great song from a great band! pls check out our video, we are still trying to get that shoegaze/ambient feel.. just type, jam experiment video file 1 (or video file 2).. leave a comment, thanks!
I think the best thing about this band is the name. I do enjoy the sweetness of the presentation not near as intense as shoegaze from the first time around but it is nice. More like no wave.
Whoever they sound like they do it very well and its very enjoyable to listen to. I bet some of the bands they have been influenced by have listened to their album and been impressed. good songwriting is good song writing at the end of the day. Take your favourite band and imagine a new band that sounds like them but writes even better songs. Would you be happy about this? I would.
Sounds like they have perfected their late 80s indie/shoegaze vibe but am i the only one on here who thinks there's absolutley NO originality in what they release?
You're right. There was nothing terribly original about the Beatles's first five albums, either, but they're still pretty awesome. At some point all artists ride on the shoulders of their heroes. Bad ones never get tired of it. Good ones eventually stand up and climb higher. Time will tell which kind of artist these are.
The life pursuit has nothing on belle and sebasians older previous records...in fact, it's a bit rubbish :/ This album would be a suitable replacement haha!
Nonsense. While I agree it's not their best, it's certainly not rubbish. "Another Sunny Day", "Act of the Apostle (II)", and "Funny Little Frog" are all great; "Dress Up in You" is about as acidic and ironic and sad as anything they've done.
Incidentally, I don't know why anyone would like this group to Belle & Sebastian. It may be the only group they DON'T sound like.
Even if "selling out" were synonymous with "trying new sounds", then it would actually be more true to say that they "sold out" at Dear Catastrophe Waitress, not the Life Pursuit. Furthermore, what, precisely, did they have in their earlier work that they do NOT have in the Life Pursuit?
It's not new sounds though. Really, the issue is that it avoided the less extravagent nature of of their musice before, that album was the equivelent of flashing their penis and everyone noticing it wasn't very big. Subject nature too, it didn't cover as much as the album previous.
This is the part where corpulent consciousness catches up to intuition. "False alarm," intuition tells him. "Yes. I see that now," says consciousness. Intuition regards the stretching shapes on the grass. "Should we tell them that there's no ...?" Consciousness yawns. Too much coffee and cigarettes makes him sleepy. "Fuck them."
@ROCKWORLD1881 It is quite Stone Roses-esque, I agree, I can hear a bit of The Smiths in there too, and the drumming reminds me of Steven Morris from Joy Division. The singer also sounds a bit like Thurston Moore.
Basically TPOBPAH encompass the sound of everything great about the 80s!

Still has nothing on their older songs. A lot of people felt they "sold out" their sound in that album.
And it's the "feminine" style high voice that draws comparisons. I actually thought a girl sung most of these songs actually.
