FONCLAIRE till ah dead but.....Professor never had another storm ...meanwhile Jit went on to win 4 more panoramas after this, and the first hattrick ever....but like I said FONCLAIRE till I dead we gon keep fighting!!!
One of Jit's best arrangements but a STORM came through the savannah that panorama and blew everyone away..... However we can argue until the end of time of this one. The judges thought the STORM was not strong enough.
Renegades 4 LIFE these judges dont no anything about pan put them infront a pan and ask them to play a renegades tune they wouldn't no where to start. My wife is from america and the only three bands she want to jump up with on the drag final night is renegades, allstars & phase II.
How alyuh could compare Philmore with Jit??? When Jit started arranging for Renegades, (and had been so for years before) in 1982, Philmore was juss a pimply faced young man fresh off playing with Hatters...I knew him there. No comparing. Jit is a MASTER. Philmore tried, buh yuh juss counld't make dat nite....sorry! Besides dem north judges have been unkind to south bands historically for years.
Pan by Storm was the winner for that year, allyuh could say what allyuh want, Fonclaire beat dey life out dat night. Ask Alvin Daniel, he go tell allyuh.
Thing is I've viewed booth videos of both Renegades and Fornclaire over the years and this continues to be a debate. Both songs and arrangements were genius works and great musicianship by the bands I would give Renegades the edge though somehow Fornclaire got carried away with the tempo and the turn lost clarity a bit renegades was more steady even though fornclaire was more exciting it kinda like the modern Phase two All stars battle different is the last two bands are much more consistent.
Thanks for your comments - however, comparing Phase II and Allstars to the Battles that took place in the 80's and 90's is not a good comparison. Generally, Panorama has lost its electricity with Arrangers aiming only for the judges. Nothing is left for the "North Stand". Panorama as of late has been dry & boring - however, this year was more exciting & I hope the trend continues upwards...
I have listened to Fonclaire and Renegades again after all these years and I have to say aftter the dust has settled and loyalties aside, Fonclaire deserved to win. Listen to the passion and high drama of the Fonclaire arrangement from the first note... The sweetness of the melody, the cleaness of the transitions.... I can go on and on...
Chief, ah wit yuh (i ah south boy), but Renegades played more than just good, they played great and legend has it Jit threw a portion of an arrangement in at the last minute. Philmore was definitely more creative and made more with less. Jit had a familiar Kitch tune which I think gave him the bump to go over.... Both played with passion and the thing is the argument can go on and on and on about who won....all these years later and there is still debate....LOL
Maybe some were caught up in the 'passion' and 'high drama' that the moment presented; a band seemingly positioned to challenge Jit and Renegades. In my opinion it's not even close. I think there is more musical content in any 2 min passage of 'Iron Man' than in all of 'Storm' Philmore's arrangement is a simple, exciting, and percussive one. Jit's is deeply layered, complicated, well structured and difficult to execute. ..4:20 - 4:58, 5:13 - 5:34, and the orchestral crescendo at 7:32.
I totally agree with your comments. I was there to experience this Panorama. Both bands played extremely well.
However the musical content of Renegades 'Iron Man' is on a different level...Musically... as much as I liked Fonclaire.....musically they were precarious.....fast...exciting...and well executed...buit weak in arrangement....Renegades all the way....
You mad awah. Fonclaire played real good but they deserved second place. Anything lower than second would of been robbery. Renegades was the best that night.
Renegades coming back dis yr...its a new era the Amrit Samaroo era the future is bright for Renegades. I cant wait to start practise next week..THUNDER COMING!!!

God, I miss Lord Kitchener... now we have a set of crappy "pan tunes" to deal with (thank God for DeFosto though).

I miss both Kitch and Jit Samaroo. Unbeatable combination!

Jit always stays within the melody. Some bands goes outside with their improvisions.

This was good but the beginning of this arrangement is just too tame for me. Pan by Storm blasts the bails off dis wicket!
