  • i think the commentary is awesome. i loved the retro tv ads too. this is a very well done episode.

  • I want Chuckie Cheese now...

  • Same game, different name...LOL CALL OF DUTY

  • George Plimpton would disagree with the statement: "Intellivision is clearly superior." >D

  • Grand Theft Auto hmmm

  • im 20 yrs old and i love those ataris and handhelds.i have five handheld LED games.my favorite is the big head to head basball game :D

  • Pong Consoles - Call of Duty 30 years earlier.

  • @ProkoLokor Pong was more like a combo of CoD/Halo/Wii (when it first came out) in popularity at that time period.

  • all pong games. kinda like all the fps games now?

  • can you upload the original videos? if not then who has them on youtube?

  • PONG= CALL OF DUTY TODAY

  • The year I was born. Cool show, I can't wait to see more.

  • GTA was a series? I am informed! thank you!

  • wait a minute...so pong was the first street fighter only made by different makers :O

  • Roo, your work kick ass but the other Retroware guys creep the hell out of me !

  • Roo, I've been a big fan of your work since I got hooked on your 8-Bit gem retrospectives, and I must say that while the quality on those pieces were quite good, you seem to have once again raised the bar.

It's also nice to see someone getting as many viewers as you do actually responding and interacting with your audience.

    Great stuff!

  • Unfunny joke after unfunny joke, less retroware tv weirdos please

  • Moar!

  • Who's interviewing them? From the looks of it, they're talking to a camera lens.

  • "Because when you think high grade electronics, you think 'It MUST be made of wood'!"

  • Badass!! Great job rw! But i gotta say, fck Chuck E Cheese! It's all about Showbiz Pizza

  • Chuck E. Cheese = Vegas for kids with b&w TV.

  • i have half a stunt cycle controller.

    Half.

    Yeah even i dont even.

  • wow this is a straight copy of the i love the... show on vh1

  • This is awesome! It reminds me of VH1's "I Love The..." series, but that isn't a bad thing at all. I think this is great! Thanks for posting! :D

  • Freaking awesome so far!

  • u gotta admit u retorwaretv guys do some pretty creative stuff...like u try to make actual tv quality shows like i love the 80s...gotta a lot of respect for u guys for trying new stuff and not just doing what everyone else does

  • Wait a sec, I thought back then Chucky Cheese was Showbiz Pizza and they changed it later in like what...late 80s or 90s maybe?

  • I am loving this series, really reminds me of the I love the __'s on VH1

  • I wanted to like that. I really did. But it just didn't happen.

  • it was the year I was born, so it will always be a remarkable year in my life :). But yes, it was defiantly a pivotal year in video game history.

  • 8:48 "Enduro" is short for "Endurance", as in endurance racing; like Indy 500 or 24 Hours Of Le Mans

  • i swear Pat is on weed.

  • first game i ever made was pong. Actually "crazy pong" from a python class. Everytime the ball hits the paddle it spawned a new ball. I tried to make it random but it kept spawning behind the paddle. I used my own bitmaps and it was very fun.

  • i just wanna say that I am glad you guys did this. I like it. I want to see another zapper video please!

  • Pat looks fucked up.

  • i think that green screen lighting problem is retro looking.

  • This is awesome...a new series based on Videogame history.

Reminds me of that retro section in the GamesTM magazine :D

  • omg! The pong systems back then is almost like this generation... Systems playing the exact same thing but with different names...

  • Awesome vid. Better than iRate gamers video.

  • Wow great video. It kinda like Irate Gamer History of Video Games, except the people here talk with passion, are much more talented, and it is an overall better produced video. On second thought it is nothing like the Irate Gamer's.

  • i enduro

  • This was really good, but a big problem I had was that the lighting on the green (or blue) screen wasn't really that good and lead to a lot of background bleeding. It's more noticeable when the subject moves a more, especially Roo and his glasses.

  • @smackknot Trust me, we're noting the tech issues, and will smooth things out for 1978! This is as much a pilot episode as anything else.

  • Couldn't you get people one who aren't unfunny cunts?

  • Good show and concept, but even from a Retroware stand point you guys are probably my age. none of you where around (consciously)in the 70th's so this nostalgic interview style seems a little forced.

Don't really care and cant wait for the next one, but Roo asked for criticism. :P

  • @Hollander113 That's a fair criticism. But we're all late 20's to early 30's, so we're at least familiar with the time period - We all remember the Atari 2600, Star Wars, handheld LED games, and the like. Besides, Lance, John, Pat, Ian, Billy, and Jay are all hardcore collectors, so they have a lot of first-hand experience with even the oldest game consoles.

Things'll only get more familiar from here. ;)

  • @ClanOfTheGrayWolf i'm 28 so the 70s aren't even in my memory banks, but since my family wasn't rich, nor were they up on current trends. i got what could be afforded. Atarti 2600? yup, had one into the early 90s. I still had a Comadore 64 until just 4 years ago (the comadore headquarters was 20 mins from me, which is now the hq for QVC in pottstown,pa.). if i was lucky i got a video game system 5-6 years after it came out (as long as it was replaced on the market by the next new one).

  • @ClanOfTheGrewWolf any possiblity that you can post a messeage on your chanel whenever a new one is out? This would be awesome because from what I see, this serise is great so far.

    ~Chance

  • @ChanceDeath Will do!

  • Lol "there are other things in the world besides video games, they are just less important" :P

    Master quote!!

  • I love the 80's.

  • lol, Jay and Silent Bob @ 7:15

  • *sigh* I was bron too late. I'll never have the same gaming memories as you guys.

  • it like watching Vh1 except better and no douchebags celebrities.

  • i kinda love this new series

  • its kinda of funny to think what impressed people back then

    and what impresses people now

  • wow this is "I love the 80's" on VH1 for video games.

  • Could you put a link to part 2 in the description? I can't find it anywhere on Retroware.

  • @TheGamedawg Done and done

  • Awesome, very well constructed and informative to people that didn't live in those years.

  • Great stuff so far. Definitely has me interested.

Only problem, I'll check out future episodes when I have the patience. Sorry but for me Retrowaretv navigates horribly slow.

  • @IronBuddha80 it wont after tonight. It is being transferred to a faster server

  • @Captain8Bit That's great to hear! I really like who you have over there, but never really visited so much because of the slow issues.

  • @IronBuddha80 same for me, in fact half the site doesnt even load for me. i'm not sure if anyone else is having this same issue.

  • @IronBuddha80 That's being addressed right now - the site's moving to a dedicated server. So hopefully by tomorrow load times will be much better for all.

  • Watch out for the next Pong sequel, Chess. They say at the highest level tournaments, the ball only moves one pixel every 10 minutes.

  • Are all the parts gonna be uploaded on your channel?

  • @RunTitan09 Nope, just this first part. You'll have to go to retrowaretv *dot* com for the 2nd part (out right now) and all future episodes. Though I'm sure I'll tweet/Facebook post about them when they come out.

  • Great show, keep 'em coming!

Also guys, no one gives a shit who was first.

  • Nice intro.

Overall it's a good combination between G4's Icons and VH-1's I Love the x0's show.

I would have preferred a bit less of the Chucky Cheese info, less jokes, and more gaming info.

I also think it should have started with 1972, and not because it's my birth year either I swear, but because THAT was the true start of home gaming with Ralph Baer's Brown Box. You know.. the guy who Nolan Bushnell ripped off!

Poor Ralph. He's the true "Father of video gaming".

    Looking forward to Ep2.

  • @videogameobsession This is just the pilot, so we're fine tuning and open to criticism. However, I will say that 1977 seemed to be the natural start point for the series, since the introduction of the Atari 2600 is seen by many at the start of "modern" video gaming. (and we'll hit that in part 3 ;) )

  • @videogameobsession

I actually met Mr. Baer, though I neglected to ask him about that.

  • ooops, a goal. HAHAHAH.

  • Looks like a TV Show but with us the gamers, pretty damn cool

  • Really awesome show! This is a must-see!

  • 4:52 "The most exciting game you'll ever see on your TV set" If the people in this ad seen video games today, they'd probably shit themselves.

  • This was awesome. First time I got to watch the other guys on Retroware. You guys were funny and informative here. Can't wait for the next episode.

  • 1st comment on video! Yay!

  • Good concept, but poor execution. I actually thought this would be a well structured and informative research dump that would make the viewer equate with distinct times and understand certain oddities of the videogames of today. However,it ammounted to little more than a nostalgia boner from various contributors from the website without being neither informative about the industry as a whole or very well made. remake this concept with a all-out detailed approach,or else it is kinda pointless.

  • @RDV333 sorry, but maybe if you have so much to say, then do it yourself.

  • @Zaziuma What a poor, poor criticism. The entire point of retroware is being on complete opposition to the approach done by the vast majority of reviewers on the Internet, that being the "clearly ignorant to what he is talking about" approach. they accomplish it very well in general, so I stated my compalints to this content.Quite simple process of dialogue, really.

  • @RDV333 I can see what you're saying, but this supposed is more a fun look back rather than an info-dump. I fully acknowledge this is a "nostalgia bonor" type of show (I'll have to remember that one) - which I totally love. However, I think if you look a little closer, you may also pick up some info here and there. Certainly check out part 2 to make sure.

But if that's not your cup of tea, that's ok too. I have more 16-Bit Gems and Way Games Work in the pipeline. :)

  • fokkin first. fuck yea.

  • wow!!

  • i wonder what game you will review as your 30th 16bit gem

to me thats the main "highlight" of your site, but you have other great shows too

  • Amazing show guys, really love it.
