Can you spend some time talking about finger technique, and developing single stroke speed?

Sure, even more so, I would point you to two already existing video demos here with Dave Weckl from "A Natural Evolution" and also if you can find his "Back To Basics" video. For me, I try to make sure that I practice building equal strength in both hands, making each stroke even and deliberate.And the faster the tempo, the more your arms relax and your fingers control the movement of the sticks. Tighter snare heads help with stick response as well.
