Little Lamb is a poem about a little lamb being told he was created by the Lamb of God. Its a wonder why many do not get it. Jesus Christ was called the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
When we interviewed him in 1986 [see the clip "JR Speaks -- NOT!"] he acted as though he had always been completely uncomfortable doing on-camera interviews. This proves that was untrue, so I think there may've been one early-80s interview in particular that went terribly wrong. Anyone have an idea what it was? - 1b2s
@1nceBitten2wiceShy I have watched your clip as well as a lot of other interviews with Jojo. I think one big difference is the point in time. Around this time, he was playing with the version of a band he still considers the best he had ever played with - and the music they were making was magical and joyful. By 1986, there had been different band headaches, different label headaches, different press headaches. Or maybe Jojo was just having fun with you all with a playful (irritating?) put-on.
@1nceBitten2wiceShy it kinda just looked like he was having fun, to me. If you watch the clip from The Cutting Edge (also on YouTube) from around the same time, he is pretty straightforward there as well. this is just my theory, as I have not discussed this with him....

Holy shit! Tony Wilson meets Jonathan Richman. This is fantastic!!

I think the poem they refer to is called "The Lamb" by William Blake.
MJBRichards 2 years ago
That was a clear answer from Richman there.
I think that's where the backbone of his music is, in that statement: if you like it, then it's good music, there is no more important criteria.
