Its a Hebrew cover for I bombed Korea (by cake). You can find the original on youtube. It has the same theme. Being a confused tiny soldier in a big war. Shooting without really knowing why, or who gets killed.
According to Robert Fisk in his book "The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East", pp.484,488–489, Israeli defence minister at that time Ariel Sharon and Chief of Staff Rafael Eitan met with the Lebanese Phalangist militia units, inviting them to enter the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps and telling them the PLO fighters were responsible for the assassination of their leader Bashir Gemayel. This is the core information that was neglected/distorted in this movie.
@supar2100 I'm Jewish and I know a lot of Zionists. I have yet to meet a Zionist who invokes the past suffering of my people as a justification for inflicting suffering on others.
@tylerdeath13 Iagree with you, that we do a little the peace in Israeli, they are not every Zionists, some people simply want to live in peace in the country or they were born!
@Gramra what Folman did was taking a bunch of real events (that didn't necessarily take place in that particular war) and fringing them. in that case it was one of several times an Israeli plane fired at Israeli soldiers.
This IDF F4 bombing of an Israeli convoy took place in 1982 during the war - the pilot thought he was attacking Syrian convoy. A sad mistake, 26 IDF soldiers were killed. I knew a guy from there who still suffers from post trauma (2011)
I want to see is tears shed for the 100,000thousand Lebanese Christians, raped, muredered & maimed by Palestinians & Muslims that provoked the killing of 600 Palestinians Sabra & Shatilla. But remember, in the city of Demur alone, 10,000 Christian civilians were murdered by Palestinians. I want to see tears shed for those victims & thousands of Israeli civilian victims of Palestinian terror. Palestinians never apologize for murdering & maiming civilians. They don't merit sympathy, but scorn.
Jews also do not shed tears for dead Christians, remember that. They gleefully cheer at the fact that they managed to get the Mooslums and Christians cut each others throat in Lebanon from 1975 to 1989 and beyond.
@Brazilfilms09able Well, 'we' christians have not always been the finest people around... Do you even know about the horrible massacres the christian crusaders perpetrated? And what about the forceful conversion of hundreds of Russ people who were comfortable with their religion. My point here is, there is stupid, mean or even evil people in EVERY religion and all throughout the world.
Keep in Mind that there is no such thing, as Evil People, we all have this potential in us, just like the one for Greatness, for the Good.
Also every offender in this conflict is a victim as well. In war people do not only commit things, but war does things with people, thats why there should be no WE Christians, or WE Muslims, or WE Jews, or suchlike, just WE Humans.
Do you go around posting the same shit on every single youtube video that has clips from this movie? Can you stop that please? Sick of seeing the same thing copy-pasta'd everywhere.

This scene makes no sense. It makes the Israeli military look like a mob of college frats or something at a party. The Israeli military is highly trained and very professional. You can say what you like politically, but the Israel Defense Forces are respectable, decent people on the battlefield. I respect this film, but it shows a very scewed, over simplified version of what happened. Israel invaded Lebanon to route palestinian militants. Lebanese factions developed and a bloody war ensued.
I think you'll find that all military forces act like this when at war, to some extent. It's impossible to be "respectable and decent" on the battlefield - that's not the job of the soldier. Lives become cheap and dispensable in a war zone. Look at the U.S.! The largest, most well-trained force on the planet, and still responsible for Abu Ghraib and My Lai. It's not their fault, they're acting just like they're supposed to, sadly.
Saying they are very well trained is a very subjective view, if u put a bunch of 20 year old etc.. in the middle of another country and make them wait with nothing to do they find ways of entertaining themselves
It is a personal and highly subjective reflection over a few men's experience in the Lebanon War. It's not meant to show "This is what the Israel Army did" or "This is what the phalangists did". It's just "This is what I experienced and how I felt when I was there."
What I think you don't understand about this scene is that it mixes real experiences with surreal imagery on purpose.
Do some people not understand what Waltz with Bashir the film is saying about war.
You know Harry Patch, the last WW1 veteran in Britain died recently... after 2 world wars and I agree with him when he said that WAR IS NOTHING BUT ORGANISED MURDER
@CrazyBean86 Noone likes war and what remains in its aftermath, however, to stand by and watch as innocents are slaughtered by dictators and ruthless monsters is even worse, noone wants another U.N. We have to realize that war is sometimes nessesary to maintain peace, though they seem to contradict they can can go hand in hand under certain circumstances. They can bring peace, if it was not for world war two the Nazi regime would still be in power, resulting in many innocent deaths.
Seriously! I’ve seen some soldiers commenting on this movie and they honestly think that this film is glorifying war as a defense of their nation. Frickin’ fools ... does that scene with the orange-red car being chased not make it obvious enough?
(3) We go to college, join some bullshit activist group and believe we're making a difference by holding protests and empty promises and threats. (4) We go with the flow and join in on the violence and use those means to manipulate the nieve(you) into getting what we want. "They give the name peace to the desolation they leave behind" What are you trying to tell me? If you don't like me or what i stand for why didn't you throw in "Auferre trucidare rapere falsis nominibus imperium" which means "under false authority they rob, slaughter, and plunder"
Thats what most people think. They hang on every word the liberal media shoves down their throat. If you haven't seen a battlefield, you don't understand why I do what I do, and you never will

"If you haven't seen a battlefield, you don't understand why I do what I do, and you never will"
Well, I don't think that I have to experience it personally just to have an opinion on the matter.
I have yet to see a war that was constructive, I have yet to see violence that doesn't generate more future violence and hatred, and I really don't think that armies put soldiers to go through all those years of training in order for them to become caring babysitters.

Common people don't want war.
It is the leaders who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag people along.
Whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.
Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.
Simply tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism
and exposing the country to danger.
