  • Your impersonations are absolutely spot on. I'm so glad that I found you. I've guffawed many times watching your reviews the last 24 hours. Funny, funny stuff.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!

  • @rodlarocque Me too and the more I watch it the more I love those two together. Bette was wrong in her low estimation of Flynn as an actor. I think Errol lightened her up and made her sexy. And that incredible, heartbreaking Korngold love theme, get's me every time! I saw it again recently and cried like a baby at the finale when they say their good-byes. I have always though this film was vastly underrated. Thanks for watching!

  • As to Technicolor, let's not forget The Anniversary! I understand what you mean about the "glory days" and I agree with you, but can you imagine what Mr. Skeffington would have looked like in Technicolor? Scarier than Baby Jane! I came to The Anniversary very late and flove her in it, her blue Bette Davis "Eye" lol. Anyway, just a small observation. PS- Elizabeth and Essex is MUCH better than The Virgin Queen although at one point she said she thought her latter performance was better.

  • My Goodness, but Errol Flynn was just lovely...

  • You didn't mention Vincent price In that film :(

  • I and Errol's son Sean were like brothers. I miss him so.

  • Truly one of Bette's greatest performances and also one of Errol Flynn's. He was so much better an actor than he's ever gotten credit for, and genuinely one of the most beautiful men ever on the screen.

  • You are just TOOOO fabulous!!! (My God....Now I sound like the tired old queen that I am!) Really though......I wish I had found your videos SOONER! Not only are you charming AND entertaining...but a wealth of info!!!!

I applaud you...you tired old queen! LOL

  • Luv you!!! MORE OUTAKES....MORE OUTAKES/BLOOPERS! hEE hee!

    Did you get my letter?

    Luv,

    Marge

  • another great review - you make me see these films through new eyes - cannot wait to see this one again - thank you

  • I want to see this just for the costumes. Who knows, I may actually begin to like Bette.

  • Love the out take at the end - you are also a pill Steve - you know that i can't wait each week to see what you will say.

  • Steve, again...I really enjoy your reviews, your knowledge of these great classic films AND your gusto. You go boy!!! More...more...more.

  • Errol Flynn was gay.

  • Errol was wonderfully talented and so easy on the eyes ... great selection Steve and in that line I think it's time for a TOQ costumed episode ... it'd be super cute to have Johnny open the segments in a ushers uniform just saying ... have a wonderful weekend!

  • You said that this was Bette's only Technicolor film; I remember The Virgin Queen as being in color too--but not Technicolor?

  • @Toyuki1

Of course, you're right,, but this was the only color one during the major years of her career,(1938-1950).

"The Virgin Queen" (1954) was shot in Cinemascope and Technicolor at Fox, but it was after a three year hiatus following the dreadful "Another Man's Poison" and it wasn't the hit the first one was.

    OXOXOX

  • Great job as always, Steve. But I can't believe you didn't mention the other movie where Bette played Elizabeth I: 1955's "The Virgin Queen."

Thanks again for the delight you bring to me and to so many others. These films deserve all the love and respect you give them. They also deserve to be remembered!

  • Great review as usual. Especially liked the anecdote about the Orry-Kelly costumes. They are very beautiful in the film, but can you imagine what they would have looked like if Miss Davis had gotten her way. I just watched it again and was pleased and surprised to see a young Nanette Fabray as Mistress Margaret Radcliffe.

  • Steve, excellent review informative and entertaining as always! You are turning into a YouTube star!

  • Steve, I think this is your best review to date! Keep 'em coming, I look forward to each new video. Thanks!

  • Five hit movies in one year. How many actresses have had five hit movies this past DECADE? Certainly not Nicole "Box office poison" Kidman.

  • Great stuff as always Steve.

  • Steve, I absolutely love the care you take in surrounding yourself with books and other memorabilia that reflects the movie you're talking about. Your attention to detail is as much fun as your knowledge of and passion for these old flickers!!

  • @BrizyComics

Thank GOD, I can finally use all this memorabilia for something other than falling on my head occasionally...not knocking any sense into me, unfortunatley. Ha! I so appreciate your comments. Thanks again!

  • I am a huge Bette Davis fan and I am ashamed to say I've never seen this movie. After your recommendation I'll be seeing it!

  • @seeteesmith

Oh, I'm soooo glad you'll have a new Bette to view! This is such a big and important picture. One of the things I most love about doing TOQ is turning people on to the treasure trove of classic films that are available! I wish I could be with you when you first see it! Also, this film has one of the MOST romantic scores EVER! Erich Wolfgang Korngold was simply a genius! Also, check out "Kings Row" , another sweeping score and great film!

    Thanks for watching!

    OXOXOX
