PLEASE read the description at the top before you say something nasty about this being a "fake" in self-righteous shock or horror. It wasn't supposed to be a heinous trick; it was supposed to be a funny, harmless music video. It was recorded on two separate sets of Trader Joe's bottles (bass and treble scales) in a studio, then edited using ProTools/AVID.
Nastiness aside, thanks for all the hits--looks like it will reach 30,000+ (globally!) in its first year, which I never could've imagined.
@MrMarean0 Nasty, nasty. I already informed the world that it was a "fake" before your thoughtful contribution, as you can see above; it's sometimes a good idea to read and inform yourself before you speak your mind in an inappropriate or inconsiderate way.
NOTE: THIS IS A FAKE. So-can the smug, stupid comments pointing out that it's a fake, OK? Such comments are worthless, and it should be pretty obvious that I'm lip-syncing to a studio recording I made (e.g., no microphones anywhere, nobody playing the bass line, lip-sync doesn't always match the audio). I made the video to be fun and funny, not thinking I'd be attacked by a bunch of pathetic and sometimes mean-spirited idiots playing "Gotcha!" Further note to those people: get a life.
@CaveofTwoLovers Yeah, I thought it was pretty clearly fake, and sort of funny as such, especially with the silly cuts to me playing different instruments, which most people probably don't stick around long enough to see. Whatever . . . .
@horbergus No, actually, the night before I'd been about as sick as I've ever been in my life, which is part of why I indulged myself in this silly activity. But because I'd been horrendously sick, and it was a cold day and cold in my apartment, I hadn't taken a shower or washed my hair. So I was mostly trying to hide my hair. :)
@kittenmn Congratulations on your musical accomplishments at such an early age. The video is incredibly fake, as I pointed out twice above. I intended the video to be funny, and I really didn't expect people to take it so seriously. The underlying recording was done on actual bottle flutes, though.
I just uploaded three bottle-flute versions of classic Christmas carols, in keeping with the season. They also include some classy vintage holiday art slideshows. Check them out!
I should add--I sincerely love the sound of bottle flutes. Always have. If you give me an empty bottle (or a part-full one), I will soon be blowing across the top of it to hear what it sounds like. I thought I was the only person in the world with that peculiar obsession--but I guess there are some others! :)
"Fake!" "Obviously fake!" Crikey! You sound like a bunch of 12-year-old kids who only just discovered that there's no Santa Claus. For those of you who don't live in Hollywood and aren't familiar with the entertainment industry, let me explain: ALL music videos are fakes. Even if the people are actually singing or playing while the video is being shot, the music you hear comes from probably multiple carefully edited studio recordings. So of course it's a fake, but all from real bottle flutes.
@kickbutthentication Those bottles are all from Trader Joe's nonalcoholic Sparkling Cider, but I did polish them all off myself. It is pretty obviously a fake, and that's part of why I thought it was funny, but apparently other people didn't. Oh well.
@HiRaMoB Yep--it is. As I said above twice, though after your message. I never expected people to think it wasn't. If you watch further in, where I have silly footage of myself not playing the bottle flutes at all, it's especially obvious that it's only a music video with bad lip-syncing, but apparently people didn't watch that far. My fault for making the thing too long.
@BBsing4live It looks kind of fake because it IS kind of fake, as I said twice. [See notes above.] It probably wouldn't be possible to make the recording I made outside of a studio, with editing, unless several well-drilled performers were all playing at the same time.
@ViDeOaStErMiNd I did actually do it, but in a studio, with editing, and with far more bottles, since I needed more than a chromatic octave's worth for both the treble and the bass lines. [The treble line was all done on Trader Joe's Refresher bottles, which are smaller; I used these Sparkling Cider bottles only for the bass line.] I just made the video to be funny, and instead everybody seems to have taken it seriously and feels deeply affronted that it's a "fake." So the joke's on me, I guess.
@scottdewey03 the hinderweb is full of haters, trolls, sesumarongi, and assorted types in need of a life – as you now know. Congrats on the recording. I didn't doubt your description, but you might have saved yourself some flaming (not all: it's a shoot first, ask questions later type joint), if you had told the whole truth. Better yet, some pix at the end showing the real recording setup, w/ self-deprecating explanatory graphic. But hey - fuck 'em if they can't take a joke!
@EnergyPimps You are SOOOOO right! I've learned my lesson. It was dumb to even think people with short attention spans would ever even watch far enough to see that the whole thing was just (intended to be) a funny music video. I really didn't realize how seriously people take this stuff when I started out. Anyway, thanks for your sensible comments.
