I love this rendition! Maybe I'm reading something into it that isn't necessarily there, but it sure seems like Mark's facial expressions betray an intensely personal element to this song ... at some point, his "Juliet" really cut him to the quick and the only thing he can do is continue to love her "through the bars of this rhyme".

I've read somewhere that this song actually have something to it. The story was that Mark Knofler had a relationship with a member of a upcoming all-female band, and when said band became known, the woman left Knofler after using Knofler's reputation and connections as leverage in the business. Hence the lines "I dreamed your dream for you, So how can you look at me like I'm just one of your deals...."
