Republicans are almost 100% against health care because they will no more get bonus from the private health care industry. They want their paychecks and therefore act like fool if needed... shouting "you lie", "I object", etc... non stop to try to make idiot Americans believe they are on their side. But we are not that dumb anymore thx to the internet... well I hope we are not. The senators have debated health care for way too long, while the US is far from having a decent system
what? Republicans don't want competition via creation of more government (public option). Republicans want more competition by allowing private insurance companies to sell plans across state lines in a national marketplace.
The US has a very decent system and our health innovation leads the rest of the world.
You are totally wrong. We have the most expensive system in the world not because it is great but because it sucks. And now the new system is even worse. From what I gather so far, we all required to get health insurance, but the health company can charge us any amount and deny us too even if we are insured. It is getting worse... not better. We are 37th in health care btw... we are NOT leading and never had been.
We surely do lead the health care industry in terms of innovation. Maybe the best way to lower costs would be to get rid of government imposed restrictions on selling plans across state lines. The way it is now, governmental intervention is raising prices by stifling competition. Also, we have gov oversight to prevent fraudulent denial of claims. You have to understand that some claims are denied b/c patients try to fraud the insurance companies by waiting until they are sick to buy insurance.
Being the #1 country in cost is consider innovation? How is that supposed to be good? I like the republican idea of getting rid of the STATE regulation for selling plans across states line, with a one system health care system.
While you seem to dislike the government, I look at the healthcare like the police/fireman. They are services that we all need. The police/fireman used to be private companies but now I can go to any station if I need help. The same should be done for the hospitals.
We are #1 in innovation in terms of new procedures/drugs/instruments. Maybe sometime we can have a discussion about the vast innovative drug industry of gov't run Cuba and North Korea.
The big problem is cost containment and having one government provider does not contain costs because there is no competition. Competition through private companies run by independent citizens is the way to bring down costs.
That's really good that we are good in one particular domain, research, but I was talking since the beginning about our health care system (i.e. hospital).
If you are talking about selling drugs, all I see is large companies (i.e. costco, wallgreen) selling drugs too. Independent citizens have no chance in business as they need to buy large quantity to lower the cost. In short, we are going into monopolization.
Its not selling drugs thats the issue, its developing drugs. Wlamart and costco do not develop new drugs, they resell drugs that are developed by Pfizer, Lilly, etc. Its the drug companies' innovations with respect to the development on new drugs that America leads the world in. Many small businessmen can start up companies and develop new drugs. Happens all the time. And then usually the small businessman sells his business for 100's of millions of dollars.
Many independent people do not have sufficient capital to start a business on their own which is why people issue bonds and stock to investors. With fresh capital, the business can run smoothly.
I hear you point of view: US is good at discovering new drugs, and too costly when developing drugs. And if I get you right, you think that drugs will decrease the cost of hospital.
But my original point was about hospital fees not medication. Even if you go to the hospital, you don't pay just for medication, and I think that fee system is horrible and need to be fixed... which is what democrats are trying to fix... but they failed imo.
Not really. The US is good at discovering new drugs because the private market provides an environment where large profits can be made and this fuels further drug development.
Well the capitation system used to be used, but realize it has its own set of problems. Capitation will mainly lead to less care as doctors try not to spend all of their alloted money per patient. This could help trim excesses, but could also lead to too little care delivered.
I don''t think there has ever been more division caused by any party more than the Democrats at this point. You may want to amend that statement Gibbs.
Is that the best question a reporter can ask?? Good lord where are the journalists going to school now? What a sad state of affairs for the numb media dolts.
this doesnt appear to be a desperate speach to me. Hes just saying that a lot of people make unjust and disturbing comparisons, I dont see how that could come across as desperate?
It seems desperate to me when the White House focuses on criticism. That is a smoke screen for the issues. The issue is, a lot of people, businesses, and organizations do not like the health care proposal. Why are we talking about mustaches on posters? Bush was likened to Hitler more than once. He just kept on plugging along. I'm not saying that made him a model. But he did recognize the people's right to protest. Our president spends too much time discussing his critics.
Bush didn't have the other party comparing him to Hitler(and a number of other less desirables) literally every day.
But to say that Obama's administration focuses on criticism is simply disingenuous. Relatively speaking, they've said very little(and in this particular case, were simply responding to a reporter's question), and they'd probably spend even less time on it if-to use your smoke analogy-the Republicans weren't stoking the fire all the while.
Let's try not suggest that Bush received less criticism. Let's agree that both Bush and Obama received criticism and both men, and the press secretaries, treated it differently.
Republicans have jumped on the band wagon recently. Early "tea-parties", however, have had grassroots uprisings.
Obama has been critical on Fox news, "fringe" groups, and accused the Republicans of obstruction. Gibbs has even used commentators by name (Limbaugh, Beck, and Santelli). This is OK?
P.S. "The issue is, (more) people, businesses, and organizations (do) like the health care proposal." according to an absolute majority of polls over the last year.
God that was lame. This guy needs to be replaced. I mean he stammered and stuttered and just barely stayed coherent. He should have knocked that one out of the park. What happened to the Obama administration "calling them out" on stuff? Anyway, Gibbs needs to go now. He might be good at preparing press briefings but he does not come off well when he´s forced to think on his feet. They need to fix this.
American people don't need any more taxes, all these health care reform and climate change bill is gonna increase the burden onto the ordinary Americans.
gibbs cant lie his way out of a wet paper bag.. never thought i could hate anyone worse than Bush, but Obama already got him beat :( America is fucked

This is hilarious. Gibbs seems to have forgotten how Bush was treated for 8 years. And, yes, this health care takeover would be a grave threat to our freedom by the very fact of having the gubmint take over one sixth of the economy.
Really Boehner...HEALTH CARE REFORM is the biggest threat to American freedom? Not Al Qaida or domestic terrorists? Or are they just not threats for this upcoming election year? LOL. The GOP sucks.

@94fordtaurus because of the communist muslim in the outhouse , we can't say ally queda or domestic terrorist , unless we are talking about good men and women of the armed forces,Our allies or Christians and Catholics.
how can liberals be so fucking blind and stupid ...liberalism is a mental disorder and a direct threat to liberty and freedoms.
you my friend are a moron. You have no proof for your "communist muslim" claims yet you keep repeating them hoping we sane people come along. You are the one with the mental issues.
This muslim stuff is silly. Even if he was muslim so what! I mean really... all that should matter is that he is American and he obeys the law. As long as he obeys the law what s the problem? All muslims everywhere for all time are to be punished and discriminated agaisnt for all time? They are good enough to pay taxes and die in our wars but cant be our leaders? This is getting silly. we should be careful who we discriminate agaisnt or the next time a group of people will be looking at u.
Gibbs, the master of deflection for the White House. As for pictures of socialist or communists leaders or comparisons to individuals in our government, that has been going on for 50 years. Where the hell has Gibbs been?
these radical communists and this enabler are truly barbarian animals and should be drawn and quartered and dragged through the public square for the horrors that they are inflicting on the populace
He has to have a lot of self-discipline not to say what he really thinks about the lies and ugliness of it all. But I think he's playing it right - nothing would please these lying dog Republicans more than to divert the attention away from the real issues by having the WH Press Secretary attack them.
Oh for fuck sakes, Gibbs! Just spit it the fuck out and stop mincing your words. THESE REPUBLICANS ARE USING HORRIBLE LIES AND FEAR-MONGERING TO DUPE AMERICANS OUT OF COMPETITIVELY PRICED HEALTHCARE. They're lying to serve relevant industries and to protect the lie that government can NEVER accomplish anything, excluding military, over-policing, and holding down gay people.
Of course, I'm asking WAY too much given the BigMoney-BigMedia-Government complexes, where true bipartisanship exists.
I used to have some respect for the Republican party, but the Teabaggers's tactics, using lies and fear/hate mongering, has destroyed that.. I was happy to see the Teabaggers defeated in the New York congressional race. Lies and distortions, hate, fear, and racism will not fly with the average American . We're too good a country to allow the Teabagging crowd to take over.
@DixieDale (translation) I used to have respect for Democrat-Light party, but the teabaggers tactics, bringing up quotes of the "Public Option's" proponents, bringing up the MASSIVE cuts for medicaid. I was happy to see a 3rd party come within 4 points of victory in 30 days in New york. Facts and Quotes will not fly with the average American. We're too naive a country to see the stimulus/TARP was a money grab and Cap & trade will ruin us OR to allow Goldman Sachs and JPMC to NOT take over.
I listed terrorists among other things. He launched his political career in a terrorists home. He would be no where without deep Chicago Communist Party ties. He spent 20 years in an anti-Semitic, anti-American, racist, conspiracy theorist church. Gibbs? I think you mean Gates, genius. Rham and Geithner represent the Right? HAha, clearly you're insane or being sarcastic.
Radicals: Holdren, Van Jones, Anita Dunn, Mark Lloyd ... I'm running out of characters in this box, but you get point
i think it's outrageous that boner is comparing healthcare to the greatist threat to freedom ever. it's the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. and what makes it more fucked up is he's probably serious....
We also had 8 years of unwarranted surveillance. Wasn't that a threat to our freedom?
Obama isn't a socialist by the way, he's a freaking conservative capitalist. He probably won't repeal the Patriot Act, DOMA, DADT, he's really not doing anything to support the Public Option, he won't close Gitmo despite what he said and it sure doesn't look like he's willing to get us out of Iraq and Afghanistan. How is he different from Bush?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Short memory there Gibby? We endured 8 years of "Bushitler" attacks. I would bet money that there were 10 times the amount of signs, t-shirts, etc. depicting Bush as and comparing him to Hitler. Now we actually have a government trying to take over anything it can get it's hands on, silence descent, hiring population control radicals, socialists, and any other kind of radical you can think of.... and it's just outrageous to see these signs?
protests against Bush never got the coverage or legitimacy that the tea party crowd has.
besides that... you just said yourself people were going "bushitler" and making T-shirts, signs, all sorts of awful things. and you notice that 8 years went by and America is still the same. those people were overreacting.
Now think of the tea party crowd. OBAMACARE IS SOCIALISM. HE'S LIKE HITLER. POPULATION CONTROL. SILENCE DISSENT.
the tea partiers are overreacting 10x as much as the anti-bush folks
You may not like it, but these things are happening and Obama HAS (FACT!) surrounded himself for his entire life with communists, socialists, terrorists, anti-free market radicals, population control advocates, etc. etc.
And the anti-Bush protests got plenty of coverage. In fact they got way more than they should have. The tea party types total in the millions and are just regular folks. Not douchey college kid anarchists and communists wearing scarfs over their faces.
You just demonstrated how much of a sharp partisan you are.
people against Bush were "douchey college kid anarchists and communists wearing scarfs over their faces", but people against Obama are "regular folks"? double standards!
You kind of sound like you're intoxicated with anti-Obama fervor. try and read some non-partisan news sources for a change, you'll see things aren't as they seem.
Take it from someone who grew up extremely anti-bush. you're overreacting. a lot!
Stating a fact makes me sharp partisan? I strongly suggest you search for conservative protest footage and compare it with liberal protest footage. When was the last time you saw a conservative protest explode in to a festival of destroying public and private property while disguising their identities? When was the last time you saw conservatives attack police at a protest? I could go on, but I think you get the point (but will totally dismiss it.)
I'm not a rapid Obama supporter, so please stop being so aggressive/defensive with me. Is this how you hope to win support for your cause?
with EVERY protest there are good peaceful people and a few crazy types. that's natural.
I read conservative and liberal news. There's good and bad on both sides. one thing you can be sure of: If you're getting info from just one side, you're being PLAYED!
If you learn about all sides and all angles of an issue, you'd get a more well rounded opinion!
haha, you accuse me of being defenseive... right after denying being an Obama supporter (Something I never accused you of).
That said, you're clearly a lib because A) You've come here to divert attention away from the stupidity of Gibbs comments which pretend there was never a "Bushitler" industry. You people exist to distract. But B) Your most recent reply didn't address my overall point. You just generalized "EVERY" protest, even though I gave you specific examples that happen regularly.
the way you come on SO strongly against the Obama admin and the strong criticisms you're giving gave me the impression you thought you believed you were talking to Obama kool-aid drinker, I'm sorry.
However,
you say i exist to distract, yet all i was doing was adding a dissenting reply to your distracting comment. so we're really the same. you exist to distract as well.
i didn't address it because 1) i don't have enough room 2) i really didn't think we'd get anywhere trying to debate it (cnt)
because it seems like you have some very sharp opinions and will likely not be swayed by or even consider my opinion.
I went through a uber fiscal conservative, anti-Obama phase for a few months. I kept reading into different sources, and i kept coming to the conclusion that although Obama isn't as good many think, he isn't as bad as his critics portray him. Thus my stance now. He's not perfect. But he's not an evil radical either. that's my view. you have yours. let's agree to disagree!
I agree with you whole heartedly about our President....I'd grade him just like I did Clinton...a solid C. The problems we have are larger than we can take on as long as we are as divided as we are. Health Care Reform? We need it. Period. I don't need to listen to the crap from either side, either. We need to look to countries that do it better than we do it, copy that model and improve on it. Why is that difficult? *gasp* You mean other countries do things better than America? Yup!!!
Wow....just wow! I'm an idiot for suggesting that we look for other viable sources that are providing health care to a populace better than we are? I'm a sheep for suggesting that we work together to solve a national problem? I'm brainwashed for thinking on my own without paying attention to propoganda? I believe your response to my post speaks for itself. The fact that you can type makes you no less irrelavant.
@wantwit Well...as I see it, we have problems with health care, a national balance sheet that is a true nightmare, issues with energy, national infrastructure that is too-long overlooked, a populace that has been dumbed down and morally inferior to previous generations, and a political and popular culture that feeds off of these problems rather than than a political and popular culture designed to solve them.
We? There is no WE. There is you and I. Perhaps you have a problem with your health care. I do not. I agree that Americans are stupid and lazy but so what? This is the end result of the liberal progressive agenda. An economically illiterate underclass, defendant on entitlements taken from the productive at the point of a gun.
cite an example (Btw, you reveal what a retarded liberal you are by assuming cops are "conservatives", just so you people, as always, can play victim)
Conservatives don't attack police at protests....they do it singly because they fear that someone is coming to take away their guns. White Supremicists are basely conservative and I wouldn't exactly call that peaceful. asphyxiafeeling is making some great points here from a neutral position. Pay attention.
Actually liberals are the biggest racists around. That is why they want government programs based on race. Because they view non-whites as pets that are far too stupid to ever compete on their own without the benevolent hand of a white liberal there to help them and tell them what to think and how to vote. Minorities who become successful outside of traditional liberal power structures are called uncle tom, or house negro and minimized at every turn by...you guessed...the left.
republicans stood proudly with and openly supported these lunatics....who decide to show up with giant signs of dead holocaust victims at dachau....and depicting the president as a nazi , hitler...and a terrorist.....republicans can no longer disassociate themselves with that imagery...and hateful message....they...and their corporate allies are directly responsible for this new climate of hate....and will be responsible for the inevitable violence that will follow.....they are the enemy
yeah. that plus 52% of all Americans and 85% of people living in the rest of the developed world. And Warren Buffet, Colin Powell, Michael Bloomberg, etc.
stats from the Republican National Convention verify that there were less than 2% non-white people in attendance, less than 5% below the age of 40.
"anyone notice how Tea Partiers all seem to be old, overweight, white people?"
No, I don't notice that. I notice that people who say this are not looking at any other pictures other than what the leftist media shows. There is plenty of proof of otherwise.....right here on youtube too.
Not trying to be an ass...hope you don't take it that way. have a good day.
The world dislikes neo-conservative Americans. What the world might not understand is that the rest of Americans hate the neo-cons with intense passion. If you're angry with america just multiply that by 100 and you might understand how we feel. We've been taken over by fundamentalist christians. And I don't see a light at the end of this dark tunnel.
Gibbs, move on dude. the tone for protesting was set long before Obama or Bush, its how Americans act when they don't like someone. its par for the course, far from anything new.
What the fuck are you talking about? When have the crazies represented in this high of volume?
Oh
That's right
We have a black president now, it all makes sense. Fuck the idiot, redneck, uneducated dipshits in our world that perpetuate bullshit like this on a neverending cycle.
it has nothing to do with obama, it has nothing to do with bush, its how americans are, its beyond partisan, its beyond reason. americans wouldn't understand the whole story if it fell pon there face and kissed them hello
the 2010 ads are writing themselves. All the Democrats have to do is show footage of teabaggers with their Hitler signs and signs comparing health care reform to Nazi death camps, with stacks of bodies of the jewish dead, and then show Boehner and the rest of the GOP House leadership addressing this rabble saying "Yeah this is awesome I'm so honored to be addressing you and I support you 100%"
Because really, you look at the last 4 months, and the rhetoric from the right, the fear mongering.
that would have given too much credibility to the very small turnout on the capitol and would have encouraged more media time to be given to this "debate"
don't underestimate how complicated the job of running an administration is, especially Gibbs' job. the last thing we need to do is give those silly, childish Tea Partiers another soundbite.
While I could stand a bit more over the top agro from the Obama team I get that Gibbs has to be a bit more careful of what he says. Think of the red meat effect over on Fox and with Rush and his acolytes if Gibbs started laying it on the line agin the sleazoids in Congress and the "real Americans" in the teabagging parties.
Hitler moustache on someone starting an illegal imperialist war in Iraq against a nation that had not attacked us is a little more understandable than Hitler moustache in a president trying to provide health care for all the citizens of The United States of America - but , though I am liberal, I agree there's a double standard and liberals should shut up -
"Imagine five years ago, someone walked around with pictures of Hitler."
They did. There were pictures of Bush with a Hitler mustache. And I wasn't against people waving those signs around.
But I am against people having a double standard and saying putting a mustache on a picture of Obama is "racist", or forgetting that people did photoshop Bush's face into a picture of Bin Laden.
Let see Bush Invaded random countries (Iraq) and destroy your liberties, kinda like Hittler. Obama just wants affordable health care so people live and don't die or wont go broke. yeah big fucking stretch there buddy.
Maybe you are right and I took it to far but the fact that he bent laws to be able to get away with his wire taping on all Americans is defenatly something which resembles what Hittler was doing to his people. granted Obama did not change the laws but the fact is that this people are compeering him to Hittler because he wants to use our tax money on actually that helps us is very fucking retarded. At least what Bush did match the pictures. Obama as the Joker ( Anarchist)??? WTF?
gallomex, And which Senator who became President last year voted in 2005 to re-authorize the Patriot Act and voted in 2008 to give immunity to the phone companies who actually did wiretap?
Also, I don't think the sole reason is health care.
Well lets see I didn't start seeing Bush in this type of pictures around the end of the first year the war started. I Began seeing Obama in this type of pictures a year before he became president, you are right is not only about Health Care is about conservatives and republicans getting even and ignorance of history or sense of how to use imagery to demonstrate their inter racism.
gallomex13, What, specifically, is racist about putting a mustache on a picture?
Also, "If Benito Mussolini were a Democrat running for president of the United States against Adolf Hitler, a Republican, who would you vote for... assuming that Ralph Nader was the Green Party candidate?"
"Lesser Of 2 Evils Is Still Evil", October 17, 2000
Putting a mustache picture is not the racist part the racist part is not liking a individual because of their race which is the reason this teabagers dislike Obama, if not tell me where were they when Bush wasting money left and right with no real help for the American people?
I wish I could pull all the comments I have received from thousands of teabagers and anti Obama people but I can't, but you are welcome to search all over YouTube and i will assure you, that you will find the racism I talk about in almost every Obama video out there and if you ciick on ther channel ussually they will have under their favorites a Gelnn Beck, Tea Bagger Video but since this is not court and you dont have to believe me I wont stress my self to bring you evidence that is everywhere.
and if you are talking abouyt the Mix Palestinian guy who supposedly was the son of God well he was a socialist and he would be on the side if free health care actually.
"The actions of these people are so laughable how can we hope to take them seriously and think they may actually have some serious input to this discussion. language like that is sad and pathetic and belongs in a school yard not in congress."
But dems are pussies and the the presidents white house is pathetic.
I understand where you are comming from but there are some times when you have to strike back and take action. Like for health care for example. The white house hasn't been strong on health care reform at all. We all rememeber that long Obama ad last year about how health care was his focus now we have white house staffers going for a trigger which is just like saying "hey lets wait 5 years and start this debate all over again"
Its not throwing mud its taking a stand on key issues.
When he paused I was so hoping he wouldn't say "disagreeable".
"Disagreeable" is way too soft of a word for what the repubs are doing. They are trying to demonize anything the dems/Obama do with comparisons to Hitler, and these outlandish claims that Obama is the greatest threat to our freedoms.
You'd think with all the talk the repubs have of the founding fathers they would remember some far greater threats.

What happened to the Obama administration "calling them out" on stuff? Anyway, Gibbs needs to go now. He might be good at preparing press briefings but he does not come off well when he´s forced to think on his feet. They need to fix this.

I agree. Gibbs seems at times to be in over his head. His is a key position in the administration and he's dropping the ball.
I hereby nominate Rachel Maddow for the job. Now that would be fun to watch.

I used to have some respect for the Republican party, but the Teabaggers's tactics, using lies and fear/hate mongering, has destroyed that.. Short memory there Gibby? We endured 8 years of "Bushitler" attacks. I would bet money that there were 10 times the amount of signs, t-shirts, etc. depicting Bush as and comparing him to Hitler. Now we actually have a government trying to take over anything it can get it's hands on, silence descent, hiring population control radicals, socialists, and any other kind of radical you can think of.... and it's just outrageous to see these signs?
rabair 2 years ago
protests against Bush never got the coverage or legitimacy that the tea party crowd has.
besides that... you just said yourself people were going "bushitler" and making T-shirts, signs, all sorts of awful things. and you notice that 8 years went by and America is still the same. those people were overreacting.
Now think of the tea party crowd. OBAMACARE IS SOCIALISM. HE'S LIKE HITLER. POPULATION CONTROL. SILENCE DISSENT.
the tea partiers are overreacting 10x as much as the anti-bush folks
asphyxiafeeling 2 years ago 3
You may not like it, but these things are happening and Obama HAS (FACT!) surrounded himself for his entire life with communists, socialists, terrorists, anti-free market radicals, population control advocates, etc. etc.
And the anti-Bush protests got plenty of coverage. In fact they got way more than they should have. The tea party types total in the millions and are just regular folks. Not douchey college kid anarchists and communists wearing scarfs over their faces.
rabair 2 years ago
You just demonstrated how much of a sharp partisan you are.
people against Bush were "douchey college kid anarchists and communists wearing scarfs over their faces", but people against Obama are "regular folks"? double standards!
You kind of sound like you're intoxicated with anti-Obama fervor. try and read some non-partisan news sources for a change, you'll see things aren't as they seem.
Take it from someone who grew up extremely anti-bush. you're overreacting. a lot!
asphyxiafeeling 2 years ago
Stating a fact makes me sharp partisan? I strongly suggest you search for conservative protest footage and compare it with liberal protest footage. When was the last time you saw a conservative protest explode in to a festival of destroying public and private property while disguising their identities? When was the last time you saw conservatives attack police at a protest? I could go on, but I think you get the point (but will totally dismiss it.)
rabair 2 years ago
I'm not a rapid Obama supporter, so please stop being so aggressive/defensive with me. Is this how you hope to win support for your cause?
with EVERY protest there are good peaceful people and a few crazy types. that's natural.
I read conservative and liberal news. There's good and bad on both sides. one thing you can be sure of: If you're getting info from just one side, you're being PLAYED!
If you learn about all sides and all angles of an issue, you'd get a more well rounded opinion!

Hitler moustache on someone starting an illegal imperialist war in Iraq against a nation that had not attacked us is a little more understandable than Hitler moustache in a president trying to provide health care for all the citizens of The United States of America - but , though I am liberal, I agree there's a double standard and liberals should shut up -
davis80smusic 2 years ago 5
"Imagine five years ago, someone walked around with pictures of Hitler."
They did. There were pictures of Bush with a Hitler mustache. And I wasn't against people waving those signs around.
But I am against people having a double standard and saying putting a mustache on a picture of Obama is "racist", or forgetting that people did photoshop Bush's face into a picture of Bin Laden.

MooseOfReason 2 years ago
Maybe you are right and I took it to far but the fact that he bent laws to be able to get away with his wire taping on all Americans is defenatly something which resembles what Hittler was doing to his people. granted Obama did not change the laws but the fact is that this people are compeering him to Hittler because he wants to use our tax money on actually that helps us is very fucking retarded. At least what Bush did match the pictures. Obama as the Joker ( Anarchist)??? WTF?

Well lets see I didn't start seeing Bush in this type of pictures around the end of the first year the war started. You'd think with all the talk the repubs have of the founding fathers they would remember some far greater threats.
