  • mmm...great movie, althought i never really understood if the brunette chick was the wife or daughter of the old king :L, please someone answer my wondering!

  • @lalundesole Her daughter...

  • @mavin21. Lmao, so true.

  • Buliwyf is Ulfric Stormcloak. it all makes sense now!!!!!!!!!

  • @straight69in

no hes arthas from wacraft 3

or better to say, arthas is buliwyf

    check it:

    youtube> warcraft 3 human ending

  • Did you people know that Vladimir Kulich (the guy who plays Buliwyf, the leader of the warriors) is voice-acting in Skyrim?

  • Okay guys... There is something AWESOME a LOT of you might not know... but at 2:52, does it not remind you of anything?? IT'S ARTHAS!!! And doesn't that scene remind you of something?? WHEN HE KILLS HIS DAD!! Wow I'm so good...

  • This show got me interested in history and comparison between European and Oriental Armies..

  • sigh..remember back in the day people just watched movies for the entertainment and didn"t act like amatuer historians

  • "You couldn't keep a cow out of this place." LOL

  • that is a Thracian style helment from Thrace, I suppose, the place they took off to the north, was somewhere along the danube in Thrace, so he probably got it there...

  • gladiators were long gone during the time of the Vikings. But Vikings traveled the great rivers of Germany and France deep into Europe. It was probably bought in trade.

  • @Chaxar probably the spoils of war viking weren't known for there merchants.

  • @BennoBlue They had a trading empire that spanned eurasia. They aren't known as merchants anymore, because that's not what the cartoons show us.

  • @Chaxar

They also made it into Iberia, Anatolia, and Arabia.

  • @gmaker0 Well at least there's no horned helmets like there are in most movies with vikings.

  • @zz13x Thank goodness...

  • plus its genetically impossible for their to b a ginger viking as it is caused by a small cell mutation that is only found in people of celtic decent

i kno it sounds crazy but its not a joke this is genuine scientific research

  • @TheDandinio i know. unless he was an irish slave reared by them after being taken in one of our conquests lol.

  • @TheDandinio some peoples in the middle east have too i.e. syrians and Iranians.:D

  • @TheDandinio your wrong, germanics can have ginger hair

  • @TheDandinio

To be a "viking" is an occupation. That's where the phrase "to go on a viking" comes from. There were vikings from other cultures in Europe, too.

  • @Vovk3 Wrong. Vikingr in the old term meant "sailing warrior, by the call of Tyr". This is why Vikingr in Icelandic Norse was also spelled Vykingr. Vikingr were Scandinavics purely.

  • ohh please!!! stop itguys/gays and just watch the movie then you can discuss it after ok? :P....

  • I Love Dem Dayz, You Cudd Be The Most Ugliest Guy Ever, As Long As Your Nice With A Sword Yu Get Laid!! XD

  • 4:17 fitted polo neck dress with eyelet details in the back and cuffs, along with a 19th century pinafore!?! By Odin's breath, what was the 10th century tailor thinking about?

  • I like how that guy gave Ibn a sword without asking him like: "Oh, have you had any experience with this, can you use this without cutting yourself?"

Instead he´s kinda like: "Take this and shut up!" :)

  • ....Guys guys stop the arguming, watch the movie and leave a comment, stop bitching about this or that, geez that past is the past,it can repeat itself......

  • The helmets are placed in this movie, most likely to symbolize their travels.. to show that they have been all over, maybe traded for this armor, even killed for it, and one as a trophy.. dont be so narrow minded

  • @berett315 Another thing with the armor, is that many of the Germanic barbarians who fought the late Roman empire were from Scandinavia. The Goths and Lombards for example. So maybe one of the Vikings' ancestors brought the helmet back from rampaging through late Roman Europe.

  • WTF? They have gladiator armours.. FAIL

  • I think that the part from 2:54 to 2:59 is the only time in this movie when you see all 13 warriors in the same frame.

  • So the inside of that crappy hut looked like this???

Compare that to the Arabs places of the same era

  • @aey20 its a settlement you stupid fuck.. once again your dimwhitted ignorance makes me wanna break your neck.. you tell me this.. who invented computers? who invented democracy? who invented all the beautiful sights such as the eiffel tower, painted the mona lisa, hell.. who invented the cars your greaseball ass taxi driver brother drives?? go charm a snake you piece of shit sand nigger

  • @berett315 At this point in history

Arab had baths so people could stay clean - Europeans didn't

Arabs were continuing with the studys of the Greeks - Europeans were in the "dark ages"

Arabs expanded from Arabia to Spain in the west and Persia in the east - Europe was divided and weak

Learn your history, there is a reason why you need arab oil EVERYDAY - we need nothing from you

    Arab Power

  • @aey20 Bull shit, where did you greaseballs get the idea of the bath houses?? GREEKS! what color were greeks.. or are you colorblind? and you tell me this, why are my brothers over there fighting to make you and your 3rd world country free if yall dont need anything from us?? and actually , we have great oil reserves here in the US, but for some reason higher powers feel its necessary for now to drain up your land instead, because our land is beautiful, your land is desert wasteland.. argue that

  • @berett315 : hahah, wow the morron think he s living his american dream, camera surveillance every where ,treated like bitches all around the states ,and by the way ,you re used as goim for the zionist ,they used ur idiot fat ass to fight against us ,and sooner they ll lead the world and they ll destroy u imbecile, don t think pple are not aware of what s happening there in the states ,an advice stop watchin tv, the zionist are playing like puppets , ,,so now ur turn ,argue ;o)

  • @berett315

Lets keep the prejudice down to a minimum. If you're claiming that the greeks are european as in anglo-saxon then you're dead wrong. They're mediterranean of balkan extraction like bosnians serbians, and bulgarians. And for the record while greeks and romans invented public baths, it was the Turks that revolutionized it with their "hammam" turkish bath concept. Europeans later re-used the Turkish hammam idea during the renaissance.

  • I think there are a couple of mistakes in this movie, I always thought that Vikings were forces of nature and didn't wear an armor, but these guys are equipped like roman soldiers, not to mantion the guy wearing a gladiator like helmet, well it's a movie... Too bad the book was so good.

  • @charly5rsf Well that can be forgiven. The roman empire had fallen yes, but even at such a time Roman style spatha were used by cavalrymen, so it's not a far jump for people to still use Roman style helmets.

  • I think there are a couple of mistakes in this movie, I always thought that Vikings were force of nature and didn't wear an armor, but these guys are equipped like roman soldiers, not to mantion the guy wearing a gladiator like helmet, well it's a movie...

  • messanger boy...xaxaxaxaxaax thats a boy ?!?! :DD

  • 2:45 He looks so much like Arthas..

  • Ahahahahaha....As if gladiator helmet wasn't enough, another of 'em is wearing spanish helmet from 16th century....they really screwed it...

  • And why the fuck is one of 'em wearing roman gladiator helmet...I mean c'mon :D

  • worst costume director OF ALL TIME and thats saying something. Hollywood could screw up an anvil if given the chance. The novel was really a good read, coulda been a epic movie to remember with just a bit more professionalism and effort from the director and producers.

  • @hemrud It's bad yes but not the worst.

The Norseman (1978) is the worst one I've seen.

  • dude the red head is wearing a fucking kilt. fuck yeah irish viking!!!

  • @mattp9216 scottish viking! the irish see the kilt as a joke

  • @crackerHero irish wore kilts 2

  • @crackerHero Kilts have a long history in Ireland as well as Scotland.

  • @PalerLaze true but look up the funny song "Donald wheres your trousers" its an irish drinkin ballade thats making fun of kilts

  • Where's Techno Viking!?!?

  • no offence but 1:00-1:17 sounds like WoW on the humans settlement lol

  • Iceland and norway is known for Viking i live on Iceland and i know some Viking story from this town i live in and few months ago there where found two skelitons one whit sword and other whit shield, :D

  • There were ties between the Vikings and greek "mythology",the Vikings might have some connection to Asia Minor through trade.

  • See, here's another smart bit of subtle screenplay: at the beginning, Edthgo the ranger reports an incoming rider and both the archers (the master and his boy apprentice) dismount and shoot to the cover of oblique flanks.

Also, "Couldn't keep a cow out of this place", "Be in the mist", and "I don't want to build a fence; I'm not a farmer" are some of the many reasons I'd love to get my hands on an official, accurate script of this movie. Plus, that warhammer is boss, yo.

  • If a boy like that one was injured from torture like that I'd find the asshole who did it and beat some since into them and knock them cold blood to the floor.... yet this is a great movie ^_^

  • THOR....

  • What a swell movie.

  • haaaaaaaaaaa 4:53 the thing who did it was the predator lolol

  • WHERE IS THE LAMENTATION OF THE WOMEN? TO HEAR THE LAMENTATION OF THE WOMEN IS BEST IN LIFE, AND I DO NOT YET HEAR THEM.

  • How come they all wear different armour. If I'm not wrong, during the time of the movie portrayed here, the peak of personal defense for the vikings were chainmail and the vest. there was no metal armour yet and also they all seem to wear diff armour from diff eras in history. Wuh??? but still, this is a kick ass movie.

  • @greenious

Armor was very expensive. Even in late medieval Europe, pieces of armor were expensive and often given from Father to son over Generations.

So if some early medieval wikings "liberated" some foreign armor, why not wear it even if its old?

  • @greenious i said the same. but i realised that they were travelers.. they pick up from here n there

  • so what exactly are they fighting? what people are they fighting? where are they from? why are they so different from the vikings???

  • @deionc The vikings are fighting an ancient enemy to the nordic people.. the vikings are not sure what they, but i read somewhere that they are Neanderthal living in caves / under the ground. So they are not demons or Bear/human hybrids :)

  • Could this be set in Scotland? The North and West (Hebridies etc) were all part of the Viking empire at that time so it is a possibility

  • when i die i wouldn't mind going to valhalla, but for that i'd have to die a warriors death, not so easy this day and age

  • Vikings = pwn everything in there time.

  • There is only one God and Muhammed is is Prophet

  • This film was shut right here in Beautiful British Columbia.Actually 75% of all Hollywood movies gets made in Vancouver or other parts of B.C.

  • Iam proud to be arab :D

  • @gmaker0 maybe he killed an gladiator and took he's helmet :)

  • @ozrtrasaken but the roman culture didnt exist at that time any longer

  • @ozrtrasaken Wasn't uncommon for them to take trophies from their kills. They often took their swords, axes or helms. Shields were taken too, if it was made from something other than wood, since shields perished quickly.

  • Hail to Odin, may the Valkyries carry me to Valhal when I die so I can be with some of the greatest warriors, my ancestors in the afterlife!

I am proud to be a desendant of the Vikings!

  • Proud of the norse culture.

    Greetings from Oslo :)

  • @JinZanmato have they reopen Gardemon yet?

  • @zumwane Not yet. Have to see this trough next week.

  • 'Red Snake' or 'Röde Orm' in its English translation is called 'The Long Ships', I'm reading it at the moment.

  • I find this culture not so different from mine (CELTIC), i know we have relations in some way. Is his B.C, because I'm hoping to go there this summer, I moved to Edmonton, and it'll be my first trip there, but I still think Britain has lush lands people don't see the true beauty of the U.K Shame :(

  • @GilliusThunderFart7

Mutch of the language was the same, I read in a old story book that the king of the norsemen could speak with the english(celtic) king without problems.

    Love celtic culture...

    Greedings from Norway

  • I know your being nice but the English were not Celts, they were Saxons, it's more likely that the Norse King met with a Welsh King when the Celts were spread out all over the British Isles, until the Romans came and then the English settled near Kent, from Saxony Germany.

    Love the Norse culture

    Greetings from Cymru (Wales)

    Cymru Am Byth!!

  • hahahahaha the actor who plays Ruthgar is a famous swedish actor named Sven Wollter XD it's hilarious to see him in such a role XD XD

  • plate armour?? That kind of armour wasnt available in the 10th century. Chainmail and lamellar were the common armours

  • Haha, sometimes I couldnt even understand what they were saying.. And I'm from Norway :p Ppl claim 2 know so freakin' much about vikings.. for one,They were skilled navigators, so they knew were they were for the most of the time. 2. Many of the berzerkers didnt eat these mushrooms, many of them were just downright crazy. It was considered an honor to die in battle. The reason I know this is because Norway is filled with viking museums and stuff like that..

  • i already knew all what u just said

  • @slikkmegiskrukken Hedrad och Hyllad varde Norden och Hennes Krigare =) They have mixed the language between Swedish and Norweigen and sometimes something random.

  • About berserkers i heard that they drunk lots of slavic alcohol(similar to vodka) and that's why they where so crazy and durable but these are only rumors. if i'm wrong, enlighten me please;)

  • Comment removed

  • @Raz0rbabe i wrote "similar to vodka" meaning that it could have give the same effect, increased aggresion and endurance to pain, it didn't have to be vodka itself but muchrooms theory is ideed inetersting and probable ;)

  • @BadBoy1986PL It's a lot of myth's and legend's about Vladimir The Great of Kiev He was defenetly a Vajarien Tzar/king of Rurik dynasti. One legend when he make the Ortodox Church to state religion. He alsow gived reson why= -I couldent take Juich ore Islam religion becourse they forbitten alkohol but the north people must have alkohol. And thise information exist in old Kiev kronika. With honey you can get maybee as high as 28% Alkohol. Ineresting to in lingvestik in North Mjod=Honey
  • Thanx for this useful ifnormation:) . I'll rely on it in my further exploits about vikings;)

  • @slikkmegiskrukken dont forget the berzerkers were naked, and its an honor to die in battle cause if im right and if i remember right it earned your place in valhalla....

  • @slikkmegiskrukken I am Greek and didn't get any of the greek in the beggining!! hahahahahahahahaha....Second , I've watched my ancestors history and ways being twisted in movies! Welcome to the club!! hahahahahahahahahahahhaha

  • @slikkmegiskrukken I truly envy you!! I wanna see real viking artifacts!

  • @slikkmegiskrukken I'd like to visit sometime, my girl is swedish she has told me alot about them haha more than the damn history channel hehe. you have many reenactments in Norway? i'm looking to attend more gigs in the UK and your country

  • @slikkmegiskrukken I do believe this takes place in Sweden.........

  • @KingGopherNuts No I heard it takes place in Denmark

  • @slikkmegiskrukken I know what you mean. I may not be from norway myself but I am decendaed from Vikings pretty sure they were Berzerkers, and I know that none of my family needs some shroom to go into a killing frenzy.

  • @slikkmegiskrukken Dom snackar för det mesta svenska tror jag....jag är svensk och jag fattar ibland vad dom säger...

They talk mostly on swedish I think....I'm swedish and I understand sometimes what they are sayin...but they have a mixture of icelandic and norwegian accent somtimes, but ofcourse it's an norse language so their words and accents are different than any scandinavian languages we have today... wierd that they don't have any danish accent though, when they are in denmark =S

  • anyone else see the Beowulf similarities

  • should read the book. "Buliwyf" actually cuts off one of the "wendol's" arms and hangs it in the rafters of a building. I'm not sure which story came first, but "Eaters of the Dead" is apparently a complete retelling of this arab guys manuscript about his adventure.

  • its a retelling of the beowulf story trying for a more realistic take on it

  • Motherfucker is wearing a CONQUISTADOR helmet...!

  • LMAO!! well said!!

  • Actually, that's a murmillo's helm. An arena gladiator.

  • Yeah, one of the vikings have murmillo helmet, but another one have the XVI century spanish helm..odd

  • @BadBoy1986PL

is it any chanse that Morre's ore arab hade it

    ore simular before Conqustiadore's?

    Maybee a blunder?

The helmet who look's like some Gladiator'

helmet is a littel indikation that improvisation could hade been big.

    Viking's ofcourse changed there clumsie

sword when they hade a chanse spåecily those who worked on Bysanth and Arab countrie's leading arm development at the time.

    Thank's fore your sharp notice.

    Recomend literatur "Red Snake"Röde Orm"

  • @Ghostsofthefuture not even its a gladiators helmet

  • @NachoNess3542 if you study viking history in depth, you will have learned that the vikings, at different times, explored throughout Europe - into Russia, south to the warmer regions of europe ..so bits & pieces like Helmets of other wares, would have been taken back as "souveniers"

  • @Ghostsofthefuture It's actually a late Roman gladiatorial helm. Which, historically, the Northmen would have used, having scavenged armor, and served in the armies of the Roman Emperors both West and East (Byzantine). The morion, or "Conquistador" helmets were more angular, lacked a faceguard, and were actually used more by the English. Get your claims straight.

  • @Ghostsofthefuture

Its actually a helmet of a Murmillo - a special kind of gladiator. This was the time where many Rome was worlds superpower.

  • Comment removed

  • @Ghostsofthefuture Nah, it's the mark of a champion Gladiator...I forget what It's called...begins with an m.

  • @Ghostsofthefuture

the development off that helmet can easy bee abuot 800 year's before

getting standard in Spanich elit division's

Same goe's fore the gladiator helmet

I wouldentth bee supriced if you could find it in the 30-year's war's ( 1617-1647).

  • @Ghostsofthefuture it looks more like a gladiator helmet from rome or someplace like that...which makes alittle more sense.

  • @Ghostsofthefuture its a murmillo's galea, a gladiator's helmet.

  • @Winterx69 stunning how mutch people actually now about stuff like that....i had no idea..i tought it was a conquistador helm too....

  • @Ghostsofthefuture

    No, it isnt!

  • @Ghostsofthefuture Thats a gladiator helmet

  • @Ghostsofthefuture That is a Roman-style gladiator helmet, but why the the Vikings are hauling around that antique, I have no idea. Ibn Fadlan was from the 10th century, the Romans had been long gone by this time.

  • @Ghostsofthefuture

you can see Gladiator's wehring them 1000 year's before

    thise Viking event

Simply we never found anything that was not there before

  • @Ghostsofthefuture Actually, it's a Roman gladiator helmet from the 1st century AD

  • @Ghostsofthefuture not Conquistador!!! it is a gladiators helmet!!!

  • @Ghostsofthefuture I thought that too

  • @Ghostsofthefuture vikings also raided american soil...but the indians were stronger and pushed them back..but white people returned (spanish) with fire arms...and defeat the indians..indians were great soliders but with meele weapons... fire arms destroyed them..

  • @Ghostsofthefuture spoils of war!

  • @Ghostsofthefuture hey, the guy with the long white hair is wearing a Gladiator helmet

  • Jump to 2:19. from there on its Arthas not Bulvi

  • i like how in a lot of parts in this movie they film in old clear cut logging areas...

  • Yes it was filmed on Vancouver Island. I remember it well.

  • a lot of viking served in the Varangian Guard, a bodyguard unit of the Byzantine Empire. Their task was to protect the emperor, and when he died they had the right to take as much gold as they can carry. They were discribed by friends and foes as strong, 2-handed axe bearers, that would defend the emperor until death

  • The Berzerkers used to eat magic mushrooms and then theyd attack trees and rocks. They used to get quite high before theyd go to battle and often mistake the trees and rocks as people. The people of northern england used to be scared shitless whenever the vikings used to raid there. Study the Battle of Stamford Bridge to see how tough the vikings were.

  • messanger boy aaaaahahaha .a boy?he is about 45 years old

  • Hes older than that lol

  • ok

    this is big

did some one else see the woman in 4.20 wearing the same costume as bell

damn some gotta answer me this shit is for real

of course this woman is not pretty at all

  • Are you serious?

  • about wath ?

or this is some kind of sarcasm for the costume of bell

    come on man

this is you tube, search for beauty and the beast and see for yourself

  • check out the series The Deadliest Warrior- Viking vs Samurai on youtube

  • vikings owns

  • *looks below*

Obvious troll is obvious.... I suggest the person who uploaded these clips delete said troll's comments on the spot whenever possible. :)

That aside, thanks for uploading this. Gets me in touch with my roots. My great grandfather was built like Buliwyf. ~.^

Also, Vladimir Kulich would make an excellent Arthas for any WC movie! Provided he still looks like that lol.

  • fake vikings

  • In the begining the realy speak good skandinavien dialekt's from Norway, Island and Sweden the king who ask fore Bulwy assist is one off the biggest actor on Swed Teater and mowie's

  • @Blasphemer01

sorry but it so many actor's producer's and regisor

with good knowledge and demand's that this should stick with historical kronika+

    saga.

I donth know that mutch but fantastik good film

as fare as I can understand it

  • The guy with the bow is a Ranger straight out of D&D

    Archer

    Tracker

    Fights with two weapons

  • i like the scene where Bulvye(?)the leader, was kneeling down.. i mean, if i were to direct a film version of Warcraft 3, i'd like that guy to be Arthas xD the likeliness!

  • The scene in which Arthas killed his father, the cinematic in WC3 was actually based upon that scene from this film.

  • and mostly canada not Scandanivia where the movie was filmed

  • its iceland my good man:)

  • This farmstead is in the middle of the forrest it seems.

  • do you know guys that the character of ahmad ibn fadlan is not fictitious .

Ahmad ibn Fadlan was a 10th century Arab Muslim writer and traveler who wrote an account of his travels as a member of an embassy of the Abbasid Caliph of Baghdad to the king of the Volga Bulgars.

    search wikipedia for more

  • 4:15 so powerfull with all of the Vikings riding like that with the music!

    5/5!!!

  • Beautiful visual landscapes Countryside of Scandanivia where the 13th Warrior was filmed. Moving scene of the young child found in the field & rescued. Great movie throughout & awesome Viking Warrior's Beowulf & his men were: there's a nice photo shot of them sitting around a large table discussing how they will go about this battle of rescuing this ghost town villiage. Pretty cool...'the red hair Viking warrior he plays Marcus in the Underworld: Evolution movie, I like him/all of them!!

  • Actually it was filmed in British Columbia. Looks similar to Norway here.

  • Oh, "thanks" for the correction of where The 13th WARRIOR was actually filmed for I've always thought it was filmed in Scandanivia. British Columbia is the actual filming grounds for this much "beloved" adventure movie The 13th WARRIOR in whom celebrates it's 10th Anniversary this year 2009! Congrats to the whole Cast of this action/drama Classic film The 13th WARRIOR you guys were and always will be magnificent, great movie!

  • Yes I must admit I thought it was filmed in Norway too. I work in Norway and I couldnt tell the difference. But it is indeed filmed in British Columbia. Its a great film and I love the blend of British,Irish and Scandinavian actors. They portray the Vikings with the real sense of stoic pride the Vikings and Celts had.

  • Well, both Countries Norway & British Columbia are totally breathtaking and have Mountains forever neverending!! My goodness I saw NORWAY's on the edge cliffs & peopel actually hiking on those monsteriuos beautiful Mountians, Wow! Anyway, thanks for your kind response to the Classic action/Drama movie The 13th WARRIOR the men that played those Viking Warriors just blew me away..'very bold, handsome & fearless they were and wish they could "all" do another VIKING Movie together. Big smile!

  • yes, one day I shall visit both countries

  • British Columbia isn't a country. It's a province of Canada.

  • indeed!!!

  • bulwai?when he aproaches the king:)

kinda remind me arthas from warcraft 3 at the human end movie:)

    great movie tho!

  • the book is awesome. i is "Eaters of the Dead" by Michael Crichton. check it out

  • The Norsemen had their own styles of armour, weaponry and clothing borrowed from designs from the places they explored and settled. This is obvious from archeological finds especially those in the North, Jorvik and Orkney of the UK aswell.

One thing is their swords were passed down from generation to such and they werent just lumps of heavy metal. These people had great skills. Best time in History =) love the film too

  • I some of the assumptions are incorrect. The book placed the time around the 10th century. The Byzantine Empire was well established and close to its prime. They would have access Roman based weaponry and anything else they could plunder. these Northmen were true explorers and reached many lands long before European "conquerers."

  • Yes, the accents are all over the place, the armor is anachronistic, but the movie still rocks for all that.

  • this movie is awesome

    =)

    haha idk what to say....

  • No, it s not that guy from Ghoustbusters. This actor is Vladimir Kulich and that one is Wilhelm von Homburg (stupid name) :) but I know, they are look like same

  • one thing is one guy is wearin a spanish conqistador armour they wernt around until the 16th centuary and the vikings were 8th til 11th and one guy has a roman gladiator helmet its kinda messd with the contenuity but its a brilliant movie i love it

  • ye, the most of armour vikings really used was only cloth and leather, since they didnt have tke knowledge nor the resources to make proper armor, and why vikings is described to use a helm with two horn doesnt i understand, since they have only found one helmet with two horns. No more, and they think it wasnt used in wars but in cermonies.

  • they just stole it from everyone else but later on in the viking age they made chainmail and stuff but they learned from other countries.look at the late viking swords they use saracen metals they went as far as constantinople , im studying for my history degree im learning about all this shit its awsome
