midori ito's legs aren't in good condition as she did too much triple axels. the impact on the landing of triple axel is too great for women.

This looks like the 84-85 NHK. So,she must have been 15. To this day, nobody else jumps like she did. Midori would be the only female skater who wouldn't ever need to worry about downgrades in the current rule!

@youtubo1073 Her leg wrap was corrected by 1983. In this clip, there is no ugly wrap; in fact, it is aesthetically very pleasing. You should check out the footages from 1980-82. She jumps very much like Nakano Yukari.

Comapring the Asada's past 2 years to Midori Ito when she was Mao Asada's current age, Ito she finished 8th and then 6th at worlds. Asada finished 1st and 4th.

I still think Midori Ito was/is a wonderful skater.

but back when Midori competed didn't they still have to do the 'figures' part of the competition? From what i remember about Midori, she was teriible at the compulsory figures, but always way out performed everyone in the short and long programs. I'm not 100% sure, but i think midori only started winning consistantly when compulsort figures were dropped as part of competition

Ito did not do ten triple axels in a row she did ten doubles. In the video I saw on YouTube titled Midori Ito does 10 triple Axels in a row, she is actually doing doubles.

I think Ito is a wonderful skater.

I did watch and then checked the ISU rules. This is not a 2 foot landing. It is Touch down with free foot (without weight transfer). The jump is considered landed with a reduced GOE.

Landing on two feet (weight transfer) requires a negative overall GOE, touch down of free foot does not. Mao does not transfer her weight to the free foot in the video you pointed to.

It's fully rotated all right, and don't just watch Midori on this one video. Look at all her other triple axels (more than any other woman in history).

She's the best. You should watch Rose of Pain and watch the slow motion at the end. Best triple axel in history.

It´s really exciting that we finally have another female skater who can do the triple axel! however, Mao´s triple lutz and salchow are weak so probably Midori is the better jumper. Mao has many excellent qualities that surpasses Midori especially since with the COP now the skaters do so many difficult things like the biellman spin and the quality of the spiral sequences, step seq and spin comb are far more sophisticated. In terms of pure jumping, Midori has set the bar for the last 20 yrs

Her technique really is one of a kind. She has an incredible lean going up into the jump, but manages to fix it in the air and straighten out before she lands it. Anyone else woulda fallen flat on their face doing the jump that way, but it works for her!
