In German this concerto has the sub-title "Salute to the Rhine". I like it. Since I discovered Ferdinand Ries as an extraordinary composer a few days ago, he became one of my favorites in a very short time. ;-)
@joao975ca Its no mistake!! Without being detrimental---"Beethoven Lite". The great man was Rie's mentor. But Ries helped B. too--he was instrumental in getting the 9th sym commissioned from the London Philharmonia (where he was living)--in addition to being B.'s secretary for two trying--if valuable--years. Ries was a good, honest, man, and one of the few real friends the irrasable B. had.
a great work by ries - i'm still not too familiar with him but i will get to know him soon for sure - i love the score that follows the music - thanks bartje!
