Seems like a lot to go through to just get the trains to go 125mph tops like the Northeast Corridor does regularly with regional trains. It should be able to go faster and exceed what we have here in the East. Not just look pretty. With ATS the new Caltrain electric DMU's should be able to go 100mph, they need to do more, the train looks like a Eurostar/TGV style bullet train but goes no faster than a Northeast Regional with a AEM-7 or HHP-8 & 30 yr old amfleets. Just put Acela's on the line!
@EAFSQ9 well that's a lot better speed, i wonder if it will be allowed to pass, it seems a lot of the communities are trying to not comply or want to slow down the speeds so that the HSR trains have to share tracks with commuter trains. I think they should just follow the demonstration showed above. It's just beautiful, and it the elevated stations are beautiful not eyesores or obstructions. I think the communities on the SF peninsula don't want HSR b/c it won't stop in their communities.

The train is a better option then air travel! Air travel has become a slug in the transportation world. Trains can do cargo and freight cheaper and faster then any other means.I hate the heavy handed security at airports.

@S10stev yesterday, Arnald S went to Japan and took a ride on the Shinkansen N700 and he's going to South Korea and ride their HSR and then go to China, and he's getting Bids for the Rail and Trainset as well, not only help to build the project but Japan offers loans of $40 Billion. so they'll help finance as well.

@S10stev its the people of Palo Alto that are fighting to sue this project, If they have to, they'll just end the line in San Jose instead of having the HSR go all the way to San Fransisco, it would go from L.A. to San Jose, and people would have to make connection with the Caltrain, San Fransisco is only 54 Miles away from San Jose, and it will only take 56 minuts by Baby bullet express, and there no reason to have the train travel very fast when its only 54 miles apart.

@EpiDemic117 thats one of the problem but the structures that they hate is the elevated tracks, not only it noisy, but the elevated structures invade the resident privacy, because on the elevated tracks you can see some one backyard from the train and people might be swimming naked in their backyard which they wouldn't be happy if the passenger on the HSR see their backyard.

@Surcouf1789 Neither from the majority of the CGI content, most of the rolling stock depicted are TGVs. There are some 700 Series Shinkansen trains, one can be seen in the intro from its unique nose. Likihood is though that the TGV will be out of production by the time rolling stock is purchased for this project, so the effective substitute is the more modern AGV that is its intended successor.

@Surcouf1789 At this point, for the Californian project at least, most of the work is in the hands of private investors to raise finance to build the project. The State and Federal government are going to be trying to give it a kickstart, but if the financial sector and the individual doesn't step up the project is doomed to fail. If this project works to plan, we could see this running by 2015, however that is extremely unlikely unless civil engineering work starts later this year.
we don't have the money for this now, or maybe never. this project has been shuffled back behind other things that were proposed and planned. it's a shame, because prop.1 actually passed to get this going. but one thing for sure, we do have money to expand LAX and it is pushing through. hopefully they finally connect the green line right through the airport terminal itself like SFO international airprot.

From 2001 to 2009, we do not have money to build high speed rail, but we have money to fight a war in Iraq. It is better to spend money on other country instead of our own.
Well, last November, voters approved a $9.95 billion bond issue to help fund the project. The state also plans to win a large chunk of HSR stimulus dollars and also will be 1/3 privately funded. The first phase (Anaheim-SF) is scheduled for completion in 2018. Although, we may see some sections such as Anaheim to Los Angeles completed before that date.

There is little support from the central valley for this project, not only for the land issue but because we have no need in the central valley to travel back and forth to SF and LA. All it will do is bring people from those areas into the valley where housing is half as much and it will raise housing for the rest of us.

Its California that should adopt the Shinkansen, but the rest of the states, they could go with TGV, Ice, Bombardier, or other type of high speed train.
As a Californian, I can tell you that I feel proud to see my home state moving forward.
I lived in Japan for over 8 years. It was great not depending on a car. The high speed trains and the local lines would take just about anywhere. Now back home, the cost of gas, insurance, parking space and maintenance of my car gives me a headache.
I hope this just the start of many other high peed rail services for California and the whole USA.
You can have express, limited, and normal service. In Japan, Tokyo and Osaka is 320 mi apart, which is around the same distance between LA and SF.
There are 15 stations between Tokyo and Osaka. Express trains (Nozomi) only stop at 4 of them so it only take a little less than 2.5 hrs for the entire 320 mi trip. Limited trains (Hikari) stops at 12 stations and still manages to complete the trip in 3 hrs. And the normal train (Kodama) stops at all 15, but still gets the trip done in 3.5 hrs.
HSR = cleaner environment (since HSR power from either electric or disel or electric/disel hybrid), and safer travel (I couldn't find any accidnet regarding HSR system around the world...)

@Surcouf1789 Neither from the majority of the CGI content, most of the rolling stock depicted are TGVs. There are some 700 Series Shinkansen trains, one can be seen in the intro from its unique nose. Likihood is though that the TGV will be out of production by the time rolling stock is purchased for this project, so the effective substitute is the more modern AGV that is its intended successor.

Thanks for your reply. Do you think there is any chance that high-speed railroad tracks could be built before 2020? I'm surprised by the video footages you put on line as, historically, authorities influenced by lobby groups (car manufacturers, oil companies and airlines) always refused to pay for High Speed railway connections, wherever they were located in the US.
AGV would be a good vector for high speed connections.

@Surcouf1789 At this point, for the Californian project at least, most of the work is in the hands of private investors to raise finance to build the project. The State and Federal government are going to be trying to give it a kickstart, but if the financial sector and the individual doesn't step up the project is doomed to fail. If this project works to plan, we could see this running by 2015, however that is extremely unlikely unless civil engineering work starts later this year.

we don't have the money for this now, or maybe never. this project has been shuffled back behind other things that were proposed and planned. it's a shame, because prop.1 actually passed to get this going. but one thing for sure, we do have money to expand LAX and it is pushing through. hopefully they finally connect the green line right through the airport terminal itself like SFO international airprot.

@Sonnyville919: According to California's budget calculations, upgrading the highway and airport systems would cost twice as much as CHSR. CHSR is also self-sustainable, which means operating subsitdies are not neccisary.

From 2001 to 2009, we do not have money to build high speed rail, but we have money to fight a war in Iraq. It is better to spend money on other country instead of our own.

Well, last November, voters approved a $9.95 billion bond issue to help fund the project. The state also plans to win a large chunk of HSR stimulus dollars and also will be 1/3 privately funded. The first phase (Anaheim-SF) is scheduled for completion in 2018. Although, we may see some sections such as Anaheim to Los Angeles completed before that date.

We're in huge debt because we're behind on technology and innovation.
High-speed trains are badass as Hell, and are a great way to get around quick without dealing with airports.

Not only that, but when it comes to highways, airports and all the systems that make them work, we are spending tons more money each year than on rail. Even if they fully funded high-speed rail, it would still be much cheaper than either the road system or the air traffic system.

We're in debt because pretty much NOTHING is made in America anymore so the countries that are our manufacturers end up making the bigger profits, WE NEED MANUFACTURING IN ORDER TO KEEP THE MONEY IN AMERICA AND ALSO THE JOBS! and yes, high-speed trains are badass as hell (ie: the Acela Express).

Well then we need to consider people like you. Perhaps a stipulation might be that they ought to be non intrusive to people's lands. For instance, instead of making it go straight through your field they can make it go alongside farmland roads.
I've heard of a lot of sloppy politics in California.
I still think that high speed rails do a lot for the economy and environment, while reducing oil dependence, but it isn't right to cut paths right across people's land.

@sierracuban no they did not hurt our farm they are 30+ miles from us. There is little support from the central valley for this project, not only for the land issue but because we have no need in the central valley to travel back and forth to SF and LA. All it will do is bring people from those areas into the valley where housing is half as much and it will raise housing for the rest of us.

@bsquadrider The jobs that will be supposedly available aren't permanent because once it's built it will be just like the construction jobs with the housing crash. It doesn't take very many people to run the system.

@Muhlineks yes they sure do, but this project has an extremely larger impact on farms throughout the state versus a highway being expanded for 15 miles. The Government has no respect or care for the thousands of farms and dairies that will be destroyed by this project when there is land that could be used in an alternate route that is not fertile or useful.

As a Californian, I can tell you that I feel proud to see my home state moving forward.
I lived in Japan for over 8 years. It was great not depending on a car. The high speed trains and the local lines would take just about anywhere. Now back home, the cost of gas, insurance, parking space and maintenance of my car gives me a headache.
I hope this just the start of many other high peed rail services for California and the whole USA.

You can have express, limited, and normal service. In Japan, Tokyo and Osaka is 320 mi apart, which is around the same distance between LA and SF.
There are 15 stations between Tokyo and Osaka. Express trains (Nozomi) only stop at 4 of them so it only take a little less than 2.5 hrs for the entire 320 mi trip. Limited trains (Hikari) stops at 12 stations and still manages to complete the trip in 3 hrs. And the normal train (Kodama) stops at all 15, but still gets the trip done in 3.5 hrs.
