I just love that FC9. I'd be kissing that book all day long if I had it. I missed out a nice one on Heritage last year. Hopefully that run will pop up again and I can get my hands on a nice presentable mid grade. Also, regarding restoration I agree. Years ago collectors looked at restoration differently but most of those books that were restored back then have lost value. Same can be said for rare watches. I have a rare rolex red submariner from 73 that I wont restore as it will lose its value.
He mentioned he dosn`t collect restored comics thats a shame even if a key issue like Action #1 or Superman #1 was for sale and restored from a poor copy to now readable is no different then restoring a corvette if it was in the junk yard. This is where you preserve history and not keeping it from disintagrating.
Not true. In the collectibles world, restoration can be good or bad depending on what we're talking about. Take a rare, valuable coin and clean it and see what happens to the value. Take a rare vintage gun with some rust on it and clean it and re-stain the handle/stock and watch what happens.....ooopps! Take a rare, valuable piece of furniture and re-stain it and watch it's value go down by half or more. On the other end, restoring a '67 427 'vette is good. Vintage jukebox=good etc.
@86celtics Restoring a coverless Action #1 and Superman #1 is the right thing to do plain and simple..I have a Superman #1 to restore cause its a 0.5 copy and to not have it restored would be a crime as to not have it turn to dust as the yrs go by.
Since this house is in walking distance to the beach ( the main reason I bought it ), I think I'll stay. The next time I make a major real estate transaction I will consult with u first.
Whith the old stuff resto is very common. Restoration can be but isn't limited to: color touch, trimming along the edges to give the appearance of sharp edges and corners, pieces added, cleaning, staples cleaned/replaced, etc, etc. If resto is detected, the work performed will be noted on the CGC label which will be purple.
Perhaps if you ever "prosper", then you can set an example to which people will admire as opposed to being the bitter, lonely person you no doubt are. In the meantime, I'm gonna continue being "pathetic" ( because I can), while you continue watching ( I know you will ).
I stand corrected. He has some fantastic stuff that I would love to have, but yours is high grade and nothing to sneeze at ether. It's a close one to call if you ask me.
I find it a paradox. On the one hand the cases protect the comic and its value and authenticate the grade but they also make it imposible to see, read and appreciate the comic.
i was thinking to my self on the future of comics, and thought digital formats to come will never replace the feeling of cradling a comic on one hand and flipping the pages with the other. that is the act of keeping Comic Books. that CGC will freeze it! for Good or for Bad!
thanks 4 the warning 86 im trying to sell 8000 old readers in 1 go avengers etc ive felt obliged to sort em out cos there like worth something to sombody plus the arts so good
Have you ever just wanted to crack open those cases and read those stories. I know if I had those old issues I'd want to read all those original stories.
My brother feels the same way and hates slabbed comics. Yes I would like to be able to read these classics, especially the WWII era issues with war themed stories. I've currently read 2 books in my collection, a lower grade copy of four color #178 mainly to see the uncle scrooge story and a re-print copy of four color #386. However, the dollar element keeps 'em in the cases.
Carl barks was with the Disney cartoons being first an inbetweener then an ideaman in the duck-department. Thanks for sharing this great issue - gosh it's in nice condition... Holy grale, that is true.
Never mind the DickLick person below - some people can't understand why we like comic books...

Dude.. How old are you? 45? You have a Spiderman bed spread. Your mom pack your lunch and make your bed? Ever see a woman naked? You have to get your jollies by showing off? Little insecure. Kissing your books? God knows what else you do to them.
Yes Mr. DickLicker I get my jollies by showing off my collection of books you could probably never afford. You make references to my sex life but call yourself "DickLick". Hmmmm.
Wow, I can't believe you got an original copy of Donald Duck Finds Pirate, and in such great condition. I bet it must've cost you a small fortune! Anyway, great video once again, it was really nice to see on video a real copy of the first Carl Barks comic ever. I've added this video to my favorites!
Did you just kiss your comic??? You need some alone time with your comic!

I think I know the guy who bought your 7.0 Bats 6 (from the CGC boards). I bought the restored 7.0 he was replacing.
Also, that is definitely a beautiful Pirate Gold issue. Who knew back then it'd eventually be worth more than its weight in gold? :)

How much money did you spend total for your comic books? Including the cost of CGC grading
