Was just about to head to the IMAX to see this movie. I love the story of Ibn Battuta, and IMAX has great potential for the landscapes etc... BUT... Made the mistake of watching the trailer first. It looks awful - a second-rate TV movie. Wet. What a shame! After all that effort and money...

Moreover, The people of IMAX now committing another mistake as they have deployed some freelance cameramen and directors - Unfortunately Saudis - to do some shots for their next Film "Arabia " under the pretext of normal pilgrims in a Hajj group . If they are officially allowed , why don't they just go to Mecca and shoot there under the umbrella of the Ministry Of Information as thousands of approved media do every Hajj seasons??Why do those people enter Mecca as pilgrims not as IMAX's staff?

I was about to work with IMAX as a translator through Daniel and they refused to give me any details to write a story about the film in 2008 to be published in Saudi Gazette , and if it is "Approved " as you allegedly said , how come that NON of any Saudi daily neither Arabic nor English have not published a word about this Film " I invite all of the people here to search briskly and thoroughly about any single article about this film in any Saudi papers since 2009 till now

By the way they -IMAX- team has made the shooting in an underground way.. Without a legal permission from the Saudi authorities ,namely the Ministry of Information

They did that by using some Saudi and local expats there whom they hired them to go to Makkah and take some live shots under the pretext that they are Hajis" Pilgrims" and the other faked way they use was the staff of King Abdul Aziz General Library .

The Ka'ba is not an object of worship. It is a direction, .

All muslims, 1.2 billion of them pray towards it (1 direction,signifying the oneness of God) not to it. Hope this clears the misinformation.

Then why you absolutely MUST face in that direction when you pray? In Indonesia Muslims have carpets with a built-in compass to make sure they face in the direction of Ka'ba.

No matter how you disguise it or what explanation you give it is idoltary to pray toward objects such as Ka'ba. A Greek facing statue of Athena when praying could also say "I`m not really praying to the statue but to Athena herself - the statue is just a symbol of her" . . . yet he would be committing idoltary.

If someone says they are "not really praying to the statue but to Athena herself" it means exactly what it says they mean. When trying to understand the hows and whys of another religion, running around crying "idol" "idol" does not help as it can be a rather loaded term. Most people (i.e Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Neo-Pagans) do not consider themselves to be worshiping idols so it is silly to describe them as doing such.

Perhaps you are refer to the temple built by King Solomon - but that in itself is was made by human hand and is not heaven AND was not Ka'Ba.

Muslims are idol worshippers - every time they pray they face man-made Ka'Ba. They change the definition of idol worship in order make such prayer acceptable.

But to give you credit, Catholics too can be accused of idol worship when they bow down to a statue of Marry.

Allah told him to build a house of worship and call everyone to go and worship Him there...now if u take into account that everything in this universe belongs to the Almighty Creator then it doesnt make sense to say that God´s house is heaven...

The fact that it was build by a human being is not a problem as long as you don't worship the object itself but Go alone.

And the definition od idol is a material effigy that is worshipped as a god or any being (other than the one God) to which divine honour is paid. or a representation of a person (especially in the form of sculpture)
