I was in Cuba a few years ago and they had '50s Cadillac's over there with old Toyota diesel engines in them. An insult if you ask me. At least this V8 is all GM.
Beautiful ride,I own a Mercedes diesel and I would have to agree that a nice full size ride getting 30mpg is an awesome thing.I never knew some Caddies had diesels.I've never heard such a quiet diesel.Does it have turbo?
Nice car, motor sounds great! I'm in the process of fixing up a "79 toronado that has been in my family since '84. I like your interior, a little more plush than the Toro. I was getting around 27 mpg last year when I drove it around a little, but the engine was getting tired with 130,000 on the clock. So I'm rebuilding it this winter. I was amused by how many young guys came up to me asking what kind of diesel installed into the car, then I had the fun of giving them the olds diesel story.
beautiful car, what block is it the D or DX? i've got an 81 with dx rebuilt at 80k miles and now sitting about 130k miles daily driver and my only car at the moment but she rides and runs like a dream i cant wait to roll that odometer though
@aftoyboy If there is a Goodwrench engine is it DX - block. I have a D-block in my Cadillac Seville. Always starts and runs fine, of course, after a complete overhaul with ARP bolts, etc.
@cadillac350diesel And to be honest it's really nice to see these old cars still on the road they may not be power houses but it's that fact that having a caddy with a diesel is what turns heads, people ask me about my car ALL the time "hey man is that a diesel?" sure is and i wouldn't trade it for the world either. although having another vehicle would be nice just in case.
@cadillac350diesel i'd love to get my hands on a diesel powered truck the 6.2 or 6.5 turbo charged, i plan on going to diesel school soon and i would like something to tinker around with. otherwise gas would do, i love the 78-87 model year GM trucks i had an 85 with the 454 and manual trans, that thing was fast but i had to sell along with atv I lost my job and i'm having a boy!! what perfect timing right? lol
The GM goodwrench motor is great thats what replaced the 350 diesel when it went bad and the 4.1 the goodwrench motors are bullet proof because all the flaws are gone !!
Nice car! I have a 1980 Cadillac Seville 5.7 Diesel. In daily use. Mine is with the D-block and Poppe nozzles. 105 HP is little short in a mountain country like Norway where 350 diesel are underpowered and have to work 100% to not fall behind .. Otherwise, this is like a dream to drive with good fuel economy
That is a real dinosaurus you have there. 5,7 l and only a few bhp ? Around that time we had diesel engines here in Europe, only 2,5 l, more torque, more mpg and good for at least 500 000 miles.
@araneus1970 : This Cadillac weighs close to 2 tons. your euro oil burners weighed half of that. Yes GM fed up, but If they had set this engine up properly it could have made positive history. This car gets 30 mpg + and that is a feat in itself. BTW If i had to choose which car I would be in an accident with? It would be that tank. I'd bet the farm it would survive better in a crash any day.
@VitaminC440 I had a 1982 Coupe DeVille as my first car when I was 16, not a diesel but it wrecked it within 8 months. Slick road, couldn't stop and just kept sliding. My car was totaled but only in value, the van I hit was totaled in every way. I went to the junk yard and spent $100 bucks and I was done fixing my car, the other people went car shopping for a new car. The van was at a dead stop I hit them at 40+ MPH, give me a Cadillac any day of the week, size matters!
thats not true what kpj is talkin about how come my 4.1 went only 38,000 miles and blew head gaskets all kinds of shit but my 84 diesel went 230,000 miles? take that........
Quite impressive, did you do roller rockers? Convert to timing gears? Almost sounds like the timing is retarded a little. Would like to see a vid of it taking off or accelerating past the camera.
