Arsis doesn't show his talents that crazy. Go watch the Goratory and Pillory videos. His footwork IS amazing. After watching those, if you still think that he isn't that fast or doesn't have amazing footwork, then you really aren't a musician, and don't know what your listening to.
There just nothing special in him really. Well i dont see it yet. Hes just a normal Death Metal drummer. I dont see anything special in Death Metal drummers any more as everythings been done really.But this guys only fast aswell. With Koillias he has his own foot Technique which is insane. Where he swivels his feet from left to right. And he can get an insane amount of speed on the bass drum by doing this. Even when he does it on one bass drum he sounds like hes doing 2.
If you've seen his Goratory and Pillory work, and you understand drums technically, then you would know how hard and how technical the stuff that he plays is. Putting my friend bias aside, and speaking from a PURELY TECHNICAL standpoint Darren is more technical and more diverse. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. You can quantize technique, notes hit, strokes, combinations, footwork, blasts, crossovers, degrees of difficulty. And when you analyze those factors, Derek doesn't hold a candle. Maybe you like his style better, or have seen more, but the fact remains the same. Darren, from a technical and pure skill standpoint, is a better drummer.
But I havent heard or seen him do something really technical only balsts etc. Its the same with Derek, i havent seen him do alot of technical stuff, only different style. Maybe I just need more of a listen from Darren. but its hard when you listen to him because all he does is blast etc. Just a generic typical Death metal drummer. Ive seen Derek do more stuff. I never use the swivel technique, its pretty hard to get it going. I rather just using the normal technique. But also ive never seen any other drummer to do the technique tbh only Koillias. But he can get a lot of speed on it. Hes also an amazing drummer.

Arsis doesn't show his talents that crazy. Go watch the Goratory and Pillory videos. His footwork IS amazing. After watching those, if you still think that he isn't that fast or doesn't have amazing footwork, then you really aren't a musician, and don't know what your listening to.

There just nothing special in him really. Well i dont see it yet. Hes just a normal Death Metal drummer. I dont see anything special in Death Metal drummers any more as everythings been done really.But this guys only fast aswell. With Koillias he has his own foot Technique which is insane. Where he swivels his feet from left to right. And he can get an insane amount of speed on the bass drum by doing this. Even when he does it on one bass drum he sounds like hes doing 2.

If you've seen his Goratory and Pillory work, and you understand drums technically, then you would know how hard and how technical the stuff that he plays is. It's a fact that what he plays is harder and more technical than Derek Roddy, it's not opinion. I don't know why you think Derek is better or more dynamic, he's not. From analyzing technique and the actual licks themselves, it is more than blatant that Darren is a better drummer, plays more technical and complex stuff.

I do understand drums technically. And I know how hard the stuff is. I know what he is doing is hard. But I listen to Goratory, I dont hear anything technical. Putting my friend bias aside, and speaking from a PURELY TECHNICAL standpoint Darren is more technical and more diverse. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. You can quantize technique, notes hit, strokes, combinations, footwork, blasts, crossovers, degrees of difficulty. And when you analyze those factors, Derek doesn't hold a candle. Maybe you like his style better, or have seen more, but the fact remains the same. Darren, from a technical and pure skill standpoint, is a better drummer.

Im listening to Goratory now.....and tbh I dont hear anything amazingly good. Just blasting and generic death metal beats and some fast drum fills. So You dont have proof that hes better. Ive seen Derek play amazing stuff and more styles. Maybe its because that you havent listened to enough of Dereks stuff like try Hate Eternals album I,Monarch or watch some of his video. but tbh I think both drummers are equal. The thing is, i rather the jazz style when watching or playing drums now. Before I was amazed by Death Metal drummer. But now i get very bored of them, I dont seen anything special really. Ive seen Derek play more styles. Also Derek has had alot more experience and has been in many big bands. Its just my opinion.But anyway you cant really go round saying this drummers better than that drummer.Its not what drumming about their both amazing in their own way.I know im contradicting myself too lol .

I agree. And I agree that maybe you have seen Derek do more. However, I don't understand how after watching Goratory and Pillory that all you think that he does is blasts and whatnot. If you watch those videos, and that is all you come away with, then you aren't an experienced musician in that genre. Go make any very experienced drum teacher those videos, like Mangini, and they could speak volumes about it. I just don't think that you understand what you are seeing.

yo bro....the swivel technique is nothing...i use it to get more speed because it works.....every drummer uses that technique to get really fast speeds....kollias just can do it so fast his one foot sounds like too....i love that sound

I never use the swivel technique, its pretty hard to get it going. I rather just using the normal technique. But also ive never seen any other drummer to do the technique tbh only Koillias. But he can get a lot of speed on it. Hes also an amazing drummer.

If you listen to the song Victorious Reign on the Hate Eternal album theres this bit where hes blasting on one snare, keeping a beat with the hi-hat and other snare, matching his foot with the blast and then matching the other foot with the riff. its insane.

That video was shot by my roommate, in my roommate's band practice studio. I edited his practice, made some videos of it, uploaded it and put music to the end. So, yes, I know him. I also did room and mic setup and recorded Darren for the band, "Skinned" on their latest album.
