@chrisdrumz, in fairness to Sabbath, according to Iommi the record company made them call it a Black Sabbath, they wanted to call themselves Seventh Star, same thing happened when Ian Gillan sang with them, they wanted to call that band Born Again.
I recently became a fan of Black Country Communion and it made me remember this show in Detroit. W.A.S.P. blew Sabbath off the stage. Glen had the lyrics to Paranoid taped to the stage and when the smoke machine came on he couldn't see the lyrics, so he stumbled through them. I remember the crowd not being happy...
I would've enjoyed the show(and album) if it wasn't trying to be passed off as SABBATH. Aside from Tony ,the band from 86-92 was in NO WAY Sabbath(aside from name only). Serious damage was done to the name in that period. They didn't even tour the states in '89 cause they couldn't sell any tix(guess rock fans are NOT that stupid). The band should've been called IOMMI and toured theatres or larger clubs.
you are PARTLY correct. they did tour the states in 89, but albeit cancelled the stour 2 weeks into it cuz lack of record promotion. in the uk, they did rather well on tour
They did an instrumental medley of 'Zero The Hero'. That riff is pure evil itself. Noone could sing it like Gillan though. I wish someone else attempted at least. Tony Martin claimed he could sing material from ever album with no problem in an interview once back in the late 80's. Why overlook 'Born Again' and for the mostly 'Seventh Star' then??? Love those two albums.
NICE!!! I thought I was the ONLY die-hard Sabbath fan who liked this song!!! Having said that, I regret to say the album was my least favorite in their entire catalogue!! That's the album that should've been called Heaven And Hell!! The first side is fine, the second side pitiful!! The real Heaven And Hell, however, I rank second, only to Paranoid!!
@masterpatric07 He had lost his voice back in '86, took some years to recover, he said in an interview. Ray Gillen did a fantastic job filling in mid-tour. I love 'Seventh Star'. I'm glad someone taped one of his performances.
I was at this show at Cobo Arena. Sorry to say, but Glenn Hughes was horrible. No voice what so ever. I actually felt sorry for him, because the show went on!
I think Sabbath should stop working with Ozzy all together, he had every chance to record new music with them, and did'nt ..He has so many issues going on. They should remain recording new music with Ronnie Dio provided he is healthy enough to continue.
I agree with you... but don't expect Ray Gillen to return from death, man. Also, it's sad but Tony doesn't sing quite well nowadays, Glenn has lost his voice, and Ronnie too. So, the only choice is Ozzy: he hasn´t lost his voice since he has never had any but his "tuneless screams" -Tony Martin dixit-.
That is Glenn Hughes in hes drug days!He lost hes way for awhile but is back better then ever.Listen to sample of a song called Golden One off Voodoo Child. Just amazing!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Thats Ray Gillen, not Glenn Hughes. Glenn Hughes is nowhere near as big as Ray was, and Glenn is much more lively on stage. He also has a much better vocal range than Ray, though I like both singers.
No,it's Glenn, one of four dates he did.He had a bone fragment in his sinuses from a fight, plus he was detoxing and went on a binge when they fired him, according to Glenn.
I have used the seventhstar name for years as a pen name heralding great influence and inspiration from this very album and song. This footage brings back so many memories from that time. I lost my virginity the night this tour came to Cleveland on March 21rst of that year - 1986. I was a senior in high school and unfortunatly this was my first trip to a Black Sabbath concert. I will never - never forget that time in my life
Of Glenn Hughes ability to produce downright useless and annoying vocal sounds, like at 4:38, which have the power to destroy any classic hard rock song, an experience listeners of late DP Mk.IV live bootlegs could not save themselves from, the KLF made good use later when recording America: What Time Is Love.
Moreover he was addicted to chocolate, and the band had to hire a bodyguard to stop him from eating too much sweets 'cause he gained a lot of weight day after day.
i know that you douchebag, thats why its such a poor album since glenn hughes sings, stop being a douchebag to people and get a life, i read joe siegler black sabbath online homepage every day so i probably know more then you wish you knew
well mr blacksabbathisgod, if you know your stuff [which obviously you don't] seventh star was originally a tony iommi solo album but, to get out of the vertigo [uk] contract he was obliged to do another black sabbath album, hence, my friend, seventh star by black sabbath featuring tony iommi
This album is one of the best Black Sabbath albums! Killersongs like In For The Kill, Seventh Star, Turn To Stone, Heart Like A Wheel, In Memory, Sphinx The Guardian!
SEVENTH STAR was a good album, but Glenn Hughes was not the good singer for the band, after G.hughes left the band, Ray Gillen ..it was another story !THE SINGER OF BLACK SABBATH for me,better than DIO? YES..
He messed up lyrics a bit. He's a bass player, and when he was live with sabbath he didn't play bass. He had some drug issues, no bass, and got into a fight that lead to internal bleeding into his vocal cords as well.
It might be on wikipedia, but it's also in "Black Sabbath: Never Say Die" by Garry-Sharpe Young. Guitaristbmh is completely correct. However, that event occurred AFTER the above show in Detroit. Hughes wasn't right for Sabbath and he wasn't in the best shape anyway...Gary Moore got rid of him during the making of "Run For Cover" and rightfully so.
That said, I still think he's a good singer. He was good in Purple and he was good on the Iommi solo albums as well. Just not right for any Black Sabbath material other than the album he did.
The Seventh Sign was a very under rated lp. It was suppose to be a solo lp for Tony but at the last minute the record label threw the Sabbath name on it so it would sell better.
Black Sabbath is a Legend and we love them. Everyone should listen to them. They are one of our biggest influences. Our band Amaggot Bordir owes alot to them. We just added a new video today on my profile if anyone wants to hear something new and heavily influenced by Sabbath.
This was Hughes in his monster-period, hehe.. I love this singer.. He is my favorite next to Peter Gabriel. I saw him in around 2000, and from the stage he admitted he didn't remember the 80's
Damn dose this make the memories flood. My daughter, now 21 born April second, was in the womb during this concert. The mother as big as a house was surrounded by other concert goers on Tony's side of the stage providing a protective barrier around her so the crowd couldn't jostle her. W.A.S.P opened this particular show.
i believe thats eric singer on drums and dan spitz on bass , or dave, i dont remember his name..lol, its the brother of the guy that used to play lead guitar for anthrax
all sabbath fans are entitled to their opinions.those who do, decides their favorite singers. mine starts with ozzy; dio is the modern-day sabbath voice. all the others are sabbath classics. sabbath is a strong title to follow; that's why sabbath is always a heavy favorite by many different fans. the whole world loves sabbath; but only with ozzy osbourne; the real sabbath voice!
