  • ubuntu 9.04 has many memories for me :D

  • @NewKeepSharing31 Ubuntu is ROCK

  • WHY THIS SONG??? WHY....??

  • which version is this???????????

  • Hi,

Thanks for such a nice video with the useful info.

Can you please tell me, how you get those mini icons on the center-bottong of your desktop ? Where you have Opera, Firefox... etc shortcuts and a Penguin is walking !

  • I getting tired of hearing this damn song on every video.

  • What are the specs of the machine you're running this on? I've always had a hell of a time getting my gfx accelerator card working with ubuntu.

  • @erixmix this a shuttle box with a intel card

  • TED Talks FTW!!!!!!!!!

  • What is the background music?

  • can you run windows programs on ubuntu?

  • @CiniCraft

Some you can through WINE. Dual boot it with Windows... you have the best of both worlds then.

  • Comment removed

  • And people buying Mac...while this exist....

  • nice

  • I love ubuntu, but I used compiz for a couple of months and always ran into glitches. I found ways to fix them but it was never right. I also tried gnome shell, though it was not released yet, it was pretty cool. If anyone found this interesting look and gnome shell.

  • why hasn't UBUNTU taken over the world?

  • @zenileon BC most would see how it isnt as easy to install multiple applications at a time without having to use a bit of common sense. Windows is more user friendly while ubuntu is more tech friendly (rofl, idk how to word that but whatever you get my point)

  • quick question i want to change to linux but i also want to use my comp for stuff like word ppt excel and stuff. does linux support these programs or...? im really into personilizing my stuff..

  • @pcgamerdave25 you can use openoffice, it's also available for windows. Try that on windows. It will also be available on linux.

Microsoft Office will never be compatible with linux without using visualization software like vmware or virtualbox.

  • @pcgamerdave25 You can use software such as wine to install MS office on a Linux System. Search youtube. There are many videos on how to do so.

  • ubuntu tweak kicks ass! specially in the part of getting in the source list, and adding ppa's and all that.

  • oh also nvidia quadro fx r powerful graphic cards i have quadro fx 1400 it works with aero on windows vista/7 and ubuntu with compiz.oh and i remeber it was experiental in ubuntu 7.04 fiesty fawn since i first used ubuntu.i heard of ubuntu in 2007. i loved it so much i dual booted with it.it was the first time i dual booted an os

  • omg u lot have massive screens and u have laptops mostly on a desktop pc someone would have either 1280x1024 or 1024x768

  • i liek when you like drag the windows it creates like a wave

  • cool

  • every second video use this sound?? by the way nice vid

  • Es uno de los mejores videos en youtube sobre los efectos de compiz.

    ------

It is one of the best videos on youtube about the effects of compiz.

  • man, this song is getting annoying.

  • хрень. плавающие окна и так есть а нафиг они нужны эти несколько рабочих столов?

  • Nice music, dawg ...

  • lag! not smooth as Ubuntu 3D effect in BenQ laptop (sorry I dont remember the model), you can search in this Youtube to find out

  • Is this a good operating system? Worth the download? I've heard of open source before, but never on an operating system. What does that mean? Would it run my games well? Sorry for all of the questions, but I have to know.

  • @Amnesia512 get 9.10 ubuntu, you CAN can play certain games through windows emulation, + there is tons of free software that is equivalent to windows software provided within the OS.

  • @BankruptMonopoly cool. thanks!

  • Anyways i am w8ing for Ubuntu 10.04 release ... It will be a really kick as to Windows & Mac OS ...

People switch to Linux ass soon as you are younger to learn how your pc really works and it's really cool ...

As for the people hating the terminal JUST DON'T USE IT. I am an Linux user since a year now and i love terminal, i love writing commands to my pc and it "answers" me back , i also love WINE application cause i can run any windows games/app that i need ...

Way to go is Linux ...

  • will it run good on my laptop 160ogb hdd 3gb ram ati 3200 amd athlon 64

  • Without problems.

  • will this be running smoothly on my netbook (1,6 GHz, 1 Gb ram, Intem GMA 9500 video card)?

  • yes

    for sure ;)

i used it in one with 1.6 ghz, 512 mb ram and 64m video and runs like dream =) much better than windows at least and im not a fanboy of any os =p

  • love it :P !!

  • imprecionante :O !

se ve mejor que windows 7 :DDD

    tiembla Bil Gates jajajaj

  • i wnat to know how you move the desktop thingy and its a circle and you change like the dektop like that cylindar shape thing how do you dothat to desktop

  • You must install an application named "Compiz"

It's free just open an Terminal and type :

    sudo apt-get install compiz

    That simple ...

  • U are not right. Compiz is already installed. It needs compiz-manager. He can install it by going into Package Manager and writing ccsm in the search or going into Ubuntu Software center and writing compiz manager or ccsm.

  • what's the name of the song? pliiiiiz

  • speak to angels ~ 009 sound system :)

  • @fdomoya234 thanks fdomoya ^^

  • DreamScape

    009 Sound system

  • @ilife11 thanks ilife ^^

  • this is better that windows 7?

  • its not Ubuntu is terrible.

  • can i play windows games on this ?

  • yes but you will need virtual box

  • ok thanks

  • or Wine

  • Comment removed

  • @FullM3tal7ack3t Yes, over CrossOver or Cedega(I rec Cedega).

  • or wine

  • better use wine

  • @FullM3tal7ack3t

No, you can't play windows games, they are designed for windows OS. For example; you have proprietary windows callback functions, message queue, lots of proprietary junk. For example; when you click on something, windows kernel will pass the message to the message queue of the application it was intended for; the window you opened (game or whatever else). The only way is to translate the source code, games built for windows are binary executables.

  • @FullM3tal7ack3t Yes, using wine.

  • @FullM3tal7ack3t when u install windows too

  • @FullM3tal7ack3t you can indeed!, just install it under wine or playonlinux app ;)

  • @FullM3tal7ack3t

yes you can, with WINE, not at the native performance though.

  • @FullM3tal7ack3t No. With wine yes! (Wine is a program)

  • nice .... but terrible music

  • what is the name of the song?

  • song info???

    p.s. it is awesome!!!

  • @andrija95aki song name is 009 Sound System - Dreamscape

  • how can u make that bottom bar on ubuntu.

  • Looks like it might be cairo-dock

  • is this free soft ware?

  • @elicit0kame yes open-source software and ubuntu packages it and makes it available free of charge, but if you need comercial support from ubuntu/canonical you would need to pay for that, just like anyother software package.

  • @elicit0kame All free software. as lafaspot says the support you can pay for or you can simply google an issue or use the free ubuntu forum. They jave solved every issue I have had and all for free.

  • Wat screen recorder u using?

  • gtk-recordmudesktop

  • @lafaspot Ubuntu or Windows XP? watcha say?

  • @LjdSkillz

    to avoid confusion,

    he's using

    "gtk-recordmydesktop"

he had a typ-o. didn't want you not to bea able to record because of this :)

  • holy crap that looks like it would take alot of resources to run

  • Surprisingly not much. Because it's not Windows.

  • how come the one i have doesnt work that way :(

  • Probably because you didn't make it work like this.

  • hey i just started using ubuntu and i love it man this is so incredible ,,,i would like to know do i get those cool effect software the docks thing look really nice and the 3d desktop

  • Check my other video "ubuntu 3D howto"

  • You can also take a look at my favorites, you will find several other tutorials for other Ubuntu applications there.

  • Creed - Human Clay

    thumbsup.jpg

  • ubuntu is future!!!!

    @JesusMansons

    yea thats pretty true

  • Why do all the Ubuntu videos always focus on the eye candy effects? Yeah that's nice, but some of us actually want to GET WORK DONE.

I almost never see videos showing what programs you can use in Ubuntu.

  • whine runs some windows programs. linux is also more stable than windows, and is open source. it doesnt get that much viruses.

  • @jmans25

Yeah, but what the hell PROGRAMS can I use to get things done in Ubuntu?

Is that all there is to Ubuntu, spinning cubes around?

  • you can use whine to do what you would do with a windows pc. whine is for linux.

  • Check my favorite videos, you can see several examples of other programs being used in Ubuntu.

  • wow

  • this is a great showcase for the power of fairly standard Ubuntu. I use Kubuntu myself (or rather Ubuntu with Kubuntu-desktop bolted on) but Gnome does look awesome here with Compiz :)

    Good work!

  • may I plz have your computers full specks!

  • Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 3D desktop Demo. Compiz and cairo-dock are enabled.

The demo was recorded with gtk-recordmydesktop and uploaded directly into youtube.

    I used a Thinkpad T61p with a nvidia card.

The video was recorded at 1920x1200 15fps

  • NO!

I ment RAM amount and CPU speed. also, what is your model of NVidia? thanks!

  • 2Gb mem, and a 2.4 Core Duo, for the gfx card check minute 3:26 of the video, it shows the gfx card specs, but this is a regular nvidia that ships with Thinkpad T61

  • thanks bro, and sorry to bother you bro!

  • como xama essa música?

  • i love ubuntu, but honestly i've been trying to get my wifi working and its driving me crazy, I'm connected vie ethernet right now, but i want to move this bastard and cant unless i get the wifi working... the thing that pisses me off the most is that I'm only one step away, I can get signals and detect all the wifi sources but cant get a connection...

    bah im just ranting

  • Try version 9.10 of Ubuntu is more recent and the problem might have been fixed.

In case this does not work for you, try getting a cheap usb wifi adapter, the cheaper ones work fine with Linux.

  • How did you install the rocket dock?

  • Check my other video, "Ubuntu 3D Desktop howto" it shows how to enabled it.

  • yup no problems at all, i think you cant enable Ipv6 but that doesnt really matter. but in all honesty if your in linux, rather than use Wine i would recommend using Deluge. its a native app, it works awesome, just as good as uTorrent, has a few more features, and its also very light and fast. i like that it has an IP Blocklist built in, to help keep you from getting caught =P

  • which song is this?

  • dreamscape

  • esa cancion me gusta como se llama

  • if you like this download UE ultimate edition (ubuntu ultimate edition) if you have a fairly up to date system you can just go to system>preferences>appearance>visual effects and select enable effects. UE is bad ass

  • you need to install frostwire on ubuntu limewire=windoz

  • FrostWire is the OpenSource equivalent of LimeWire which is closed source, iirc. LimeWire does have Linux releases (Debian archived), including the PRO releases which you can find free online.

  • Actually Frostwire is for Windows and Linux, its simply and open source Gnutella network File-sharer... It is BASICALLY Limewire Pro for Free haha, much much better than Limewire itself. and it works great on Ubuntu

  • I personally hate the default theme, the orange gets old after a while, but Ubuntu just kicks the crap out of everything if you know how to enable the cool effects, which you have done :)

  • Hah his Ubuntu Theme sucks too, he has effects enabled but the Original theme still...he should use a different one, ohh and install Emerald Theme manager for cool looking window themes and transparency and such

  • hey man nice video, could u telll me the name of the desklet u've istanlled at the bottom ?

  • i can't download the zune software or limewire!!!! i have ubunto 9.04 and it doesn't want to work!! help!?!?!

  • try searching "limewire ubuntu" on google.

Zune is a microsoft product. Support for linux is not on Microsoft priority, you probably should dual boot if you need to use your Zune, it will always work better with windows. I have a cowon and those work geat with linux and Amarok using ogg and mp3.

Check Amarok and Miro, both are good at music and videos and work on Ubuntu.

  • hey man are u an aab? just noticed the arabic video u played on ur video. :) i use linuxmint

  • go on synaptics package manager and look for frostwire.

  • You could try loading Windows inside of Linux...

It's easier the rebooting all the time, but has some draw backs.

You don't need LimeWire , Linux comes with Transmissions already installed it's under Internet. :P

    Other news:

Linux has a Time Machine app just like Mac called "Back in Time".. "Back in Time" can be used to automatically back up files to an external drive it's handy...

  • Btw Limewire and Transmission are not even close to the same thing. Limewire is a Gnutella Protocol P2P App, where as Transmission uses the Torrent protocol. and Transmission sucks, if you want something like Limewire, use Frostwire, its Really good, and if you want to torrent stuff, use Deluge or install uTorrent in Wine, it works good.

  • I don't want anything like Limewire, because Limewire Suck big monkey balls. Limewire is know for crashing computers... I fix computers 85% of them crash because they use Limewire to download crap...

  • Limewire doesnt crash computers, its PEOPLE who use Limewire, they download viruses and such. because YES there are Viruses, Trojan Horses, and such on Limewire. the thing is, you can use it in Linux all you want with no worries cus the virus cant do anything cus it was made for windows =) so ACTUALLY you'd be 100% in the clear. and if your in windows and you know what your downloading isnt a virus then your fine, its pretty easy to tell. In general though, Torrents are MUCH better. try them out

  • Buy what Ubuntu is totally free dude.

  • when is apple gonna start allowing linux users to use itunes?? that's a big market isn't it? :/ and other programmes too. msn messsenger etc. if they did i would definitely use linux but i need those things.

  • what you mean MSN Messenger? you can...use a Chat program. i connect onto my MSN and chat with friends while using ubuntu. anddd yea iTunes doesnt work but NO its not a big market. plus it would just be a pain for them to make it for every Distribution. Songbird actually works Fine with iPods, so does Amarok and Banshee and other Music players. but you do need iTunes if something gets messed up and you need to Restore.

  • omg i want linux now D:

  • Comment removed

  • click application then ubuntu software center then search 4 the software you want. you will not find the exact software but you will find something similar..

But wtf ? ubuntu comes with a bit torrent client u will find it in internet menu.

Also check above your nose to see if you have eyes or not.

  • Ubuntu comes with Transmission for torrents....which SUCKS. you can download Deluge though or run uTorrent through Wine and it works perfect.

  • Very nice video, Ubuntu is super!

    Name of music ?

  • When you watch the video, it shows after 10s you can click to buy on amazon.

  • Bad setup effects, compiz fusion could be better than this

  • I plan on tryin out linux but what is the big difference between this system and mac? they look alot alike. and can it run most pc apps/games?

  • Forget running PC games on a Mac or Linux unless you use something like the compatibility layer Wine, then Mac doesnt give you anything that you can't do in Linux.

  • well, Steve, things like Final Cut, Digital performer, Pro Tools HD, Logic Pro, Photoshop, and so on! and i know Linux is capable of running those programs, and that's companies fault, but then why dont people like you make it possible, or are you just another User-Only?

  • thank you for a smart comment finally. blargh

  • Good clip but many of us can do without the crappy music. --Good narration is more what a clip like this should be about, & info, info.

  • awesome video wish i had that much time to tweak until i got something that awesome

  • Yes, it is a big enough task just to get all the drivers etc together to get it all to work; eg: audio, video (incl commercial videos) printers, wi-fi, etc etc without wasting time having one's brains belted out by someone who has produced a spoofy video, but doesn't want to talk about it & how he did it.-- Better of to find

commercial training in it; less waste of time.

  • you are making a bigger deal out of this than it is, everything you just listed will take 10 minutes tops, in Ubuntu, 85% of the time it will ALREADY Have the drivers. and enabling, and setting all those effects doesnt take that long, it took me like 20 minutes to set up Emerald and Compiz and they look freakin awesome.

  • lol you have lots of firefox.

  • if i downloaded the whole thing and when it formats the hardrive would i be able to put windows XP back on with the restoration kit or would i have to buy a windows XP disk and reinstall it? please help because i wana test it on my computer and if i dont like it i want to beable to put it back to normal with the restoration kit

  • Try the live CD first, for a while. When you install Ubuntu it will allow you to resize the windows partition, but you need to have at least 10Gb of free space.

  • @hobbs312

You can try the live CD with out installing. It will be slow and you can not save anything but it will give you a good idea of what it is like. When you install you can create a partition for windows and one for ubuntu so you can use both. Make sure you back up your data before trying this though.

  • wow this looks awsome

.. what is the requirement of this os ?

  • lol its pretty low. mine runs all of this perfect, off a USB Stick, with an Old 128mb Grfx Card, a 2ghz processor, and 2 GBs of ram, but i have done this same thing on much less capable systems. actually i ran this with more effects than were in the video, on a Netbook in Frys, and it worked golden!

  • Cool effects but the music was so annoying. I didn't even have it playing from speakers, just through headphones that were connected to my computer and lying on the floor, and I still had to mute the video.

  • Since May 22, 1990 Millions have been looking outside the same "Windows" just to find out that their worlds have "crashed", so why keep crashing? Free your mind use Abuntu. IT IS FREE. Omar Canales

  • Your spelling is fail, guy.

    It's Ubuntu, not Abuntu.

If you're going to advertise, advertise correctly.

  • what is tthe name of that song?

  • bring me to life, evanescence

  • could i use this version of ubuntu on my toshiba satellite laptop?

  • Try the Ubuntu Live CD first, before installing it. It runs from the CD without making any changes to your HD.

Of course is kind of slow, since it will be running from the CD.

  • does compiz come installed with ubuntu? how do i activate?

  • install the manager

search for compiz manager or something like that

sorry i can't be more specific but i'm on my windows boot atm

  • swiss yes ubuntu has compiz installed by default. You will need to right click on the background and change the visual affects. To make things easy on you i would install the CCM

  • Whats the name of the song?

And i'm thinking of switching from Vista to ubuntu.. Should I? I feel tha vista sucks, but i dont wanna buy win 7 : )

    Please answer

  • don not hesitate to test it!

it costs 0$ and you got a superb community to answer questions if there are any.

    first, test it live!

    then install, then...

BAM! you finally got a good looking, good working OS with very little issues...even gaming is getting better!

  • I say yes, do it, its way faster, less spacious, and very user friendly

  • either try ubuntu or linux mint which I hear is very similar but only easier to use

  • how can we use desktop cube on compiz?could you upload an educational video?

  • I did, please see my other video, Ubuntu 3D Desktop Howto, and Ubuntu 9.10 3D Desktop.

  • Linux is awesome and kicks MS booty in everything but the downside is that Linux is free so every support is mostly user generated and based on community efforts.

This means that not every hardware is supported yet unless the community uses it and writes a program for it.

On the upside, if you buy a computer based on the LINUX community you got 100% compatibility and power at your fingertips FREE.

    Hope this helps some newbies.

  • is everything here built into ubuntu?

  • Not everything, but the effects shown are fairly easy and free to install if you follow guides online.

  • Linux video playback suck had Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 there is not good replacement for H.264 codecs. Only good on linux is compiz fusion and that is free. I wish that is better then winds in compatibility but it isn't.

  • lol dude download codecs and videos play fine, and if not, get VLC, it plays ANYTHING perfect. I myself use it anyways, never play videos in anything else...just try it out.

  • What is the name of the Dock you are using? I'd like to get that.

  • cairo-dock

  • So you would suggest this one instead of Win7 ?

  • Hell yeah!

  • Could yo be more specific please? Because i was thinking maybe change to Ubuntu, but i need someone to give me a good reason why

  • do a search here on youtube for Linux Mint &7 before you decide but i would switch it is that simple.why........so you wont get another blue screen.....linux mint comes with a lot of things already installed like firefox and this will seem petty but it says something about the differences.....youtube works as soon as you load the O/S there is a lot of little things like that that you have to manually do in ubuntu that makes it aggravating.......windoze sucks

  • Yes, Ubuntu definitely saved me from the nothing I've become with Windows.

  • How do you open the 3d desktop i've tried some things but i can't get the 3D desktop open? Do you need a program for it or?
