i play snare drum and a lot of snare drums are tuned high personally for me in high school because it's all on the taste and personally we feel better as a snareline being able to play as perfectly as possible with a harder circumstance and feel the drum sound more of a tat and and is louder over the band to be able to lead the band in what needs to be accomplished like in the original military.

I need some advice from some Drum Line drummers ??

When I played in the drum line in 1973, the snare drums were tuned much lower

giving them more warmth and more voice....projection didn't seem to be a problem. They blended more with the bass drums.

But these days the snare drums sound like they're tuned to high giving no middle ground, plus they feel weird to play? Opinions please !!

In my opinion, higher snare tuning gives a higher rebound to the player, and more of a snap to the sound, distinguishing it from the other 2 types of drum in a Corps. Basses, lowest, Tenors as a middle-ground, and Snare as the fastest, highest, and snappiest.

@boonehawks same priciple as using triggered bass drums in hardcore metal/grindcore music. In the faster passages notes seem to blend. Triggers and tight tuning bring out each note.

This the "Military Tattoo" show hosted in Edinburgh, which has loads of performances from all over the world. This group - The Top Secret Drum Corps - is from Basel, Switzerland, hence the flags and outfits.

The Top Secret bit partly refers to how they got together and trained in secret, and is also a humorous assertion that the Swiss militia has a secret musical weapon at its disposal :P Wouldn't put it past em!
