As said by NFAK sahib this poem is from Amir Khusro sahib... the inventer of Tabla and Qawali music. it is in farsi i can speak farsi but some of the parts still i dont understand very deep and meaningful poetyr, probably someone who knows more about tasawoof will be able to explain it clearly.
This entire piece is an amazing rendering considering that it was written several hundred years ago by Hadrat Amîr Khusrû (may Allâh be well-pleased with him!). Allâh have mercy of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's soul, Âmîn!
"Muhammad shamme mahfil bûd" is the climaxing line of this towards the end. That is the part during which NFAK tries taking the qawwâlî into another higher level of ecstasy, repeating those words over and over again. I think they mean something along the lines of the Holy Prophet (sallallâhu `alayhi wa Âlihî wa sallam) being the bride/pride of the spiritual gathering (mahfil). Hadrat Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri (hâfizahullâh) explained it once over 15 years ago if anyone can find a recording.
I remember this video. Thank you for uploading this!! It is from Birmingham around the late 80's when Nusrat Fateh started getting famous. Please upload the rest of the Qawwalis in that program.
Awesome. I especially like all the old skool desis in England footage at the start.

You can not see the glory of the ceremony without the light of a candle. This means that you can know God only through his Prophet.
Peace upon you.

I wonder what was the place where I was last night,
All around me were half-slaughtered victims of love,
tossing about in agony.
There was a nymph-like beloved with cypress-like form
and tulip-like face,
Ruthlessly playing havoc with the hearts of the lovers.
God himself was the master of ceremonies in that heavenly court,
oh Khusrau, where (the face of) the Prophet too was shedding light
like a candle.

سراپا آفت دل بود شب جایی که من بودم
خدا خود میر مجلس بود اندر لامکان خسرو
