hi Radlad just to let you know i still exist. check out danjones1uk for 40 seconds of proof from Parkstone Dorset. FOND MEMORIES. Hope you and all well.great to hear your guitar again. Padlad. x
Both Jags albums are brilliant: the songs, Party Games, Dessert Island Discs, and Evening Standards, from the better of the two albums, Evening Standards, I still songs listen to nearly every day
Hi, I got a PMcC left handed bass for my birthday last year and my bro Paddy gave me Mike's 'Bassman' badge. Great vid, good to see it... Hi to John, Nick, Alex and Mike where'ere you be... (I'll tell Paddy hi when I see him)
What a great song this is. Love it to bits. What became of Nick Watkinson? Is he still Scarborough based? Strikes me as a charismatic lead singer.....The guitar break is brilliant too. Best wishes to all......we are all now middle- aged but The Jags rocked!!
@theseizeband I've just seen this question as for some reason it was marked as spam, and I think if it had been Macca's bass Mike would be comfortably retired by now but he's a huge Beatles fan and I think modified it himself.
i saw the jags at toads place in New Haven in summer of 1980- It was really good. You ran thru your set with an encore and still we wanted more - so you started to play the set again !. Thanks and those hard to find videos of you are great !
Fetching green trousers? I bet you could train them to fetch the newspaper! Seriously though, as a member of the band, do you have a theory about why the Jags didn't crack the big time? It makes no sense to me at all. Was it just the fickleness of fashion or was it something more sinister?
@WorthMyWeightinTea Head of the CIA at the time was Nick Kent, right? Why the hell would anyone give the job to that big twat - of all people? Things were going badly wrong. NME had such huge influence and most people just followed like sheep. Thankfully we can at last listen to good pop and even admit it in public.
Shame it never got shown, would a been a rare appearance indeed for the Hofner Senator in a pop video. I have one, in blonde just like this it's a lovely guitar. Mine had the neck snapped off at the body when I got it, but easily repaired 20 years ago and still going strong.
Fun little video ! It's a shame it was never released . But at least we get to see it now ! Your band was very talented. Are you still involved in music today ?
Had a friend just turn me onto the The Jags...feel like I missed out on something great back in the 80's. Was listening to this song in the car last night. LOVE IT! Where was I when this going on?
GREAT MUSIC! (1st time I heard it I said the same thing about Hairspray.)
Yes, I did. With my mate Nick, all those years ago, in a little flat in Clapham North, just off the Wandsworth Road. Perhaps it should have a blue plaque.
If you mean Paddy, then yes of course, he used to be in the band, though I haven't seen him for years, when he was a very talented singer, songwriter and musician. Hopefully still is.
God, how many memories does this bring back??! Must've been about 12. And, yup, still have the vynal LP. Just can't bring myself to car boot some of 'em! Takes u right back. Still goosebumpy.......
I played the hell out of this album and still have the vinyl. Back of My Hand and Evening Standards got most of the play at pink tie, college New Wave parties...along with The Romantics, What I Like About You. I've never seen this video until now. Very rare!
John: Thanks for sharing. Do you have more? You still scoring to animals shagging? Nick still at the garden center? My band still covers Back of My Hand and Desert Island Disks. And your still the biggest influence on my guitar playing.
Well well. How are you? I was that drummer! I seem to remember one evening under the boardwalk at Asbury Park.....!! I trust you are well and happy. Yep, fine days indeed!
oh yeah!!!!Nice to hear from you!!!!asbury park...a bit sandy if i remember corrrectly!!!!I am well! Life is great and New York..well, it is still NY..what are you up to?
I still have my two Jags LPs, "Evening Standards" and "No Tie Like a Present" 25 years later. They were one of the few punk/new wave bands to perform in Utica, NY.
What a discovery! Top stuff-sits really well alongside current bands. But the real Jags hidden gem is the amazing Dumb Blonde, tucked away on the b side of Womans World-Power pop masterpiece!!
Thank you so much for putting this on. This takes me back. I saved up to buy The Jags first album and wasn't disappointed. Desert Island Discs was my favourite, but this isn't far behind.
awesome find! love musical gems like this!

@pernicketty Yeah, the head of the CIA hated powerpop!
As conspiracy theories go, it's not up there with the Kennedy assassination or faked moon landings!

Good Morning Baltimore from Hairspray,
Listen to the chorus , can you spot the difference ?
ahawsley 2 years ago
Blimey! That IS a bit close. I'd never heard the track so listened to the snippet on iTunes.
Even has a bit of very similar sounding sax on it.
Right! That's it.
Nick and I demand all of the royalties from Hairspray.
Might even try and get a percentage of the actual hair product. Hmmmm....

Are you mad? Our zimmer frames wouldn't stand the pressure ...and then there's our wallets too!! Nice thought but a bit impractical these days.
magicalex2007 4 years ago
"Zimmer Frames," had to look that one up (my British English lesson for the day I guess)- a reference to needing a walker. Funny.
I don't know, folks like Roy Wood are still making a go of it. But 9-5 is a lot less stressful on the body.
Loved your music. Thanks.
