@zouli84 Her voice has changed simply because of age and strenuous use, not drugs and alcohol, which wouldn't particularly affect the vocal chords anyway. You can hear a progressive raspiness not only in Whitney's voice but of many other prominent singers as their careers continue. In her case it was vocal nodules, a problem that doesn't particularly go away without risky surgery. Learn about the voice (pun intended) before you criticise an incredible singer.

@bbukfan You are naive and mistaken on so many levels. First of all I'm talking about Witney's overall performance, not only her voice. I've seen live performances of her where she is so drunk and high that she doesn't have the actual physical strength to stand in front of the mic, she can't even remember the lyrics to her songs and she struggles, not to sing, but to make sounds come out of her. It's a shame for her, not for doing this to herself but for not being able to please her fans.

I'm not a "voice expert" and I don't have to be to know that vocal chords should be hydrated at all times. Alcohol is the worst dehydrator, caffeine as well and smoke is simply the best way to ruin your vocal chords. You may be right that strenuous use of vocal chords can damage them, but not on that level, and when you are a ....

Talk about strenuous use... She is actually 5 years younger than Whitney, and she is not the only one who "abuses" her voice that way. it may just be me but i don't understand the delay to end the song when she performs live. nothing against Whitney, I love her, but when I go to a concert, I don't stand there cheering endlessly, I go there to hear the music and applaud and cheer at the end of the song.
