@catalin2409 Maybe this is not even a real car at all?
The registration and VIN-number says Hartge (BMW is not mentioned at all). You can call Hartge and ask if they made one "hartge m3 csl", tell them the color is estoril blue, I´m sure the guy on the phone have heard of it.
The whole carboard floor thing was perpetuated by Clarkson on the roadtest of the CSL. The car has lightweight parts--but a cardboard boot floor IS NOT one of them! LOLOL
very nice car man but this isnt an actual csl. Get the carbon fiber roof and recaro seats! also take out your trunk and take out the bottom plate and replace with cardboard! then you will have an actual csl!
You can find educated $info about the car in previous posts. The car has carbon fiber roof (and now Recaro PP leather seats). The car is a Hartge - nothing more, nothing less. Replacing the trunk plate with cardboard won't turn it into an "actual csl". I will post up a better video next summer.
@morteym ok my point exactly why does this video say hartage m3 csl? and yes replace the engine and trunk n roof and you will basically... have a csl.... Not the exact blueprint but who cares?
Morten I think you need to post some more info in the car for all the "haters"
But If my reccollection is right Hartge took an M3 chassis from the BMW factory, buildt the car with CSL parts and put in the interior and the comforts of a standard M3.
This car has serial no. 1..... of 1.
It still has a CSL engine with 360hp, and the use of lightweight parts makes it a lot lighter than a stock M3.
Not a part of the limited production BMW M3 CSL's, but a very special car indeed.
this isnt a csl.. apart from the engine.. CSL is about lightweight.. And with that interior it simpley cant be as good at handling as the real csl. Dont misunderstand me.. its a bad as car.. but not a csl. sorry.. It hasnt even the "M-track-mode" button on the steeringwheel.
to a point you are right, it is not one of the BMW CSL series.
It does however have all the lightweight CF body parts of the CSL. it may not be 180kg lighter than the M3 like the CSL, probably "just" 100kg due to the interior.
The M-track mode is moved to the "sport" button fo this specific car.
Hartge don't claim it to be a BMW CSL, but a Hartge CSL.
A slight difference as Hartge is a licenced car manufacturer just like BMW.
180 kg?? The CSL is about 110 kg lighter than a standard E46. The original interor is very heavy. Only the electric seats is about 50 kg. My quess is that this Hartge is about 30 kg lighter than the standard model. Maybe a Harge CSL, but its pretty confusing to use "CSL" as a model from Hartge when the car is so close to the real CSL.. They should name it something else.
I have had the car on a weight scale a couple of times but I don't know what numbers are correct. It's more than 30 kg lighter than stock M3. The M3 seats are 28kg each, the rear muffler is 26kg (at least 13kg heavier than supersprint... the mid pipe is also much lighter than stock)..
This Hartge M3 has now Recaro Pole Position seats which shaved off a lot of weight. But it still has airbags, armrest, stereo, navi, rear window of glas, trunk plate not carboard etc.
Ok.. I meen that you save about 50 kg by ripping out 2 * 28kg and replacing them with 2 new seats about 5-6 kg a piece.. But offcourse its more than 30 kg lighter than a stock E46 if you have replaced the seats and rear muffler.. You did not say that. But then it isnt done by hartge so... Also the rear muffler isnt from hartge either.. If you didnt change anything from the standard Hartge model it would be about 30 kg lighter is my guess.
I can understand that some people find the CSL tag confusing. Regardless of that, I can assure you there is much more to a CSL than just weight reduction. CSL isn't THAT much lighter than a stock M3 either.
If you shave off 110kg off an M3 - would it feel like a CSL? No. I have tried several stock M3s and they didn't have the same feeling and they didn't get me much excited...
The sound from the air intake and the shocks/springs is probably the most important factor, and the seats..
Im not comparing your car to a stock E46 M3 in any way. I just said that there is no way a CSL is 180 kg lighter than stock (as 850 bimmer said). A CSL with nothing in it as stereo, and AC is about 110 kg lighter. I know that you cant shave off 110 kg from a stock M3 to make it a CSL.. Its about where the kilos are saved, steering and so on.. This I know! There are CSL`s only 70 kg lighter than a unequipped stock M3 if they have the stereo and AC, elektric windows and so on..
I love the look of Hartge's Classic rims, but they're too heavy, compared to original "Motorsport" wheels - so I expect decrease in handling. What's your experience?
I've never tried the car with the 19" BBS wheels with good tires so I don't really know the difference as fare as handling goes. At this time they got winter tires so the handling is poor even for normal daily driving.
I agree the 20" is too heavy for track use but on the road I'm amazed how good they perform actually - that's why I haven't bothered with changing them out with 19". The tires are very good though, and the comfort is still better than my 323 Ci with 18" BBS LM wheels IMO.
No, it's not - it's not even a "real" BMW. It was built (hand made) by Hartge. The VIN number will tell you the name is Hartge M3 CSL. To me that's what it is - a Hartge. People can like it or choose not to, most bmw entusiasts that I know do indeed, however it seems easy sometimes to throw comments over the internet and claim false facts about the car being fake and all that. The car is uniqe and beautiful, I find it much more interesting than a normal M3 (that's why I bought it).
Actually, it was never a on their model program. Only a handfull of Hartge CSLs were made. I've seen one or two identical to the real CSL (with Navi). I think one were ordered in 2005 when BMW no longer produced CSLs (only aprox 1400 were made).
I've also seen another Hartge with leather csl seats and csl exterior but with bilstein suspension and hartge brakes etc. If I recall correctly the engine is a supercharged V8 though.
wow there's a lot of people hating on this car, are you all serious? who the fuck cares if it has 20's. logistically your probably just upset you cant afford a 110k+ M3 thats not available in the u.s.
i want to do some kind of ram air open horned intake like that to my E39 M5...
Congrats you bought a trunk, suspension, intake manifold, and 20"rims (big mistake), ooo and a new front bumper. how about maybe do something that will actually bring out the power of the car epic song for simple BPU = FAIL
