Reading with interest some comments of the viewers and would like to respond to some questions. The whistle used on 3001 and all L-2,3 and 4 class Mohawks was a 5 chime whistle. It would be difficult to install on 765 becouse of its valve and handle configuration. Restoring 3001 would be a tremendous undertaking. Smoke box floor rusted through. Needs new front flue sheet. All driver tires are badly worn. Archimedes screw is cut in half. No grates, grate shakers or ashpan. 2933 is a better bet.
@HaloCE14 Well, 60 days have come and gone and it lools like it was just wishful thinking by a museum member that 3001 was being pulled out to be restored. I went by the museum today and the 3001 is still there. No rolling stock has been moved out of the way too. If there are any changes I'll let you know.
Thanks, let me know what comes up with what you find out about 3001......I agree that there is doubt in someone running her but we can wish it is true.......If she did ran though her tickets would sell faster than C&O #614's tickets in the 90's......post anything you find out....got to ask though what kind of camera are you using as I am looking for a new one myself....thanks
@HaloCE14 Uh, no. The tender behinde 3001 is her tender. It does not look right because the Texas RR museum cut the sides off to try to make it look like an oil burner. The second tender was the auxiliary tender used on the "Chessie Steam Specials" pulled by Reading 2101. I believe that it is an NYC mohawk tender also,
@Kleman09 Hey, that's a go question. Maybe someone out there can tell us. I will also check into that. I have been there when they run air to the E8 and the 3001 Mohawk and you can blow the horn & whistle.
@switchstand ok, i was thinking about the possibility of her whistle on 765. It would be cool to hear 3001 speak from 765. Might cost about $200 to put it on the fireman's side, but it would be worth it.
@Kleman09 I don't know if they even have the 3001's real whistle. It sat in a junk yard when NYC dropped her from the line. Then later moved to Texas where she lost her smoke deflecters and its coal bunk sidewalls, to try and make it pass as a T&P steamer.
@Weiberts Elkhart is in far northern Indiana, like about 10 miles south of the Michigan line. Interstate 80/90 runs over the north part of Elkhart. Also about 25 miles east of South Bend. Are the Catskills in Ky?

How far is this from Catskill? I'm going to Catskill this July and if it's nearby, I may go.
