In Germany we got a lot of social welfare but the problems here in Berlin still exists. So it not only about a lack of money. Parents have often no discipline, they aren't brought up that school is something important or worthfull. And their kids are brought up in the same way. The government has to do everything it can so that this kids will finish their highschool, by free lunches at school and afternoon assistance for homework to break the cycle... and it has to be enforeced.

They get someone to give them a work visa and they come here with 1 or 2 grand in their pocket and nothing else. They sit down with their kids and spend HOURS doing homework and follow the laws. The real problem with the project buildings is there is one entrance, so the controlling gang controls the entrance. Imagine every day , you have to walk by them to get into your house.
One of the problems with the Great Society with all of its good intentions was Public Housing. It lumped a lot of Low Income people together living in bad neighborhoods with bad schools and high Crime Rates. And it contributed to creating generations of Poverty in America.

They both graduated high school and with student loans, Pell grants and part time work they went to college and now have good jobs. Why can't these kids do the same? They can get loans and grants too.

The south side of Chicago and most of the housing projects there are worse than Detroit. Although the worst ones in Chicago are mostly gone. Detroit used to have a few, but they were nothing like Chicagos worst projects. There are hardly any housing projects in Detroit. Detroit's main problems are abandoned and burned out buildings, and extreme poverty. Detroit is a violent city though I grew up here. The crime rate in detroit is higher.
I have to disagree with you on that point. I was born and raised on Chicago's Southside (South Shore) and I have relatives in Detroit and visit the city frequently. Yes Robert Taylor,Ida B. Wells,Harold Ickies and Stateway Gardens were rough areas but it's unfair to label the whole South Side as being worse than Detroit.
But on the other hand Chicago is a much larger city which also has large areas with low crime rates which helps to balance out the overall crime rate. I've been to Chicago many times because I have relatives there. The worst parts of chicago are much worse than the worst parts of Detroit .
So, again blacks are concentrated in housing that we white people must pay for. At least the projects kept the low life people away from decent hard working people. It is funny how some people keep making up excuses for all the failures of blacks-always white peoples' fault.

Not all blacks that came up from the south lived in the projects. My grandparents left Mississippi around 1910 and they progressively moved up and provided for all of their children and lived in big houses on the southside. It all depends on the individual, don't generalize those hard working people who came from the south.

In Germany we got a lot of social welfare but the problems here in Berlin still exists. So it not only about a lack of money. Parents have often no discipline, they aren't brought up that school is something important or worthfull. And their kids are brought up in the same way. The government has to do everything it can so that this kids will finish their highschool, by free lunches at school and afternoon assistance for homework to break the cycle... and it has to be enforeced.

They get someone to give them a work visa and they come here with 1 or 2 grand in their pocket and nothing else. They sit down with their kids and spend HOURS doing homework and follow the laws. The south side of Chicago and most of the housing projects there are worse than Detroit. Although the worst ones in Chicago are mostly gone. Detroit used to have a few, but they were nothing like Chicagos worst projects. There are hardly any housing projects in Detroit. Detroit's main problems are abandoned and burned out buildings, and extreme poverty. Detroit is a violent city though I grew up here. The crime rate in detroit is higher.

while people in the projects do have to work harder to live a better life, you have to naive or just ignorant to believe the government and many white people (not all) had nothing to do with the widespread use of drugs in many black communities.

Not all blacks that came up from the south lived in the projects. My grandparents left Mississippi around 1910 and they progressively moved up and provided for all of their children and lived in big houses on the southside. It all depends on the individual, don't generalize those hard working people who came from the south.
