worst costume director OF ALL TIME and thats saying something. Hollywood could screw up an anvil if given the chance. The novel was really a good read, coulda been a epic movie to remember with just a bit more professionalism and effort from the director and producers.

If I'm not wrong, during the time of the movie portrayed here, the peak of personal defense for the vikings were chainmail and the vest. there was no metal armour yet and also they all seem to wear diff armour from diff eras in history. Yes I must admit I thought it was filmed in Norway too. I work in Norway and I couldnt tell the difference. But it is indeed filmed in British Columbia. Its a great film and I love the blend of British,Irish and Scandinavian actors. They portray the Vikings with the real sense of stoic pride the Vikings and Celts had.

The Norsemen had their own styles of armour, weaponry and clothing borrowed from designs from the places they explored and settled. This is obvious from archeological finds especially those in the North, Jorvik and Orkney of the UK aswell.

I some of the assumptions are incorrect. The book placed the time around the 10th century. The Byzantine Empire was well established and close to its prime. They would have access Roman based weaponry and anything else they could plunder. these Northmen were true explorers and reached many lands long before European "conquerers."

ye, the most of armour vikings really used was only cloth and leather, since they didnt have tke knowledge nor the resources to make proper armor, and why vikings is described to use a helm with two horn doesnt i understand, since they have only found one helmet with two horns. Armor was very expensive. Even in late medieval Europe, pieces of armor were expensive and often given from Father to son over Generations.
So if some early medieval wikings "liberated" some foreign armor, why not wear it even if its old?

@deionc The vikings are fighting an ancient enemy to the nordic people.. the vikings are not sure what they, but i read somewhere that they are Neanderthal living in caves / under the ground. So they are not demons or Bear/human hybrids :)

@ozrtrasaken Wasn't uncommon for them to take trophies from their kills. They often took their swords, axes or helms. Shields were taken too, if it was made from something other than wood, since shields perished quickly.

I find this culture not so different from mine (CELTIC), i know we have relations in some way. Is his B.C, because I'm hoping to go there this summer, I moved to Edmonton, and it'll be my first trip there, but I still think Britain has lush lands people don't see the true beauty of the U.K Shame :(

I know your being nice but the English were not Celts, they were Saxons, it's more likely that the Norse King met with a Welsh King when the Celts were spread out all over the British Isles, until the Romans came and then the English settled near Kent, from Saxony Germany.

Haha, sometimes I couldnt even understand what they were saying.. And I'm from Norway :p Ppl claim 2 know so freakin' much about vikings.. for one,They were skilled navigators, so they knew were they were for the most of the time. 2. Many of the berzerkers didnt eat these mushrooms, many of them were just downright crazy. It was considered an honor to die in battle. The reason I know this is because Norway is filled with viking museums and stuff like that..

They talk mostly on swedish I think....I'm swedish and I understand sometimes what they are sayin...but they have a mixture of icelandic and norwegian accent somtimes, but ofcourse it's an norse language so their words and accents are different than any scandinavian languages we have today... wierd that they don't have any danish accent though, when they are in denmark =S

should read the book. "Buliwyf" actually cuts off one of the "wendol's" arms and hangs it in the rafters of a building. I'm not sure which story came first, but "Eaters of the Dead" is apparently a complete retelling of this arab guys manuscript about his adventure.

Which, historically, the Northmen would have used, having scavenged armor, and served in the armies of the Roman Emperors both West and East (Byzantine). The morion, or "Conquistador" helmets were more angular, lacked a faceguard, and were actually used more by the English. Get your claims straight.

Beautiful visual landscapes Countryside of Scandanivia where the 13th Warrior was filmed. Moving scene of the young child found in the field & rescued. Great movie throughout & awesome Viking Warrior's Beowulf & his men were: there's a nice photo shot of them sitting around a large table discussing how they will go about this battle of rescuing this ghost town villiage. Pretty cool...'the red hair Viking warrior he plays Marcus in the Underworld: Evolution movie, I like him/all of them!!

Yes I must admit I thought it was filmed in Norway too. I work in Norway and I couldnt tell the difference. But it is indeed filmed in British Columbia. Its a great film and I love the blend of British,Irish and Scandinavian actors. They portray the Vikings with the real sense of stoic pride the Vikings and Celts had.

My goodness I saw NORWAY's on the edge cliffs & peopel actually hiking on those monsteriuos beautiful Mountians, Wow! The Norsemen had their own styles of armour, weaponry and clothing borrowed from designs from the places they explored and settled. This is obvious from archeological finds especially those in the North, Jorvik and Orkney of the UK aswell.
One thing is their swords were passed down from generation to such and they werent just lumps of heavy metal. These people had great skills. Best time in History =) love the film too

I some of the assumptions are incorrect. The book placed the time around the 10th century. The Byzantine Empire was well established and close to its prime. They would have access Roman based weaponry and anything else they could plunder. these Northmen were true explorers and reached many lands long before European "conquerers."

ye, the most of armour vikings really used was only cloth and leather, since they didnt have tke knowledge nor the resources to make proper armor, and why vikings is described to use a helm with two horn doesnt i understand, since they have only found one helmet with two horns. No more, and they think it wasnt used in wars but in cermonies.
