Since clearly the crisis was 'won' or benefit was had by some and they have a strong incentive to either create a crisis or fuel one since in the end they will benefit greatly. Who benefited billions from Sachs? that is the person who you should seize part or all of their wealth and then pay the debt and send a message to such activity by passing a death penalty cause, legally define it as a 'crime against humanity'.
The president does not have the power to actually do something about it. Mostly congress does. For example, the president can't just sack whomever he wants in key positions like the chairman of the Fed but apparently when the position is open he can recommend who goes up for it, so the power is limited. If you really want to clean up the system, seize wealth of those who cause economic destruction after the fact so they can't use crisis to gain massive wealth. Punish the 'winners' of crisis.

State welfare programs have been privatized by the banks and they are letting even fewer people get med assistance than before. The number of uninsured is growing, not decreasing.

now, after the 2010 elections, the republican camp has the house and a reduced majority in the senate. Only non-controversial issues can get past both houses. Its a catastrophe, and during a period of split government nothing can get done. By electing the other party after we think one isnt doing "good enough" how do we expect them to do better. Its a flawed way of thinking and we could only blame ourselves because nothing can get passed now.

I'm not really sure why everybody thinks changing things is an easy task. I am disappointed that Obama did not follow through with all of his 2008 promises, but I certainly understand why not. Even before the elections of 2010 filled the republican ranks in congress with fresh blood, the democrats were always one senator away from a filibuster proof majority. Since clearly the crisis was 'won' or benefit was had by some and they have a strong incentive to either create a crisis or fuel one since in the end they will benefit greatly. Who benefited billions from Sachs? that is the person who you should seize part or all of their wealth and then pay the debt and send a message to such activity by passing a death penalty cause, legally define it as a 'crime against humanity'.

The president does not have the power to actually do something about it. Mostly congress does. For example, the president can't just sack whomever he wants in key positions like the chairman of the Fed but apparently when the position is open he can recommend who goes up for it, so the power is limited. If you really want to clean up the system, seize wealth of those who cause economic destruction after the fact so they can't use crisis to gain massive wealth. Punish the 'winners' of crisis.

Capitalism without rules is a giant money-grab. Harnessed and focused it can fuel the ultimate expressions of freedom and democracy. A capitalistic economic system geared to the citizens prosperity is an unstoppable machine. It also creates a huge amount of wealth for the top 1%. Which is ok. Our current system is geared toward funneling ALL THE MONEY to the top 1%.
