I don't know why people are comparing these two cars. I've owned both - The Charger is substantially more powerful in terms of horsepower and torque (let's assume we're talking about a 383 or 440) and while a B-body Mopar is fairly light, especially in the tail, they really don't handle well. The T/A with a W72 400 is still a very stout combo, but handles exceptionally well. The Charger is true classic muscle, but the T/A is better-suited to all-around driving.

Sorry but the Charger has the Trans Am beat by near 200 horsepower. I'm pretty sure that's enough to still beat the weight difference.

And the Charger and Challenger are more likely to be used in car movies than the Camero I think. I like em all don't get me wrong, I'm just goin by what I see.

@DukeBoyO1 So you actually think the Bandit Trans Am is all stock, no mods?

When those Chargers were built, they didn`t have to worry about emissions and fuel mileage, so ofcourse it`s got more power from the factory. Trans Am needs a bit help to get it`s potential in use, but it`s there, waiting to be released.

I don`t care which one "wins", they`re both cool and I`m Ford guy anyway, but come on, you don`t see their specs from factory brochure...

Yeah but that Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit was hopped up to the hilt (same as the Charger was) and it was putting out way more than 200 horse way back than. Lighter car plus more like 400 or so horse at the rear wheels. I'd put my money on the Trans Am plus the handling was much better from the factory never mind anything that they my have done to it. The Charger handled like a pig. Still i really do love the Charger, the paint and the song. Just the good 'ol boys, perfect

what do you supose the olds 403 did in a firbird? br pretty close to the charger....

the pontiac has 10 year NEWER suspension. in a 'road race' the bird would kick the ass of the boat. - Sure if you beef up the charger then its on agian, then you beaf up the pontiac-- I know this shit, I OWN chargers, pontiacs, And Fords... the majic year was 1970 things got MUCH better in suspension.

Burt remembers that scene of great fear along with the real parents. He spent the entire evening apologizing for the dangerously close driving to the kids. Watch the young cheerleader bend back before the bleacher crash. True story.
