it! I have been trying to practice this song for awhile. Not able to come close. Do you have the chords for it?

Im confused...Why do you need a Capo? You could just play A Major D Major E Major without a capo and it will sound exact same.

Capo at the second fret is in the key of A...finger a regular C, and you get a D
Finger a D, and you sound off an E...finger a regular G, and you sound off an A...
A capo just makes it higher by one step....
