Actually, I have a lot of experience with cats, and not doing anything is terrible. All the people who say no mom knows best or good you stayed put you are a bunch of wrong idiots. If you got a ladder instead of a camera, and went up there and grabbed the kitten, the mom would've came down by herself, and the kitten would've been totally okay, but instead you were a fucking idiot and you are a lazy ass. I rescued a feral kitten right when raccoons grabbed her ass and trust me she is so thankful.

Momma cats have been doing this for thousands of years. Kittens are able to climb up but not down very well.
They may look close but I am pretty sure they were not. I have never seen a roof that was arm's length away. I am pretty sure it is a zoom lens that makes it look close.
Looking at the comment I realized, some people getting mad that they didn't help them, well. I they did try, the mother, being protective as mother cats usually are, could have hurt them pretty badly. also noticing the kittens are out doors; which could also mean the cats are stray and could make a person very sick if attacked. Not helping the cats, could have ended badly, but in the same sense it was the right thing to do.

Also animals have a sense to detect threat. A kitten with no claws isnt threat

There was a litter of kittens on my school's roof at one point. Nobody put them up there. The mom just delivered them up there and kept them up there.

i used to have this tree in my back yard where one of the branches branched out to my neighbors garage.. when my cat was young and adventurous, he would always climb up the tree, onto the roof, and take a nap. the first time he would cry until rescued, after that he would cry a bit but then find his way down

Yes ofcourse because the cat is totally scared. and when it is in panick mode like that the cat doesnt trust noone but itself.. it fgoes into panick mode and the idea is to hold on and not fall...
just like when humans get scared fear overwhelmes them and they dont think right and arent able to reason...

There was a litter of kittens on my school's roof at one point. Nobody put them up there. The mom just delivered them up there and kept them up there.

this is sick. i really doubt that small kitten climbed there herself. it's really amazing how low someone can be. that kitten's LIFE was on the line. one mistake can cost her life. dangling from a tree at that age is dangerous. this is VERY INHUMANLY SICK.

Few days ago i found my 5 months kitten on the roof of my house. I think he get there by the three which is near. When i went for a ladder to garage and came back Kitty was already on the floor and had fun while i was scared that he will die. Chill out people cats are really smart.

That is obviously very rude! If you didnt put the kitten on the roof and he/she got up there some how all by his/herself why didnt you even try helping?! You were just standing there video taping! At one point the kitten almost fell off the tree and the mother could'nt do anything more to help you didn't even try to help!

i used to have this tree in my back yard where one of the branches branched out to my neighbors garage.. when my cat was young and adventurous, he would always climb up the tree, onto the roof, and take a nap. the first time he would cry until rescued, after that he would cry a bit but then find his way down

I totally agree. This wasn't the Nat'l Geo crew. Both those felines were in trouble. Instead of videotaping, they should have been helping. I only hope someone was on the way with a ladder and that's why the clip ended...ladder had arrived.

I"m thinking the person who shot this video placed the kitten on the roof so he could take a video of it either falling off or the momma cat's attempt to rescue the kitten. Obviously this person is NOT a cat lover or he would have climbed up there himself (with a ladder) and gotten the kitten off. SHAME ON YOU for putting this small creature's life in jeapordy!
