  • When their career is finally over, U2 will not only leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of rock, they'll leave behind one of the biggest footprints in the history of music. Their 'competition' isn't just rock legends like The Beatles, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones-- it's people like Mozart, Beethoven, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin. Anyone who doesn't understand this needs to listen to U2's ENTIRE catalog, which rivals anyone's-- EVER.

  • Pop....an epic album. So many underrated songs.

Time to take it off the shelf boys...dust it off a bit...

  • @LittleMacPhisto Couldn't agree MORE heartfully.

  • This song can be interpreted a multitude of ways, that's what makes U2's music timeless.

  • I was at this gig , amazing night I will never forget , you have to listen to " out of control " from the same gig :-) and yes Bono had just lost his father , emotional stuff

  • "I'm alone in this world and a fucked up world it is too" is the best line ever

  • My blood runs cold when this i hear this track, lovin it

  • i often think of 9/11 when i hear this song, maybe because i listened to it a lot afterwards....then i noticed this video was 10 days prior to the attack...rather stunning

  • @comfortably9numb Wow.... I have seen this video so often for a long time, but i never have noticed that fact. I had put this on my iPod and i love to walk though the cold air outside and looking for a sign.. Just walking. But actually, i don´t believe in god.

  • My eyes water up when I listen to this song :')

  • @Camillacc As I also have a brother, I can imagine how you feel right now... May he rest in peace. For the moment you have to walk on, Camilla. Best wishes.

  • Thank you, just lost my 25 year old daughter and this song pretty sums up how I feel. God bless you!

  • @brendahughes1963 Things like that should never happen, Brenda...

May she rest in peace =;(

    Lots of love and strength.

  • a hidden gem on the pop album x

  • Beyond words.

  • justin bieber doesn't like This...

  • i'm speechless, this is magnificent!

  • I love this Song

    ;___;

  • Beautifull song !!!! Good job Bono

  • Tell me. Tell me the story. The one about eternity. And the way its all gonna be. Wake up. Wake up dead man.

  • My bad, this was on the 1st, but still, pretty close...

  • Now, I don't know if there is any special occasion that happened in Ireland on this day, but for America, there is not a better song that could have been picked for such a sad day. God Bless those who were involved in ANY way w/ the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

  • so deep ,sensitive

  • Aaaaw I just lost my grandma and when I heard the news I went directly here. I think I'm going to listen to it all day long. Thank you...

  • @SaeJoke I'm so sorry for you, Sae. I wish you the best of lucks going through it, may she rest in peace now... See you mate. You're welcome, glad this beautiful music might help you a bit =,)

  • I was at Slane Castle for this...Bonos father had just died the previous week..U2 were amazing best ever!!

  • I was at Slane Castle..Bonos father had just died the week before..Absolutely brilliant show they put on..Best gig ever!!!

  • I never knew about this song. I have always loved U2. They are honestly the best band I have ever had the pleasure to see live. Bono has the most amazing voice and the older he gets, the more I love it.

  • Dam..wat a great song

  • someone missed the like button

  • the 1 unlike is by justin bieber

  • best live song from U2.thumbs up if u agree

  • AWESOME UNDERATED SONG

  • Everything about this is fantastic. U2 forever

  • "And what a fucked up world it is...."

Too true. Rock on. U2=Best Band Ever.

  • this is a great song i just wish they could have played the full album version live. They can't probably because they never had a chance to work on it before the popmart tour since they were rushed to finish pop

  • Those two concerts at Slane, a week apart - because of the nature of our world then as Irish people and Bono's personal world of mourning his father - they are true classics of raw, poignant and ecstatic energy. Nothing was pretence in those two weeks. Bono was possessed in his grief (Wake Up, Kite and others) but also screamed defiance (Out of Control, Elevation, Bullet the Blue Sky etc). We offered him consolation as he gave us a mood the like of which we'll never see again. Exceptional time.

  • U2 at their best..

  • Wake up Lazarus, your friend needs you...

  • One

  • this might be my absolute favorite U2 tune ever... and that is saying something... especially this simple, raw performance of it

  • Great Songwriting, performance... and just getting on with their career/art..whilst the critics seethe.

  • Magnificent

  • Beautiful!

  • The body of Christ is within us, if we awaken to the moral tales; the tales of compassion for the poor, the ill, and the tales of justice against greed and corruption. Thanks Bono, Dave, Larry, and Adam for reawakening these values within my soul. Peace.

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • I don't think there's a vocalist on this planet who doesn't want to sing like Bono... Such a musical god.

  • interesting choice of words... "musical god". I suppose it would be an accurate description if you believe in greek mythology. As I see it, Bono's lyrics and message point in the direction of God... but if you see Bono himself as "a god", Bono would consider himself a failure for inspiring that thought in you.

  • some songs are so simple, but his voice and pronounciation makes them so beautiful

  • Jesus, can you take the time to throw a drowning man a line?

    ...please?

  • when i first ogt this dvd it didnt leave my dvd player for weeks

this is probably the best sing theyr did at that gig

    i love bono's singing!

  • wow, I can't stop listening..... shaking, crying..... LOVE BONO!

  • I love how they stand in the dark. :) Gives more power to the song.

  • the week before this concert his dad has dead... in some moments of the concert you can see him crying.. it was a great concert.

the husband of my sister cryed when he listened to this song

  • i can't stop cry.. beautiful song

  • I agree!;d

  • I don't care if no one agree but Pop is by far the best album from U2.

  • @zachsmit99 YA AND BY A FAIR BIT TOO. NOT AS COMMERCIAL OR POPULAR BUT MAYBE THEIR DARKEST AND MOST HONEST. ALTHOUGH, I CAN LIVE VERY COMFORTABLY WITHOUT MIAMI. PLEASE, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS NEAR PERFECT, ESPECIALLY LIVE.

  • pop is their contribution

  • the best ever show of u2

  • seen them 10 times, they have alot of "best shows ever". no one is better live. springsteen is close but u2 is better.

  • I agree : )) I love this show...

  • makes people crying.

  • "...but maybe your hands aren't free"

"...would you put a word in for me"

    TEARS!!!!!

No one on Earth can match this band & its talent

  • And yet people think that "POP" was not a good Album! How sad!

  • Totalmente de acuerdo.

  • i ABSOLUTLY LOVE POP TO DEATH!

its such an amzing album the bass in it rocks!

  • how amazing can be this song? OMG 5/5

im alone in this world, in a fucked up world is it tho...

  • For those who are arguiening about the filiming in one or two days...

It's recorded in TWO different nights, even though MOST of the footage is from September 1st 2001, second night. There are a fewe shots (Streets, SBS, mostly Until The End Of The World) where you can notice the footage from the first concert. In UTEOTW there are even daily images mixed with the night ones... :-P

  • @u2santos was there .. very moving gig .. i was there first nite .. his dad was only dead and buried a few days .. unbelievable they played that gig ... so many planets aligned to make what happened with this band .. its scary how good they are...

  • Holy crap, such a killer version.

This was also only days after his father's funeral...

  • This version gives takes me to nirvana.

Wealth is to have things that can't be bought for money, which this song is a an example of.

  • WAUW

  • This is a GREAT and TIMELESS song.

  • For me, this song completely, perfectly sums up how I have felt about God and my faith in the past. I went to church longing for a sermon that would help me understand my feelings, but nothing has ever defined them like this song has. Incredible.

  • So many believers haven't got the confidence to state their doubts about God being FOR them, yet all believers have them. Religious leaders are afraid that verbalizing their own doubts will give amplify the doubts of their people. Once again, art leads the way.

  • I sing the song in my only company when I'm sadness. 100

  • I think being there was all that mattered, not what gets the nod for a DVD.

First concert, Bono was in bits, he tried but he was all over the place emotionally - the crowd and the band willed him on. Wake up Dead man was particularly poignant.

Second concert was more celebratory - the football match - Bono had much more bounce in his step. Out of control set the agenda - frenzy. But he was still a man who had just lost a father. The two concerts were very much one unforgettable experience.

  • Why do you guys all have to argue about what date the gig was? Wouldn't it be a better idea to just shut up and enjoy the music?

  • I went to this concert, and all the songs were this way, perfect, the words just came out and the musci was part of the air, it was magic. As Magic as a girl that flew from NC to see a band she had never seen before in a place she had never been. Miracles happen, even in the land.. Wake up Dead Man...

  • no it wasn't.

was all taken on the night of the 1st sept. there was a first concert 7 days before but all the footage on the dvd is definatley from the 1st. I was at the show. recorded a few days after bono's father had passed away and the same day that ireland beat holland to make it to the football world cup

  • AWESOME!!!

  • I can't think too clearly about what is beyond. Yesterday, I lost my mother, somehow this music, something of a catharsis here helps. I only pray that this is not all there is; this can't be for nothing.

  • I'm very sorry, mate... I really hope my video helps you to go through this somehow... Walk On, Walk On...

  • >Hello Trapper2,

This music help me alot years ago. It really touch my soul. I hope the same happens to you, and i also hope that makes you a better person since life is always trowing challenges to us all. Peace m8

  • >Hello Trapper2,

This music help me alot years ago. It really touch my soul. I hope the same happens to you, and i also hope that makes you a better person since life is always trowing challenges to us all. Peace m8

  • @trapper2 Keep standing brother thats life all of us will be gone some day . RIP

  • Right on chrisluvmusic! Hey Grovies, when you despair in God, what do you have left to believe in? And if you don't believe in God, then you're in trouble. Suffering is part of this world, and it proves that there must be something better later on...

  • Look at the date! Few days before 9/11...so sad!

  • Purtroppo una triste coincidenza

  • "GIANTS"

  • Reverence please, this is perhaps the best visuzalization ever of this sacred song, take it for what it's worth.... peace be with you, sleep tonight.

  • You may be right Grovies, we might be alone in this world. But we have to believe in something, call it God or what you like. Is it in us or outside us? Miracles do happen, encounters that should never have happened and love that you can't explain. Maybe it's right in front of us and we don't see it because we are blinded by the dazzling lights. But there is something, we have to believe. And the beauty of U2's music makes me believe that we aren't just alone in this 'fucked up world'.

  • I have loved U2 ever since I was a teenager (i.e. a long time ago) and I know I will never grow tired of them. Just listen to this song! God has not made this 'fucked up' world, we have. Love is what he has given us and U2 is such a great messenger.

  • Since humanity 'fucked up the world', it's obviously in the human nature to fuck things up. Who created all human beings? Guess again, it's God! And since the world is fucked up, why doesn't the obviously omnipotent God save us? Does he like to see us suffer?

It doesn't make any sense. If God is omnipotent, God is always negligent or a sadist. If God isn't omnipotent, then why the hell is he an invisible man murmuring to a billion people at the same time? Open your fucking eyes man.

  • he doesn't need to prove himself to us, blessed is he who believes without seeing or hearing. We screwed up this world when we rebelled against God and became independant of him before i turn this into a sermon i'll go but U2 keep up the great work!

  • he doesn't have to prove himself to us. blessed is he who believes without seeing or hearing. he has showen himself to us through Christ. he is the way the truth and the life. God didn't screw this world up we did when we rebelled against him. it's not in himan nature to screw things up, all that canme into the world when we chose evil over good. before i turn this into a sermon i'll go. Us keep up the good work

  • it's not about proving himself to us you deepshit, it's about people not being killed, and raped every fucking day.

so people are just supposed to suffer because somebody rebelled against god? if that's it then fuck god, he's an asshole just like hitler.

  • if a child disobays his parents he has to be punished so that he will learn to be obideiant, that's the same as with God we have to learn from the mistakes of others, and ourselves that's why there's so much evil, God didn't want people to be raped, killed etcall that came in when satan tempted Adam and Eve, so God isn't a bastard, like Hitler, Hitler just wanted to kill everyone, God wants everyone to be saved, but people just say all these things and turn away from him!

  • well the reason why we suffer is because if we didn't suffer then there would be no need for heaven cause we'd already be ther, God allows us to suffer so that we can depend on him and so that we can see just how big he is. He doesn't like to see us suffer, but the reward is more than what we could imagine when we stick by his side. he has showen himself to us through Christ, he is the way, the truth and the life. He's only invisible because we have to prove ourselves to him,

  • any doubt U2 has a religous leaning in their music is put to rest in this song

  • What do you mean by that?

  • what do you think i mean? it isnt hard to understand my post.

  • Wow-a tough guy.

If I understood I wouldn't ask you to explain.

Just because you hide behind a computer screen doesn't make you tough.

  • are you serious? ok, for you... people have debated for years that u2 sings about god, this song proves they do. ok tony soprano??? tough guy, lololol.

  • where did i say i was born again? you are a fucking retard, why did you bother even replying to my comment if you are gonna be a dick? if you didnt like my post the it wasnt meant for you. grow up little person

  • Who gives a fuck if U2 is religious or not.

    They make great music.

    Sunday mass was yesterday.

  • Bono's the best singer in the whole world, nobody like U2

  • Bono's voice can launch a plane.

    Listen to that.

    Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He is one of the best singers EVER

  • why its so short? its Awesome but to short

  • his voice is one in a million, respect

  • What is more, I suggest you to watch film "Decalogue" by Krzysztof Kieślowski. Maybe then you will understand what I mean. But if you not everything will be ok...

Thank you for reading my messages.

  • An absolutely brilliant film Decalogue is. 2nd all time fav after Patton.

This song is sung brilliantly. An amazing lyrical masterpeice.

    Bless U2

  • I see that you don't like my messages. I still wait for sb's answer... In my opinion about atheism I thought about the fact that many people (because not everyone - maybe you are this person) don't seach God, but they want to find Him. That's all. I searched God long time and found Him in other people. I don't know which way to find God is the best for you... Maybe doing sth what you never did (I mean for exaple talk with people who believe in God or what ever). I don't know. It depends on you.

  • I see that somebody doesn't agree with me. Please write your opinion on this subject because I don't know why somebody gave my message bad note. Please write why my opinion is wrong.

  • These all 4 messages are addressed to krobs151. I don't know why it is placed here instead of there where are krobs151's comments. :/

  • Dont worry. Youve passed a message to millions and replied to only one. Appreciate your patience. Bless u

  • wake up and live.robert nesta marley .give thanx to jah, kibar am lak glory to god!rastafari

  • im a u2 fan since 1984 aqnd this song is the best!

  • LukeJ60 GOOD COMMENT!! life is beautiful!!!

  • i for some reason like and feel so much power in the lines

    "tell me the story

    the one about eternity

and the way its all gonna be"

  • thats the urge to be with god for all of time, those lines realy move me as well and also jesus

"im w8ing here boss i know ure looking out for us"

  • I lost my belive in god and religion long time ago, cause of my childhood with my father. But when i was lying on my bed, listening to this song, the strong lyrics and the great voice i just started thinking again. started believing again. Thanks so much for posting this video!

  • What a completely awesome song!

  • I don't believe in god, but I do like this song. It's nice to hear just Bono's voice with the guitar.

  • How can you not believe in God?

  • What do you mean? I'm not the first person to not believe in god, it's not a new thing. Lots of people don't.

  • try to think of somthing that doesnt exsist

  • I interpret this as saying Jesus is currently dead and Bono is calling him out, as it were. Is that everyone else's take?

I know there is a book out about the 'faith' of U2 but I don't really see that this is what they espouse. They are more along the masonic brand of religion or Rosicrucian. Does anyone else think that, or am I just staring at the sun?

  • i agree

  • the line wake up dead man, is not about Jesus, but for michael hutchence!(Inxs)

  • or it could be jesus telling you to wake up

  • nice one!!!!

  • thnx thats how i interpret this song

  • @CdEfGh1a -this song is based on jeremiah the prophet calling out a spiritually dead man and putting the hol alive spirit in him---look at the album all that you cant leave behind jer333 jeremiah chapter 33 verse 3

  • I always say this: We are too small to understand this existance. If God would be incredibly wise, how can we claim we understand him? I'm no christian myself, not anymore at least, simply because I don't feel anything. I hate seeing religion and admiring some God as a tradition rather then something sacred.

Still, wether they are right or wrong, I only try to understand when I'm under the stars or fascinated by a cup of water, I try minding the little things with the rest of my fylosophy.

  • man has abandoned God, not the opposite.

  • awesome show, the best of their career I think

  • beautiful song and beautiful version but that u said krobs151 alot of it is true.... religion is full of holes but not al religion dude... if u ask a priest about what happends after death he will just say that god wanted another angel in heaven.... thats ur bs man. but dude i hae tryed this and try it u too. ask the next time a jehovas witness knocks on ur door ask them what happends after death and they will tell u

  • You don't know it krobs, Jesus will return. But he will not return the time we estimate it.

  • Jesus isn't coming back...but if that makes you sleep better at night...religion is so flawed and so full of holes and such bs and small thinking for people...'The less you know, the more you believe' from Last Night on Earth, basically sums it all up

  • You won't be thinking that when you're judged for your sins, and everyone who had believed in jesus looks at you while you're being convicted. You live for what, 80 years? Eternity, is way longer. BTW you've been spoon fed the beliefs of Christianity, it's not as absurd as you believe. Look it up, there is a lot of proof to it all.

  • fuck you!many choices arounded the world!jesus is not my choise..but i have peace......cmon now...."give peace a chance"

  • I pity your decision, and hope you change for the best. Peace

  • pity?dont pity me my friend...where i am only 8% o f the population are christian.there are alot of religious choices in this GIANT world and just because im not christian does make me a bad person,a sad person...and it does not make me a wrong person.i dont need pity...i need christians to be a bit more open minded.

  • to tell you the truth, I don't care whether you're buddhist, muslim, jewish, or anything. It's you who makes the decision. I'm just focusing on becoming a better christian, and trying to help others to find the light also. I feel satified by just telling you to change. There's nothing more I can do for you. You have to look it up for yourself. As far as I'm concerned I am really open minded, and so are a lot of other christians.

  • well...i dont know about that.i was raised chritian.i am now a buddhist but i dont go telling christians to convert to buddah.i understand your point.

  • If you want to know everything about God you will never believe in Him. Some people waist time thinking "Is there God or no?". You must see Him by heart, feel Him not think about Him or imagine Him because it's impossible! Our (human) mind is too small to know everything about God and understand Him. Religion relies on trust. But at first you should try to feel His presence. It's easy to find God if you have clear heart. I know it because I experienced it...

  • Ps. I think atheism and deism is one big hole in which people live in darkness, sadness, falsehood and hopelessness. Holes in religion are made by people, not by God. That's why we should concentrate on Him and love, not on religion as institution. Because everyone can make mistakes.

  • I prefer this version rather than the one on the album. I lurve it. :-)

  • great song, but one needs to listen to whole song. Bono himself mentions how much Christianity is hopeless believing and this song is about how so much bad happens and God/Jesus isn't around.

  • So why does bono sing "i know you are looking out for us"? Awesome song by the way...

  • Exactly my point...if God was really looking out for us, why are things always so bad and people's prayers go unanswered...ie Sago Miners...even Bono has major doubts about all the BS affiliated with religion

  • For me the song is more a hope for jesus to come back (wake up), once more, and set things right with mankind. The bad things that are happening right now is ALL about mankind -not God (whom has allready done his part for you and me. Its has been up to us now for quite a long time to follow his words...

  • Things are bad cuz people made it bad... Everyone has free will and caused it on themselves. God will make it better one day, soon, now that it's the most violent of times.

  • heyman

  • Things are bad cuz people made it bad... Everyone has free will and caused it on themselves. God will make it better one day, soon, now that it's the most violent of times.

  • You should know that sometimes people pray for something what is wrong on the long run but they don't know about it now. God listen prayers all the time but sometimes He can't do something what we want because it is not in His plan. Because He plans everything and all He wants is good for people. Sometimes we can't understand why we should go other way that we want, why we should go this more difficult way. But this more difficult way is the only way to God, way to know Him and understand Him.

  • Maybe you just can't find Him in human live on the Earth. Because I can see Him. I see Him everyday. It's not easy but if you try... And what's more, I think you should be quite inteligent to know that not everything what say Bono is perfect, great and smart.

God can't do everything instead of you. That's why sometimes we think that He looks at us from distance. But in fact He is closer to a man than other people. Maybe you should start search Him in ordinary life, in other man or in nature.

  • You speak the words of truth, If i could rate you +20 i would. :)

  • I'm a christian, but the song is exceptional even for the non/believers.

  • I'm a buddhist, but i love this song. Just like calling someone you trust. For me , Buddha.
