Haha, believe it or not, the only things that cost me money was the NST ($30-$40?), the tupperware capacitor container ($5 bucks), and the mineral oil in the cap. The variac was a Christmas present, the sec wire was from a tv deflection yoke, and the primary wire was from a spool of 12awg wire that our electrician friend at church gave me.
