  • I don't know any of you but I'm so proud of yall! Not many people get to have this kind of experience, and not many people understand how much it means to be a part of something like this. You wil truly hold onto this forever and will be proud of for the rest of your lives. When you're all in college 3-5 years from now, you can look back on this and say "hey, I was part of something HUGE", or just cry like I did, lol! Good job and congratulations to each and every one of you!!

  • fills me with pride to see the tradition of 1st place still being upheld! keep it up guys

    -- 07 and 08 alto sax vet

  • Still can't believe I was a part of this! Felt so good to march with people that actually want to be there. Practicing my butt off for this year in Seattle!

-Kevin Mullen - 9th Chair Trumpet - Terry High School

  • @molecular360 man Kevin, I can't wait to do this all over again in Seattle this year!!! -Andrew Ladd

  • Anyone have any advice as far as auditioning? And what's the day to day practicing like?

  • @AsherSax the whole thing is two weeks long. First week consists of marching rehearsals, concert rehearsals, then lobby show rehearsals (later on in the week). It's pretty intense training for the parade, but it is all so worth it once you get to the day of the parade.

  • @atl2469 So is the competition like in Australia this summer a marching contest, concert contest, or both? What all outside of the competition like in Sydney have you attended as a member?

  • @AsherSax It will not be in Sydney again. It changes every year. It will be in Seattle, Washington. It is a parade contest I guess you could say. The concert part is just for the parents at the end of the one week of band camp. Definitely some pretty hard but really cool music.

  • @atl2469 Oh cool. I knew it was a competition that changed to a different place each year, but I didn't know it was a parade competition. Would you say the Lions Band is probably one of the best bands in the world? What's the music difficulty like? Sorry for all the questions, but I really appreciate you taking the time to answer them. Thank you. :-)

  • @AsherSax It's not a problem at all :-). I'm not really sure that it is the best band in the world per cay, but we were 50 points higher than the 2nd place lions band. If you are a woodwind player, then your music (from a trumpets perspective) sounds pretty awesome. Every year they always have a woodwind feature that is always cool. It really just depends on the year.. the music this year wasn't hard at all.

  • @atl2469 Yeah, I'm a saxophonist. That's really cool. How did your audition go? How did you stand out from all of the others that didn't make it? I believe there are only 6 saxes that will be accepted into the band (there might be a few alternates, I don't remember) so I'm wondering how to stand out.

  • Fantastic memories... I guess that happens when you win an international competition!

Andrew Van Velsor 5th bass drum (Senatobia High School)

  • @avv2010 Man, that was the most fun I have ever had in my life. I can't wait till this year's audition. Sure it's Seattle and won't be nearly as fun as Sydney, Australia, but it will still be a blast!!

Andrew Ladd 4th Chair Trumpet (Northwest Rankin High School)

  • No competition.

-Eli Dollar, 1st chair Tenor Saxophone. Ocean Springs

  • @elidollar13 you're retarded, first chair tenor best friend of mine. ;)

  • Congratulations to all the band members -- once again you proved you are the very best of the best and we are so very proud of each and every one of you!

Lions Andy and Jane Kalinowski - Columbus, MS

  • Dang.. That was the most advanced I'd ever seen of ANY high school band. Great job! :D

  • Outstanding! Total domination!! Proud of ya guys!

    Lions Band Alum 1992-1993

  • We worked our butt off to earn this 1st place international Champion title!!!

~Andrew Ladd 4th chair trumpet (Northwest Rankin High School) Brandon, MS

  • @atl2469 For real. That was the hardest i've ever worked in my life. It was so worth it though.

  • We are very proud of all of you. You represent Mississippi well.
