coming from someone who practically breathes the Superunknown album, I never really spent time letting this song grow on me. But now I see it in a new light. It kind of has a Doors vibe to it. magical and mysterious.
Just re-read my initial post. "Supergarden"... woops! lol! Anyway, thanks for the clarification, @ghostwhiskey, I wasn't aware of the true meaning behind it. Dunno how many times I've actually listened to the song, but probably never really understood what it was on about. I haven't picked up on the lyrics like I have the other songs.
This, in my humble opinion, is easily the best track on this album, thanks ada1001. I originally had this on cassette and have owned the CD twice and probably listened to the whole thing many thousands of times over the years. My last superunknown CD got incinerated after I crashed my car and it caught fire a few years ago (it wasn't a limo but I still find it somewhat ironic!). Very uncompromising lyrics and attitude. The day I tried to live has to come a close second..
@ninjafatballz, just about all of the songs were awesome, and I certainly don't disagree with you. 4th of July is great but given I'm not from the US, it doesn't have the same patriotic feel to it that it would to others. Mailman is also pretty awesome but my personal preference, I've just loved Limo Wreck above the rest, and it's probably one of the most underestimated songs here. Everyone remembers Black Hole Sun and Spoonman but none of the others.
@rangerishot I'm with you dude, after listening to this album non stop for two years after it came out, this was the song I loved most. Couldn't get enough of this album. Of all the songs on it, this one will always stand out as my favourite
@rangerishot 4th of july is just a title, theres no real patriotic signifigance. he's just using it as a metaphor for explosions in the sky and such since in the US we light fireworks to celebrate on that day
Possibly the best song on this album. I always liked this one better than the rest, even though it wasn't a single and was on the B-side. @Darkromani, I remember the cassette too, it was the only one my sister played so much the tape started to wear thin! Loved it, Supergarden fan from way back.
i always felt this song predicted a couple tragedies. first verse almost sounds like the twin towers being blown up, then the flood in Louisiana. who knows what the third one may be.
Cobain went through some rough shit with drugs dude, you can't call him a dick unless you want to come off as being one of the most ignorant people on youtube. He greatly influenced Dave who in turn created the Foo Fighters and they're amazing so he's no dick, he was a great person that let drugs take the fun out of his life, its just sad. "end of story"
@HazeePublications so if ur parents killed them selves because of the media theyed be dicks you have the mind of a adolecent teenage bitch whos going threw her period for the first time dont call someone a dick for killing them self you retarted ass basterd
can't stand when people say "GRUNGE" none of the artist ever called it that. that was a media created idea just like the west and east coast rap feud.Soundgarden always stood out, I'm still listing to them so what does that say lol. "THE DAY I TRIED TO LIVE, I WALLOWED IN THE BLOOD AND MUD WITH ALL THE OTHER PIGS" Still rings true to this day

Nirvana should not be there in the list. they 'are too mainstream except Bleach that just allright. Chris never wear a pajama on stage. grunge don't need gimmick but need a great sound. Soundgarden makes the 90's Rock becomes the best scene but someone came and burst with his bloody style then kill himself and the scene suddenly. thats how it goes...
@BenHarleim dude i love soundgarden, but nirvana was fuckin awesome too. soundgarden got really mainstream too, and it was because of nirvana's success. nirvana wasn't trying to sound mainstream, its just that they had a message and sound that was embraced by a lot of people in the early 90's. all the grunge bands were amazing.
Its interesting that the verse is sort similar to dazed and confused and the verse riff of Rhinosaur is similar to a part of dazed and confused as well. Thats pretty cool tho.
@Audioslave3 Grohl's a great, great drummer. They're both very different, but both do have that great "Bonham esque style" but I don't believe Cameron to be "way better" not that there's anyway to really measure it anyway.
Grunge never existed, metal didn't die, and most musical critics, historians, biographers or whatever you want to call them, have completely raped the actual history of the 90's music scene.
Is there any other bands that can be compared to Soundgarden, Audioslave, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains? Or will I be listening to just them my whole life?
It's amazing to see so many positive comments to all these 90's bands.. Nirvana, Soundgarden, PJ, etc... @TheRis81 are yo shitting me???? We are talking about TRUE rock man.... That "thing" of Nirvana was a good band... but it was just a teenage wave ... inmature music for inmature tastes...
@loweird i disagree.... i'll admit nirvana are not a great band and kurt not a truly great vocalist or guitarist, but he's a hell of a songwriter. chris cornell dropped off the wagon with a lot of the audioslave stuff later on. his writing went to shit along with the heavy riffing. only morello saves it from being drudgery
@TheRis81@TheRis81 First of all, no comparation between morello and thayil... no no no, Sadly Nirvana and Cobain lirycs were the most just a teenagers speak. I think you need to listen more Soundgarden...
@loweird dude i think you're slightly biased towards soundgarden... and what are u telling me the lyrics on superunknown are somehow not 'teenagers speak'? and if it isnt, pray tell what u consider them to be? adult speak as opposed to teeny bop? and by the way its 'comparison' not 'comparation'. and u still havent alluded to cornells later work with audioslave. his vocal belting is still intact but his songwriting died in the arse. kurt cobain was a great songwriter, just cos u dont think so...
@TheRis81 Sorry mi bad english... I already have troubles speaking spanish...
When I say teenagers lirycs I'm taling about de message and the elaboration of the images and metaphores.
Tighter and tighter is a song from the last album of Soundgarden. Even if the last material of Chris Cornell isn't the best, the whole work across the years is unquestionable, even in his last works...
I think that the most songs of Cobain sounds good but didn't have enough elaboration.
@loweird im a massive soundgarden fan anyway i fully respect them as one of the best bands of the 90's but there is a lot of disrespect for nirvans floating around and i just cant listen to it cos in the end it was nirvana who popularised 'grunge'. are they best band that came out of seattle? no definitley they weren't but they were kick-arse nonetheless
@Nighaz lmao thats the biggest opinion ever! except alice n chains #1 layne is cooler than cornell and nirvana not that far down they least tied with pearljam, soundgarden #2 hehe
I grew up on Soundgarden and FNM and all I can say is Im happy that I had the chance to listen to them. Especially Soundgarden brings back so many good memories. The songs are perfect, raw, powerful, good lyrics, Cornell's singing simply amazing, you cannot ask for more. Im happy timeless music like this still exists amidst all this disgusting 3 and half minutes limited pop shit and vomit this world is drowning in. Keep the real music alive.
how bout the awesome bass track by Ben..out of the norm timing beats from Matt, and some incomprehensible guitar parts from Kim..add all tht to Chris's voice and lyrics, and u have a masterpiece
@gelladria More epic than Cornell's voice? Ummm...that's a tough one, alright. His lyrics, maybe. Kim's reversed, phased in licks? His non-reversed licks? What a trip. The drumming. The bass line? The riff at 4:44 coming in like vengeance and redemption itself? Maybe you're right. Cornell's voice is amazing.
@bcancun123 To me, The song is about the rise of civilization. We get so high and everything gets bigger, but at some point our baloon is gonna pop. And cociety will come down. And Chris is saying that he's not gonna be suprised when it happens.
The visual effects placed with this video, I can see that being stoner .The band was drug free its entire run. Yeah Cornell was a user in his youth and maybe there is a tinge of reference but its hard to find the reference here but I guess it comes down to perspective. As for what I am, was or not, I suppose my perspective lacks youth and requirement for acceptance.
@sarah38e "often interpreted to be dealing with substance abuse, suicide, and depression. Cornell was inspired by the writings of Sylvia Plath at the time" Soundgarden Wiki, "You're supposed to alter your mind — but with music, though, not the other shit" Ben Shepard Seconds interview, "Soundgarden had always been drug-free, but suddenly he was using "everything", Cornell Interview by Dave Simpson. Can't find anything supporting your claim.
grunge is a lie, none of the bands of Seattle sounded similar. Was just an invention of the press and record companies to catalog groups and thus easier to sell the discs. Such a shame that Soundgarden did not have more recognition, I really love them, they are my fav ! hugs from Argentina :)
my god....i still think chris had such a soulful voice back then. no duplicate. now...well now its just sad. i still love him tho, he just lost his way.
@tylertheguitardude Lol, I'm not alone, I'm 15 and i know all the lyrics on super unknown. It is THE GREATEST cd out there, If you don't have it, go steal it.
@tylertheguitardude im 16 and have been listening to this stuff since the womb. Literally, my mom used to put soundgarden and alice in chains and megadeth and stuff on her stomach using headphones when she was pregnant =)
funny thing is I recpognized all of it years later when I started listening to it
I dont mean to hit on you AndyMalcom1,i understand wht ur sayin..but i think calling soundgarden or any seattle band grunge is the biggest mistake ever,i dont recall any of em calling themselves a grunge band..that was the phrase coined up by the media as the were more grunge in looks than anythin else..soundgarden always will be famous for black hole sun et al,but songs like limo wreck are much more unique to me..great songs are never A sides..
This is soundgarden's music let the convo's be about the band and the people in it.

TheRis81 11 months ago
@TheRis81 Sorry mi bad english... I already have troubles speaking spanish...
When I say teenagers lirycs I'm taling about de message and the elaboration of the images and metaphores.
Tighter and tighter is a song from the last album of Soundgarden. Even if the last material of Chris Cornell isn't the best, the whole work across the years is unquestionable, even in his last works...
I think that the most songs of Cobain sounds good but didn't have enough elaboration.
My respects any way

@loweird im a massive soundgarden fan anyway i fully respect them as one of the best bands of the 90's but there is a lot of disrespect for nirvans floating around and i just cant listen to it cos in the end it was nirvana who popularised 'grunge'. are they best band that came out of seattle? no definitley they weren't but they were kick-arse nonetheless
TheRis81 11 months ago 3
@TheRis81 listen the song tighter and tighter ;)

TheObserver78 1 year ago
this song is so freaking epic...definitely my definitely my soundgarden fave. is there anything more amazing than chris cornell's voice?
gelladria 1 year ago

Cornell went into rehab for alcoholism multiple times during his tenure in Soundgarden.
sarah38e 1 year ago

Cornell is/was so great - the driving force behind Soundgarden
diandra111 1 year ago 2
Soundgarden is a band, which means collaboration between the four members. If it were just Cornell then why was Audioslave so disappointing?

my god....i still think chris had such a soulful voice back then. no duplicate. now...well now its just sad. i still love him tho, he just lost his way.

@bakakabamanuke That's the second time I've seen SG referenced as stoner rock but I don't see it.
hobbes2120 1 year ago
If you don't see it, you must not be a stoner. If that's the 2nd time then there you have it!
