To be clear, women do not serve in ground combat units such as infantry, armor or artillery but are support troops that at times might come under indirect fire or direct attack by partisan ambush. Less than 3% of combats deaths in the 2 current wars are female- even less in previous wars. That does not diminish their sacrifices and service; however, it does diminish the courage of men who volunteer for combat units by lumping their increased danger and sacrifices in with support troops.
Are you kidding me? I was attached with a combat engineer unit and was fighting the same fights right along side those men. Going on raids, sweeping the roads for IED's, night missions to raid a compound known to harbor terrorists and weapons....don't fool yourself into thinking that women don't serve in combat capacities. In the late 60s when I was in the Navy I was almost raped--stopped by another officer & her husband who noticed my date slipping me a mickey. The male officer was court-martialed. During the trial other victims came forward. He was convicted & imprisoned.
Court martials for rape are now rare even though felons are enlisted under relaxed rules. Unlike the psychos, their unfortunate rape victims can't forgive & forget. Sandra, a lovely, bright young woman, can't. Please pass along her story!

Rape is FAMOUS in Okinawa, where the locals HATE americans? Don't you KNOW this? Over ONE MILLION Iraqi's DEAD, mostly women and children...I won't say the soldiers are EVIL but they ARE Dumb ASSES. The military is just an instrument of government. Americans either take charge or get take of by govt. I don't hide the fact that so many innocents have died because of the military, but how about the people who were saved by military people? Why are the terrorists and thugs in the Middle East not taken to task as well? And what about the innocent men who are falsely charged of perverse things and punished when they're proven innocent? I've seen and heard of both sides, think about it.

Fight? To be clear, women do not serve in ground combat units such as infantry, armor or artillery but are support troops that at times might come under indirect fire or direct attack by partisan ambush. Less than 3% of combats deaths in the 2 current wars are female- even less in previous wars. That does not diminish their sacrifices and service; however, it does diminish the courage of men who volunteer for combat units by lumping their increased danger and sacrifices in with support troops.

Are you kidding me? I was attached with a combat engineer unit and was fighting the same fights right along side those men. Going on raids, sweeping the roads for IED's, night missions to raid a compound known to harbor terrorists and weapons....don't fool yourself into thinking that women don't serve in combat capacities. You can find the DoD study by searching for "Factors Associated With Womens Risk of Rape in the Military Environment". The paper states that the legal definition of rape is used - it is nonconsensual, done under use or threat of violence, and involves completed penetration. This is different from sexual harassment and hostile environment.

I could see this being true for possibly harrassment, but still I don't know thefacts. I have women friends in the military and I have not heard from them of any problems, but who knows.

In the late 60s when I was in the Navy I was almost raped--stopped by another officer & her husband who noticed my date slipping me a mickey. The male officer was court-martialed. During the trial other victims came forward. He was convicted & imprisoned.
Court martials for rape are now rare even though felons are enlisted under relaxed rules. Unlike the psychos, their unfortunate rape victims can't forgive & forget. Sandra, a lovely, bright young woman, can't. Please pass along her story!
