@SuperjointRitual29 You're quite right, Dead was dead by the time De Mysteriis... was recorded. Although a version of Freezing Moon was on that album, this is a different recording, from sometime around 1990 I think. It got released as a single (along with Carnage, recorded at the same time and also with Dead on vocals) some time in the late 90s, then again a bit later as a bootleg split with Meads of Asphodel. I believe these two are the only proper studio recordings Dead did with the band.

The other day, I was walking at night, and the moon looked especially beautiful, and kind of frigid. I found myself kind of fixated/enchanted by it, I couldn't take my eyes off of it. It was a really cool, and kind of scary feeling (I had a vague feeling of dread for some reason). I figured that it was probably a similar feeling to what Dead had that inspired him to write this, so I started listening to this song, it fit the mood perfectly.

well for me there really isn't a "bad" Mayhem. But as far as vocals for this song...to painstakingly break things down...1st part (Dead)...1st slow verse (Maniac)...last verse (Attila...cuz he actually sings it and makes it more epic). I wish there were a way to combine all 3.

@xerxesmv Well, there are several versions of this song with Dead on vocals. They're are 2 versions you could be referring to, the "Out From The Dark" version, or the "Live In Leipzig" version. This version of "Freezing Moon" is off of the "Freezing Moon" EP, and also the albums that Hevisimpanssi was talking about, I guess. The other is the "Dawn Of The Black Hearts" version. And the guy talking at the beginning of this song dosen't even sound like Dead.

@xerxesmv Norweigen Black Metal vocalists weren't too big on vocal effects, since they wanted a more raw sound. Plus, I own the EP (digitally, anyway) that this version of "Freezing Moon" is off of, and it dosen't have the spoken-word intro. It was probably just the uploader of this song trying to mimic the "Live In Leipzig" or "Out From The Dark" version (both contain the spoken word intro.) As for recording location of the "Freezing Moon" EP, I have no fucking idea because it's really obscure.
