FOR ALL THOSE WHO ARE GETTING "BACK UP FAILED". this is likely because you have an updated firmware. This only works if you have the "cupcake" firmware. google search to learn how to downgrade.

rooting will only give you root access, if you flash a rom (ex. cyanogen), then you will have to reenter sign-in data

that's because you are not on the right Firmware, you need to be on firmware 1.5 if you are on 1.6 or other besides 1.5 it will not work.

ur way off gettin a data plan... cuz if u dont, trust, me u wil get lsot in translation following all the tutorials out ther.. first before u root,(if without data plan) u will have to download files such as ADB, apk then configure manually the APN setting for ur no-data plan G1 to activate the Wifi, then u can start the process of rooting...trust me, its not that hard if u follow the process well, but still very very stressful, cuz of the many different types of phones, Firmware, build number

well, rooting my phone I can get multitouch in my internet browser and is faster that the stock one, I can change themes without using the dxtop, ahome or any app .

Im currrently running the Cyanogen firmware 1.6 donut 4.1.9999 and is running really smooth and faster than the stock firmware

and the best part I can install app into my sd card, I have 127 app installed on my sd card, I created a partition on my sd card of 1GB!!!

and I have 35 Mb available space on my phone so

thats why I rooted =)
