  • This song is about a heroin addict or so is said about the origins. But, easily can be related to the codependence of cohabitating with a mental abusive man or a woman. To any of those who live with such an unhappy addiction, fear or “prison”, serve yourself, twist and turn away, set your spirit free and lead your heart away, break away into the light and into the day.

  • he knows what he´s singing about, personal accounts makes you listen, u can hear it..... bone chilling,.... if pain was a song this song is the real deal.... addiction in any way a form is Bad... i have learnt from friends and loved ones and i am glad bono is still around

  • Show!!

  • How anybody can dislike this performance is beyond me.. People that are interested in the DVD; the bootleg can be downloaded at the ultimate bootleg experience.

  • Bono if you're listening I need to say, the beuaty of the internet is we get to see you at your best and your worst- your best is in this video...I look forward to seeing it again

  • I think this is the real version on their live album...Under a bloodred Sky....I recognize this...

  • I was 17 years @that time...I was crazy from U2.....especially their live performances...I even live not far from Dortmund....about 80km....

  • Bono was the most passionated performancer ever.

  • @voodoopol and still is ;)

  • Und ich war live dabei!

  • Brilliant !

  • I would kill to have been in the audience

  • i would kill for a version of this song on itunes

  • Pure class, they just needed their instruments to rock out loud

& make every single performance one you'd never forget

i wish i could've seen 'm in their good years

i'm not sure it'll be entirely worth it to go see 'm today

  • Unlike modern singers, these guys did not have to wait until they heard a tune off a record before they could perform it.

The way it should be, go to a gig to hear a band perform, not plagiarise somebody else.

  • the best rock of the 80s

  • Bono has a vocal range, from the beginnings of the band until today. His highest score was achieved in 1984 in the studio version of "Bad", registering a C ♯ 5 (do ♯ 5), as in the song "Rescue Loves Me " long life U2!!!

  • poor bono 0:05

  • bono share your million

  • in 1984 u2 sounds great...

  • @bonowox33

    they still do now;)

    U2 4ever!

    u2 unites everything...

  • What I love about "Bad," more than any song is that as many times as I listen to the song, each version is somehow different, no matter if the difference is small or large....in some, Adam Clayton's base comes through strong, in others, Edge varies the guitar bits, particularly at the end...or Bono's voice inflection changes. The song to me as much indicative of U2's ability to change and their greatness as any song they've done and as usual it is completely original. Not another one like it.

  • @LoyalRaiderFan thats what I have been saying for the last 25 years also the way he can incorporate other songs lyrics into his while playing live, Live Aid 85 is a good example

  • @LoyalRaiderFan Could not agree any more. Just an incredible song by an incredible band.

  • see you guys in sydney dec 13

  • What a performance, no one can come close to U2.

  • I saw em at Salford uni 1977 the best 3 quid i spent that week!

  • Yeah Bono's voice was a little bit rough to start with but their getting used to new set ups I think!

  • this has to be one of u2s greatest gigs, needs to be on dvd now!!!

  • i think this is 87..i could be wrong. but i know TUF came out in 85 lol..i suppose they could have played it live before the album version..but it sounds like the wide awake version..but who cares..amazing song

  • @u2bad1989 Unforgettable Fire came out in 1984 my man, and this concert is from that year as well. 1987 was when Joshua Tree came out, and when they went on the Joshua Tree tour. But like you said, who cares, amazing song :)

  • U2 wrote BOGOTA

  • @SanDumas88 What is BOGOTA?

  • this song is imortal. U2 is imortal.

  • The guitar was perfect in this version of the song it just cuts right through the atmosphere of the stadium and it makes it so dream like.

  • BEST

  • I saw u2 live twice at Edinburgh playhouse in Nov 84, totally amazing gigs in my opinion U2's finest period was this tour 84/85 Bad at Werchter days before the Live Aid gig is fantastic

  • thanx U2

  • i saw U2 in Paris (Balard) in 1984 and Vincennes (1987) another century...

    good souvenirs !!

  • "Epic" totally GALATIC...........U2 4ever

  • I love you!....

  • Heartbreaking song of friendship.

  • totally true.....tear jurking !

  • I also love Running to Stand from Sydney ZOO....look at RickU2s version....listen to at LEAST the first 4 minutes.....wow....but this one here.....first time I heard it...and I thought I loved the Live Aid one....

  • I mean it may be a toss up now...between the two...not to mention the R&H one....

Moment of Surrender you probably know is about heroine ....

  • Maybe the best post ever. I must say.

  • super !!!!!!

  • Maybe the best song ever. I must say.

  • Who's the guy who screaming "yayyyy" for heroin?

  • know 1 has given more to their audience than bono in the 80's and it left him drained .he had the faith to lay it bare and give. and us the fans healed that outporing with the love for the music +band u2tutu2!!!

  • This is one of the best live performance from Bono, Hes truley giving it his all

Thanks for the video, Would love to get the whole gig on a disc.

    Ammmazing

    x

  • <3 <3 <3

  • LA chanson de U2 s'il en est une!

  • Wha?

  • I think little of soon but after because if the gone too much for himself and this is where the you have no idea because how many flight of stairs?

  • ???????????????

  • I agree, but they just could not bleed so much (emotionally) every night without crashing at some stage. "And you give yourself away". The crash came during the Lovetown tour, thats the main reason for Achtung Baby and the shades, they had to keep something back to stay sane. But at full flight with his heart wide open, Bono was unique, these clips really give me goosebumps!

  • @joewillant Hey, good point (I would've loved to see them back then), but please elaborate on the 'Lovetown' part... Sounds interesting, since I don't know about it :-)

Btw; without having actually seen the DVD for the Unforgettable Fire 25th anniversary, the idea of including that amnesty koncert from 86 seems out of place - since they were already all into cowboy hats and indian coats at that time, which was a far stretch from the U2 of 84/85 imo

  • @MrThomasdrewsen Or was it 'the self-aid concert'? Never mind, U2 had changed by then anyhow

  • really sad we have so ittle video from this tour

    to me its the best

  • Achtung baby!

  • what can i say. thers rock n roll and theres U2! great stuff. teenage memories an all that. And they are still great today.

  • My god, that falsetto. So sweet and tender and emotional.

We'll never have this Bono back again, God bless him. But U2 are still making some of the finest music in the world today, and I for one can't wait to see the new incarnation of U2 that the next album will bring.

  • This has to be my favorite version of this video. It really showcases Larry's work on the drums. Plus it takes me back to my high school years...from 22 years ago! LOL!

Now it is me, or does some of the footage of this video make it onto the video version seen on the Unforgettable Fire video collection, aka the Wide Awake In America video version? Some of the footage there looks identical to this video.

  • what emotion! BEAUTIFUL SONG & LYRICS

    U2 forever

  • Beatiful lyric

  • Sigh... audience is a bit dim unfortunately.

"A friend of mine who sold himself to heroin..."

    "YEEEEAHHHHHHH!"

  • oh this is just so good,

  • wow, meine jungs in dortmund...wahnsinn...ich liebe sie...ach bono-man...damals warst du noch so wütend

  • git version ,gretings from Poland :))

  • pure magic u2 during this tour something that wasnt the same the following tours

    love this show

  • excellent version.

  • Favorite song of all time.

Captures the essence of what I love about the band.

  • I've this videotape since it's broadcast and I've look at it many, many, many times !!

This was for me the best time as fan, this is Bono and U2 at its Best.

  • it is indeed mate, though I must say my favourite album is Acthung Baby

  • love the Kentucky waterfall mullet

  • Back then though it was a pretty normal hairstyle for many muscians. Just look at Duran Duran circa 1984. It only later developed the "white trash" connotation. 'Back in 84 it was sort of cutting edge.

  • Fuck the hair style. I saw this 1984 concert in Chicago. Best ever.

  • This song gives me chills every time!

  • Hello :)

Thank you for this wonderful Video!

God bless U2 and God bless you :)

  • Dirty Krauts couldn't clap the beat at the beginning lol

  • great version of my favorite song.

great vocals and the 84/85 versions of this song were by far the most emotive. chills i'm telling you. chills

  • bono at his best magic

  • My favorite version of this was at glasgow secc 1987 2nd night, but any version from the 1985 tour tour to 1987 tour is usually the same when bono goes from one song to another from the rolling stones to elton john lou reed van morrison etc i, not sure what it is that gives me a buzz when i hear bono sing other peoples songs during bad but i love it

"daddy your a fool to cry"

  • Great song love it

  • never knew what this song was about but now i know. wow. such a powerful song and will always be one of the best songs of all time.

  • If i, cut through myself, set your spirit free....

  • simply superb.

  • U2 best live version of Bad.

    I really love this song

  • it is so amzing good wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I absolutely love the sound of a TC2290 Digital Delay in the Edge's hands :) So I had to go out and get me 2 Korg SDD3000's that he used in the studio ... songs like this - especially this one - are a tutorial in how to deploy such technology and translate it into something meaningful ... sublime :)

  • The best live performance of this song, very similar to that of Live Aid, is on the EP "Wide Awake in America". It also contains a live version of "A Sort of Homecoming". So, if you want a live version that you can boom on your amplifier and enjoy the Edge's long solo and Bono's better vocals, get the EP. I have a vinyl copy. It sounds great!

  • Bad changed my life thank you, and I agree with all the u2 kicks ass type comments too. thank you Amazing ..just ask grace

  • waaaaah! i love U2

  • bono kicks ass the band does ,they tore this song up.The way he sang this song makes me want to stay wide awake, shit I'm not sleeping

  • one of my favorite songs of my life! ;-)

  • I love listening to these older versions of "Bad" because Bono doesn't truncate any verses, like he does today, and his voice just takes the listener to this place I can't quite define. It's strangely confessional in a way.

  • I agree probably the best live version I heard to date apart for album version.

  • u2 are amazing. no group put so much efert and emotion into a song 100% class

  • The Edge is amazing!

    Bono's vox are perfect!

  • By far the best version I've ever seen of this song. Please don't forget the Edge. His guitar multiplies the emotions Bono is putting in this song. One of their best songs ever.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Great version from the best concert ever(after point depot).

  • Great song, one of my all-time favorites. At times nearly a life-saving song for me.

  • this is a supurb version, the boy could really sing when he was younger, wish people would stop slagging him off because he cant do it now..no band has toured as much as u2.can you imagine singing these songs week in week out without it taking its toll on your voice.bono is a rare talant and puts so much power in his performances.

  • have you listened to him lately? he can still sing...once a fan always a fan U2 ROCKS...

  • He's still a fantastic singer, but there's something about the screaming, just utter desperation in his voice back in '85-'85 that makes that era very special to me. He'll never sound like that again.

  • Wow...Mr. Mullen Jr, greatest rock drummer of all time.

  • Word!!

  • Exactly, I think so!

  • estos tipos son unos monstros

  • this is only for fans

  • sure thing:)

  • thankx for posting!! love u2 totally loveee this song :)

  • Happy Birthday Bono...

  • drugs?fuck,don,t touch!

  • Amazing. This song is always better live than on the album. I'm not surprised Bono's voice isn't as powerful as it used to be after belting out songs like that all these years, but he still has a good voice.

  • It's because of all the smoking he did man, he smoked because he wanted his voice to become raspy and stuff, but it just completely messed up his voice.

  • Great!!! those early performances form U2. But I still like them right now :D

  • too good

  • one of my favorite's

  • Beautiful ! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • hahaha a chili peppers fan would think that larry mullen jr. was the guitarist.

  • Absolutely amazing. It's passion, musical excellence & great showmanship combined. I love this song; it's one of my favorite U2 songs. Powerful stuff.

  • got any footage of u2 summer festivals 1985 I.E. miltin keynes bowl croke park etc..?

  • Im on the look out for more i will post if i find any!

  • Awesome, powerful song. Used to listen to this with my wife as we were into the hell of our addiction, tears streaming down our faces...it was really painful, in a beautiful way. Being clean now for 10 years, this song is still beautiful in a very positive way. Thanks

  • thats a wonderful story. many thanks for sharing that.

    all the best.

  • you are an idiot..larry mullen , jr is the drummer

  • p.s. Larry sure can bang!

  • when i first met my partner one of the first things i told her when talking about music was that bad was the greatest song EVER written and i stand by that comment today 22yrs later after its been written as heroin more of a curse now than it ever was and bono wrote about addiction with a fierce intensity that was hard to imagine back in 1994!!WHAT A GREAT VERSION OF A GREAT SONG!!

  • here's to U2! one of the most original and influential bands ever to play...

  • amen

  • Awesome!

  • I had Tickets to that tour but I was on the wresting team that yaer and the match was switched and I gave my brother the tickets

  • This was the first U2 song I ever heard way back in 84 and it made me fall in love with this band! I've seen them in concert many many times and everytime I hear this song I get goosebumps and think back 22 years ago and I am still very passionate about my all time favorite band and the biggest band in the world!

  • An absolute favorite of mine. Bad (Live) and Pride In The Name Of Love were perfection in the 80's. Thanks for posting this video, brings back alot of memories!!

  • I cant believe i am seeing this from 1984 rare peformance like this caught on video. Thank you so much for sharing what is most likely my favorite more inspiring U2 song.

  • My WAIA LP is packed away somewhere and I hadn't heard this live in years until I attended my first U2 concert last year.

This video is PERFECTION, and a reminder of how I got so passionate about U2 in the first place - thanks for being a true fan ax.

  • wow great audio...this is one of the earliest versions of this song i found on here....bravo!

  • What a magnificent mullet.

  • Funny enough, back then mullets were not redneck or white trash. They were in many ways a kind of modern/slightly new wave hair style. By 1989 or so they began to lose favor and then they became more associated with being kind of white trash.

  • Incredible. Amazing that only 3 guys are producing that much sound. Beautiful.

  • 4 guys, drummer, bassist, guitarist, singer. Lol.

  • bono isn't playing an instrument.

  • Isn't he included in producing the sound of the song?

  • he plays guitar.

  • Wow, I forgot how powerful this song was. One of the only bands in the world who can bring a tear to my eye.

  • Spectacular vid!

  • i saw this band back in the mid 80's - they were truly free spirits - so raw - was one of the best experiences of my life. Thank you so much for reminding us and sharing.

  • I'm Speechless.

  • Cool to hear it when he could actually hit the hoo-hoo's

  • Thanks a lot !!! I've been searching for this song for years ... Thank YOU for posting it. I only knew the melody with this crazy uuu-huuuuu. Very powerful Song. Bono forever !

  • una muy buenca cancion q suena bien en vivo y en studio ... d la mejor banda del mundo y d la historia U2 .. VIVA BONO , VIVA U2 !!!

  • I think the DVD RaH version is the best version ever played.

  • Es de las primeras veces que la tocaban, aun no la dominaba vocálmente.
