Great vocal chops - operatic even - but in the end she fails to deploy them in a manner that would have created the tension-and-release arch that this song requires. Put another way, she is a bit all over the place in her octave-hopping and vocal arrangement and the end result is less compelling that it would have otherwise been. Less could have possibly been more in this case.
And while you are at it, don't have a heart attack if Sandi herself ends up not having an issue with my critique. Reason? Beyond spiritual aspirations she is a musician.

I think that is sad that someone had to bring up her marriage . Notice how she got blamed for it. No one said anything about her husband. He said they were thrown together as young kids in college. He admits his faults as much as her. It was a mutual agreement.. How many of us as Christians have sinned and fallen short ? I think she has redeemed herself in the Christian world and continues to love the Lord and sing praises. Let the Lord judge

This report shocked and saddened me. I wonder what Sandy would say to what was just written. The writer almost sounds like an angry ex-husband. If you really want peace of mind, joy......then tune into Gospel Songs Carrie Underwood, Rehema Marvanne (8 years old), Sandi Patty, etc. My wife is in a skilled Nursing Facility as a patient and a local church came tonight to sing to the residents. My wife is 70 and the youngest patient. Our president, Congressmen and women should visit these facilities to see how Medicare cuts could destroy these children of God, despite their age!! Great vocal chops - operatic even - but in the end she fails to deploy them in a manner that would have created the tension-and-release arch that this song requires. Put another way, she is a bit all over the place in her octave-hopping and vocal arrangement and the end result is less compelling that it would have otherwise been. Less could have possibly been more in this case.

However, in my humble opinion, the text of this iconic hymn lends credence to the "octave jumping around". This is an updated version of the original recorded 20 years prior (this 2004, original 1984), and to me, is more powerful. Again, my humble opinion. But, I agree that she would welcome the criticism! God bless!

I couldn't handle the desert, I'm weak. So I did 40 days in my room fasting half the week reading n asking for the kingdom and Spirit.

I used to think if I could sing like this, they couldn't make a hat BIG enough to fit me. I know Sandi sees it as a gift. I had her cd with this song years ago and wanted to come here and hear it again. I don't see how ANYONE can top her on this song. She is AMAZING. Just the BEST. I remember on this same cd she was talking about the different singing styles and deciding which one to adopt, and she was imitating Karen Carpenter and other singers. Pretty funny.

Crystal lewis has always been one of my favorites. but sandi patty is my favorite of all time. I haven't heard anybody sing How Great Thou Art as awesomely or powerfully as Sandi Patti. If you can have a buddhist come on here and say she sends chills down his spine from her singing this song, you know god is working in her life.
