Roo, I've been a big fan of your work since I got hooked on your 8-Bit gem retrospectives, and I must say that while the quality on those pieces were quite good, you seem to have once again raised the bar.
It's also nice to see someone getting as many viewers as you do actually responding and interacting with your audience.
u gotta admit u retorwaretv guys do some pretty creative stuff...like u try to make actual tv quality shows like i love the 80s...gotta a lot of respect for u guys for trying new stuff and not just doing what everyone else does
first game i ever made was pong. Actually "crazy pong" from a python class. Everytime the ball hits the paddle it spawned a new ball. I tried to make it random but it kept spawning behind the paddle. I used my own bitmaps and it was very fun.
Wow great video. It kinda like Irate Gamer History of Video Games, except the people here talk with passion, are much more talented, and it is an overall better produced video. On second thought it is nothing like the Irate Gamer's.
This was really good, but a big problem I had was that the lighting on the green (or blue) screen wasn't really that good and lead to a lot of background bleeding. It's more noticeable when the subject moves a more, especially Roo and his glasses.
Good show and concept, but even from a Retroware stand point you guys are probably my age. none of you where around (consciously)in the 70th's so this nostalgic interview style seems a little forced.
Don't really care and cant wait for the next one, but Roo asked for criticism. :P
@Hollander113 That's a fair criticism. But we're all late 20's to early 30's, so we're at least familiar with the time period - We all remember the Atari 2600, Star Wars, handheld LED games, and the like. Besides, Lance, John, Pat, Ian, Billy, and Jay are all hardcore collectors, so they have a lot of first-hand experience with even the oldest game consoles.
@ClanOfTheGrayWolf i'm 28 so the 70s aren't even in my memory banks, but since my family wasn't rich, nor were they up on current trends. i got what could be afforded. Atarti 2600? yup, had one into the early 90s. I still had a Comadore 64 until just 4 years ago (the comadore headquarters was 20 mins from me, which is now the hq for QVC in pottstown,pa.). if i was lucky i got a video game system 5-6 years after it came out (as long as it was replaced on the market by the next new one).
@ClanOfTheGrewWolf any possiblity that you can post a messeage on your chanel whenever a new one is out? This would be awesome because from what I see, this serise is great so far.
@IronBuddha80 That's being addressed right now - the site's moving to a dedicated server. So hopefully by tomorrow load times will be much better for all.
@RunTitan09 Nope, just this first part. You'll have to go to retrowaretv *dot* com for the 2nd part (out right now) and all future episodes. Though I'm sure I'll tweet/Facebook post about them when they come out.
Overall it's a good combination between G4's Icons and VH-1's I Love the x0's show.
I would have preferred a bit less of the Chucky Cheese info, less jokes, and more gaming info.
I also think it should have started with 1972, and not because it's my birth year either I swear, but because THAT was the true start of home gaming with Ralph Baer's Brown Box. You know.. the guy who Nolan Bushnell ripped off!
Poor Ralph. He's the true "Father of video gaming".
@videogameobsession This is just the pilot, so we're fine tuning and open to criticism. However, I will say that 1977 seemed to be the natural start point for the series, since the introduction of the Atari 2600 is seen by many at the start of "modern" video gaming. (and we'll hit that in part 3 ;) )
Good concept, but poor execution. I actually thought this would be a well structured and informative research dump that would make the viewer equate with distinct times and understand certain oddities of the videogames of today. However,it ammounted to little more than a nostalgia boner from various contributors from the website without being neither informative about the industry as a whole or very well made. remake this concept with a all-out detailed approach,or else it is kinda pointless.
@Zaziuma What a poor, poor criticism. The entire point of retroware is being on complete opposition to the approach done by the vast majority of reviewers on the Internet, that being the "clearly ignorant to what he is talking about" approach. they accomplish it very well in general, so I stated my compalints to this content.Quite simple process of dialogue, really.
@RDV333 I can see what you're saying, but this supposed is more a fun look back rather than an info-dump. I fully acknowledge this is a "nostalgia bonor" type of show (I'll have to remember that one) - which I totally love. However, I think if you look a little closer, you may also pick up some info here and there. Certainly check out part 2 to make sure.
But if that's not your cup of tea, that's ok too. I have more 16-Bit Gems and Way Games Work in the pipeline. :)
i think the commentary is awesome. i loved the retro tv ads too. this is a very well done episode.
