Personally i think that the future of at's lies with superconductors. If we can one day create a room temperature superconductor then we could use it to create a powerful magnetic fields with very little power so small batteries for long distances

your right but also wrong, the size of the gears depends on wether or not it produces speed or torque, you see a gear ratio like 20:5=more speed but a ratio like 20:25= torque its all about size and work.
I never thought to use a Potentiometer it's a good idea, we use a brushless speed controller for the motor, and have a series of gears to greatly multiply speed. Cause if you have enough gears and the ratio is good you don't need much power just multiply what you already have, ya know.
It's not impossible, although you can't fly like they do in the show you can make motorized rollerblades like AT's. I developed some a while back although they are unfinished and slightly different from the show. Mine were chain driven and used a potentiometer to control the speed through leaning. The main problem you will face is supplying it enough energy to be worth using. If I every get the spare cash and time I will redevelop them to be just like the show.
here's an idea why not try using the motor from a mini chainsaw you know the little hand held ones since they have to power to cut through wood and other things witch is great cause that means it might work even with the pressure of an average human body on it

I was thinking about what someone said about the acceleration control methods. we could replicate the method used in the anime were shifting ones center of gravity forward increases acceleration. this tech is already available in vehicles to control air bag deployment speed based on if someone is leaning forward. this would probably be a good way to keep people from falling on their asses when they accelerate too ^.^. idk just a thought.

Actually this group in Sacramento CA already has it done their selling em 500$ for a fast pair 100$ through 200$ for a 24mph pair, the catch is that the skates are un registered so to buy em you gotta meet the people in person. but if that doesn't bother you get a hold of DATA he will sell you a pair

the guy that did the scooter has some pretty detailed and extensive information on his site as to how he made his. I belive its completely possible if one was to go this route.
theonly other option i can see involves somewhat bigger motors used mainl in electric RC planes (and theres some pretty amazingl powerfull ones!) but would need some small chains n sprockets etc.
ok im not gonna lie all those things listed as "problems" arn't really problems there are motors small enough and the are strong enough wheels but this will never happen because 1.) its way too expencive and 2.) you'll get sued by OH GREAT as soon as they hear about them
if you think about it its not as far fetched as it seems the design is complex yes one mishap and ur screwed not to mention designing a wheel that can handle the intense friction and the impact from high flying jumps i think the real problem is the funding or the blueprints if you need any help with drawing im pretty good with a pencil and paper just email me at jasminebarnes41@yahoo.com send me a in depth description of ur idea and i could sketch it out for u i really want to make this real
I hear you, the design for an AT is the easiest thing in the world, but housing a motor and batteries small enough for it is not only hard but expensive. the dont have those kinds of motors just laying around and cheap for just anyone to use. the motor would have to be computerized if anything, and even if you manage to get the motor, you would need to know how to monitor the speeds, the concept that they had in the anime, isnt ideal for the real world. something like a clutch motor might do.
I started a pair of these. They were pretty simple to build but when it came to the motor, it was too big and it didn't hold a charge for too long. I'm going to be re-trying it and this time, I'll write down everything I do just in case you're interested. Once I get it running smoothly, I'll post it on youtube, facebook, and email you the details and what I did! Wish me luck!

I think you might be a bit off on something... Depending on your ratio putting in too many gears won't make it faster it will give it more torque.

Dude that is the guy I said to look up Teamtestbot. And the motor isn't 100mm that is just the wheel the motor can is around 60-65mm. I am going to try and do the whole self contained thing if I can

those guys built awsome stuff...and 100mm motors in each 100mm wheel...the speeds are wireless controlled by this cool looking thing u wear on your wrist...its awsome it really is...

Actually this group in Sacramento CA already has it done their selling em 500$ for a fast pair 100$ through 200$ for a 24mph pair, the catch is that the skates are un registered so to buy em you gotta meet the people in person. but if that doesn't bother you get a hold of DATA he will sell you a pair

We are use wireless tech in our rollerblades an a remote glove on our hand.You don't get good speed on them.We are working on a way to fix this problem. From : your kind of compotion.We are working on the same goal.

just an update.. not long after posting this, i found that the guy that did the scooter after much request did finaly do a rollerblade version. they were kinda low powered and not very fast, but hey, it is a step in the right direction..
just thoght id let ya know..

the thing is, ogtta find someone to make the wheels..
the guy that did the scooter has some pretty detailed and extensive information on his site as to how he made his. I belive its completely possible if one was to go this route.
theonly other option i can see involves somewhat bigger motors used mainl in electric RC planes (and theres some pretty amazingl powerfull ones!) but would need some small chains n sprockets etc.
as it is, im gona make something similar

I wanted a set so bad back in the day after watching AirGear
I spent hours and days researching everyhting..
the ebst most likely succesful way to do it would be 2use hubless motors..
mount em in each wheel..
last i checked, they would have to be custom made, such as the guy that did it with the scooter.
mount the batts etc in a backpack, or pockets up the leg.
i figure with 4 motors on each blade, it should do the trick.. mabe wider wheels etc to make more room for more windings and bigger

ok im not gonna lie all those things listed as "problems" arn't really problems there are motors small enough and the are strong enough wheels but this will never happen because 1.) its way too expencive and 2.) you'll get sued by OH GREAT as soon as they hear about them

if you think about it its not as far fetched as it seems the design is complex yes one mishap and ur screwed not to mention designing a wheel that can handle the intense friction and the impact from high flying jumps i think the real problem is the funding or the blueprints if you need any help with drawing im pretty good with a pencil and paper just email me at jasminebarnes41@yahoo.com send me a in depth description of ur idea and i could sketch it out for u i really want to make this real

I hear you, the design for an AT is the easiest thing in the world, but housing a motor and batteries small enough for it is not only hard but expensive. the dont have those kinds of motors just laying around and cheap for just anyone to use. the motor would have to be computerized if anything, and even if you manage to get the motor, you would need to know how to monitor the speeds, the concept that they had in the anime, isnt ideal for the real world. something like a clutch motor might do.

I started a pair of these. They were pretty simple to build but when it came to the motor, it was too big and it didn't hold a charge for too long. I'm going to be re-trying it and this time, I'll write down everything I do just in case you're interested. Once I get it running smoothly, I'll post it on youtube, facebook, and email you the details and what I did! Wish me luck!
