here we are in 2011, and still missing him...next week, 16th dec, will be four years since his passing..let's keep his legacy and music alive on that day, and every day after that! i will be playing his songs all day on the 16th dec...peace and love to u all!
This is an illegal video. It has to have been bootlegged or taped from TV. THIS VIDEO WAS NOT, I REITERATE NOT AUTHORIZED BY DAN FOGELBERG FOR RELEASE!!!! PLEASE REMOVE IMMEDIATELY!
That was beautiful!!! I do miss this man!! He speaks volumes in just one song. All of his songs are my favorite. I am so glad that you posted this so we can always remember the man with the beautiful voice and heart touching lyrics. I will never ever stop listening to his music. I wish I could speak words as eloquently as he did. If I could, I could truly say what is in my heart when I hear his music.

Ich denke, das ist eines seiner schönsten Lieder, die ich von ihm kenne. Traumhaft schön! Den Song habe ich in den 80ger Jahren sehr oft angehört. Daran kann man sich gar nicht satt hören.... Zauberhaft!
Well richgurlie101---- Now here we are in 2010 and the Kentucky Derby is happening two days from now. I don't really care about the Derby, but it always reminds me of this song by Dan Foelberg. Loved the song when it came out. Loved Dan's 'story-telling' music. He and Harry Chapin's music, loved so very much and miss them both so very much!! Must say, my favorite song by Dan was "Leader Of The Band" makes me cry everytime I hear it, even to this day. Take Care All!!!
Thank you so much for this, tho it moved me to tears. In a rare interview w/Dan on YouTube he stated he was going to the Kentucky Derby Races & a few days before going he wrote this song. Absolutely amazing what he did~wrote~sang~performed for us~the beliefs that were good & true that he stood for~never quit commiting himself to. Most of all, he gave of himself, to his fans, until his body could give no more, actually apologizing for having to cancel his last tour. Always for me, Dan Will Shine!
Dan died December 16, 2007 from prostate cancer. He found out he had the disease in May 2004, nine months after this was filmed. I've read that he wasn't feeling well when this was filmed so he might have been ill already.
This song is special since I grew up in Western Kentucky. Now that live in Arizona, it makes me appreciate the great people of the south and also the legend this guy was. There will never be another Dan Fogelberg.
I love him! where will our country go without people like him and Jacson Browne, we must bless him in heaven and pray you go Dan !!!!!!! you ere awesome here and you are awsome now!!!!!!!!!
He'll be missed very much. Thank God that Dan helped put Peoria on the map. My parents house is one mile from his old childhood home. Peoria is very proud of you, Dan and so am I. Rest in peace.
I just lost my brother this year, about the same age. The finality of death really gets you then. Dan's songs were so "telling" in the lyrics. All the things he said, we should remember to say to our loved ones. Often, you don't get 2nd chances. We just think because they're "young", death won't happen. Since my brother was younger than me by just a couple of years, now I seem too reminded of our mortality. Tell them how much they are appreciated, etc.
Saw Dan on the Full Circle tour at the Keswick Theater outside Philly. Marvelous night. Great Concert.Bad Date. Didn't appreciate the gravitas of "30 years later"
The last time I saw Dan perform was at an ampitheater~outside where people are usually doing more partying than listening. Just Dan in a tuxedo playing his piano & singing. He captivated all! Nothing but his music was heard. What an amazing performance! He did nothing to "command" this 100% attention of all there: it was a given. Never knew this was my last ime 2 see him alive. Wish I had taken time while he was here to let him know how much he & his music always meant to me. TY for posting!
@SoothesMySoul You did show him by being there at his concert. Check out his official website and/or Living Legacy site and you'll see (if it's still posted) how amazed his was at the love shown by his fans during those last years while he fighting cancer. He knew he was loved.
.Always wanted to hear you live, never did. One on the bucket list I will not get to in this life. Thank-you for the beauty and comfort you brought into my life. If our lives are measured by the joy we bring into the lives of others, then I wish I were wearing your boots.
Who would believe that such an inspiration to my life would leave this world so fast. Rest in peace Dan knowing you'll continue to be the same inspiration for many of us through the years.
R.I.P. Dan, I imagine you are now riding Barbaro or Eight Bells through the endless rolling meadows of Heaven where there is no more pain for any of you. You have finished your course here, and now there are nothing but blue skies, green fields, and cool waters for all of eternity. I'll see you there someday, and I hope I can take your hand and thank you for comforting me so many lonely times. I thank God for your time with us, and I thank him that some day I'll hear you sing forever.
Gracias por tus palabras ten cariñosas. Te escribo desde Argentina. Yo no puedo creer que Dan haya muerto. Solo deseo que se encuentre en una eternidad luminosa. Parte de mi adolescencia se va con el.
thanks for posting this cause I never got to see him in concert. This has got to be the most genuis of songs he crafted. He was so talented as a musician, singer and songwriter and he is missed by this huge fan!
But his legacy lives on with his music and for that, Dan, I am grateful.
I grew up in Western Kentucky and when I moved away this song always seemed to make be go back home. As a child in KY you grow up with the Run for the Roses as a major state event. The song is so sweet and beautiful. It is a wonderful song for all of us but for someone from KY is hold a very special meaning in our hearts. It is Home and my childhood to me. Dan was an extraordinary artist that will be missed greatly. Dan thank you for putting your heart into your song, You will be missed!
His voice had matured here and this song was even more beautiful than the original version. Just as he was. Sad to think that the cancer was already eating away at him at the time of this recording. What a waste of talent. So many of his songs had a spiritual side to them however and I believe that Dan has run for the roses and won. As long as we have his music we will have a part of him.
I have always loved this song. I grew up in Louisville, KY listening to it on my Mom's 45 LP Record. I wish he was still around but he died Dec. 16, 2007, of prostate cancer at 56.
Thank you so much for posting this. Wish I'd seen more of his concerts. This song makes my heart swell, then the tears. Happy, sad and more appreciative of life.
I used to sing this to my daughter... she's now 26... and I still believe that this song is about her... "it's breeding, and it's training, and it's something unknown - that drives you and carries you on"...
I missed the show, is there any way to order the program? I searched PBS shop and could not find the dvd recording of Dan's on stage performance. please help.
Like you JMEagle101, many of Dan's fans would love to own this video. For some reason, Soundstage has not released it for DVD sale at this time. Perhaps if they get enough requests from the fans they will reconsider. I'm hoping with you!
It's good to see the rest of the band with Dan on this stage. They also backed him from Greeting from the West tour. It's to sad, that Mike Botts, Dan's drummer for many of his tours, died in Dec. 2005 from colon cancer. This concert is going to air this weekend on Soundstage/PBS. Check your local listings for airdates and times.
