Nice fish man, definitely seen my fair of skis this summer when I was back home on lake of the woods this past summer. For anyone who is curious about the post catch and release mortality rate of these beautiful fish when handled properly should definitely check out the results of this Catch and Release study led by Shaun Landsmond. There is some good info in there.
@lovesskiingpow Thanks for the comment. We usually get to fish LOTW once a year, maybe twice. Quite a magical and awesome lake. We were there second week of July this year and struggled, hit the mayfly hatch and massive cold front. Caught a bunch of pike over 40" and had great walleye and smallmouth action. Love that place!
this is a safe hold we use. we grab the gill plate and never touch the gills, this technique is accepted and commonly used by guides and biologists when handling fish. thank you for the concern.
Which you have since you know a "gill plate" from the "gills" lol. Bravo on the release since most muskies just like pike or lake trout over 12 pounds are females and not as numerous as males.
if the first muskie i catch is legal and i pay 100s of dollars on fishin stuff i have a right to keep my first 1 and thats the way its gonna be i dont care who talks trash about me because i do things my way its that simple peace
bulldawgs work good, but they are a pain in the ass to remove. Way to many hooks on them. I take off the trebles, or use a 10" FinS fish with an 11/0 hook in the same situation.
Due to compression for online posting, much of the video quality is lost. The fish was caught on a pounder, sorry you can't see it on this clip. You can on the digital quality footage. Sorry you have a problem with this lure.
Large muskies are few and far between (in most areas) and need to be released. Many more educated anglers are out there today, and if everyone kept them the fishing would go down hill very fast. Here in N.Wisconsin we're experiencing our best fishing in 30 years due to catch and release. Replica mounts are available and look great.
thankfully most people who catch fish like that are not like you kazam and have realized the value of nature conservation. take a picture...get a replica...release them!
poeple like u make me sick, you are an embarassment to the sport, and an embarassment to the rest of us true fisherman who enjoy the sport of catch and release. get a fucking replica, lasts twice as long and looks a hell of alot better
If people are reasonable with what they keep, there is no problem with keeping fish. In fact, in some cases it will promote fish to grow larger in the lake if there is less competition.
Especially when a large percentage of all fish released die anyway, especially the big ones, I don't think its that big of a deal if people are smart with what they keep.
I am not saying I don't support cpr, because I do. But to claim keeping fish is an embarrassment is kind of shocking.
a simple internet search will tell you the differences between pike and muskie. while very similar in many ways, they are definitely not the same. muskie grow much larger, but sadly are poor breeders unlike pike. also, pound for pound a muskie will badly outfight a pike. both fun to catch though once they get big enough!
same fish but in canada they no them as muskies but they are pike had a muski and a pike side by side the only differance is they grow bigger over there because of climate
im from canada and i know northern pike and musky look very similar but there is some more differences other than size.. the colour is different.. that was a musky (white no spots) northern pike is white spots on a darker backround.

Never hold a fish behind the gills unless you plan on keeping it. This damages the fish.

Shame that we don't got any muskies in Europe, but we got Northern Pike.
Its really good that you release those fishes when you've catched them once.:)

Great job!! Beautiful fish!
swimbait1 3 years ago
Beautiful creature, returned alive.
In the UK we don't have this Musky species, though we are blessed with the Northern Pike.
Good pike water is rare where I live, so most of us return them alive, when we can find them.
"To catch is greater then to kill".
Best wishes.

can u get a replica the exact siz eof your fish? and how much do they cost?
sgttractors145 4 years ago
Yes, you can get a replica of the exact size and coloration. I believe the cost is around $13 an inch, which is not much more that a regular mount.
