@egghead0 I used a sharpie on the duplicate set of 4 colors. For the roads I put lines on all four sides. For the houses and cities I drew helipads, hospital signs, and windows. Just need a marking to distinguish the pieces. I did this on the tiles and cards too for easy separation.
@Tetrsd well, Have you played the 5-6 player expansion? You can buy stuff after everyones turn..the only thing you do is roll, drop cards, and conduct trades when it's your turn...so no..not really boring at all
My brother brought it from Germany before it was available in the UK. We changed a couple of the rules. When starting, instead of first settlements being put on in the order player 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4, we changed it to players 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1, made going first less of an advantage. We discount 7's in the first round, this saved the last player having the chance of losing a "road" if he had wood and brick from one of his settlements. We play to 12 points as 10 is over too quickly. AWESOME GAME
@sdrawkcab190 Actually, my playgroup played this wrongly as well. We must have had an older ruleset or must have missed it in the fine text. The games we played were unbalanced because of that, but now I know!
This is going to make playing a whole lot better :D
Before they made the 5-6 player expansion, there was a rule set to make a peanut shaped island from two full sets. I think for a 10 player game I would have put a lake at the center of the island for more port action.
once had a variation where there's (12) 3-tile islands around one huge island. 1 village on each island (6 players). huge island had the cards turned around until you'd build along side it, so you actually had to explore it to find good land. play to 20 or so points. great fun! used 2 sets, 2 expansions and a seafaring (what's it called) expansion. 3-4 hours lol. good fun when you're on vacation with mates :)
>:| That damn thief/robber has been the bane of my existence since I started playing. One time, I had 2 cities and a settlement surrounding a lumber tile that paid off on an 8, PLUS I controlled the 2:1 lumber port. My opponents, however, saw fit to repeatedly play soldier cards, JUST to sabotage my veritable monopoly on lumber. Thank you, Settlers of Catan, for destroying my friendships.
@Faulkner8817 - You could suggest a rule that determines the recipient of the robber by some predetermined factor, other than player choice. Like for instance, victory points. It'd suck if you're in the lead, but it'd take the deviousness out of it.
Also, the larger the number of players, the more powerful the robber becomes, and I'm not just talking about the hand limit. If you're in the lead, what are the odds of getting through five (or nine!) dice rolls without being stolen from?
Did you play with a special build phase? Otherwise a crazy amount of cards would have been lost to 7 rolls. We held an in depth discussion about catan on our most recent episode of tablegamerweekly(dot)com
Just stay as true as possible for the 5-6 player game rules. So there is a special build phase before a new players turn begins, going clockwise from the last player to go.
i marked one of the sets with a sharpie. i just drew lines on every piece. so roads had a long stripe on all 4 sides, the houses on top and the cities on top.
how do you play 10 player with only 6 different colour teams

Wow! That looks really fun. But, it seems like it would take a long time to finish. My family is not that patient, unfortunately for me.

I've played a six player game on a regular board with one expansion set, although I'd like this better, 'cause there's more room.
ziwili 3 years ago
how long did the game take?
TimothyNicolle 3 years ago 6
If everyone pays attention, pretty much the same amount of time as a 6 player. Some people pick up mad resources.
discojon 3 years ago
Did you manage to finish the game, or did people chicken out after a couple of hours? :)
chicgeekuk 3 years ago 2
Yeah, everyone looked either bored or bewildered.
InvisibleWarfare 3 years ago
One question: since the settlement/road/city pieces only come in six colors, what did you use for the other four players?

jeez there must be lots of trading then..
llvllattp 4 years ago
I cant even keep 3 other people interested. However you got 10 to play is beyond me!!
endlessMN 4 years ago 2
the key to keeping people playing is the expansion set. it changes the rules so you can build after any persons turn. that keeps things happening.
discojon 4 years ago
That must speed up the game quite a bit then, how many VPs were you playing toward?
Nebagram 4 years ago
just the normal 10. and some people get landlocked and cant do too much.
