I don't think that professional animators use Blender. Mind you, they might learn some animation techniques using it, but it's probably not powerful enough for a professional. I have a friend who does animation work professionally and he uses Maya a lot. He also creates his own animation plug-ins for Maya.

@Soulsphere001 just because blenders free doesnt mean its not as good or better than maya or 3ds max. take a look at some of the animations made in blender, like Big Buck Bunny and Sintel

You might have a point, but I seriously doubt that Blender is anywhere near as good as the more expensive programs. Would not everyone be using Blender if it were as good or better? Still, I don't know enough about those programs to really say. It may also depend on what you're using it for.
