As I watched this and cried my 2 pits were on both sides of me. I am so thankful to have them. I rescued both from a shelter. I have had many different breeds in the past but for the past 20yrs I have only had pits because they are my favorite breed.
Pit Bulls were specifically bred to fight to the death for 100's of years (throughout most of its history). This cannot be instantly erased.
All dogs bites, but Pits are prone to bite to the death. It's in their genes. Herding dogs that were born and raised in the city and never around livestock... will often time herd their owner's children automatically w/o any training b/c it's ingrained into their genes. Pit Bulls, will tend to attack & kill, it's in their genes.
@gravylegs1 If you fell so comfortable throwing around their "genes", than use your brain to figure out that they in fact were used and bred to fight, but they were also bred so they won't be harmful to people! The fighting thing is what most people have to say to express their concern about APBT, but it is the most useless facet ever. There are people in cages with fighting pits, they separate them, they punish them and what do pits do? Nothing! Because they were bred not to harm humans.
@gravylegs1 How does any breed end up in a shelter? Irresponsible owners. And that's it, that's the only problem. Any pit which has a responsible owner, who raises his dog properly, will never attack with no reason. Banning the breed does nothing, the best possible thing, although impossible, is to keep breeding of pits or any similar breed to authorized breeders and they should check their customers wisely. That would prevent unnecessary problems.

@gravylegs1 Yes, that's true. It's not responsible behavior. Socialization of "dangerous" dogs is 80% of raising the puppy. 10% goes on obedience and 10% on awareness. A well socialized dog will know the difference between game and a threat, obedient dog will clam down if its owner sees that the other dog could make it angry, but if the owner is not aware of his dogs strength, dog will use it if it feels that's necessary.
@gravylegs1 Anyone who says I dont understand why, my dog would never hurt a fly does not need to own a pitbull. Everyone knows they have a tendancy to be combative with other animals. For crying out loud there terriers. Thats why a responsible owner wouldnt take their pitbull to a dog park or have them off leash with other dogs around, its the golden rule. While a pitbull may not start a fight they will definately finish it. Plenty of socializing goes along way with this breed.

I wear hoody's coz they're comfy and warm, I wear air max's coz I like how they look, I own 3 beautiful dogs all of which are deemed to be dangerous by public perception. My dogs and they way that I dress aren't intended to intimidate anybody, thats just me. I get up with my dogs every morning, I walk them, bath them, feed them, i groom them, spend a fortune on worming tablets, flea drops and vaccinations, collars, beds, toys. Why are me and my dogs seen as the downfall of my country???

I agree 100% with this, also, warning about BSL eventually affecting other breeds of dogs is a VERY good point. Because it WILL happen if people keep supporting BSL. Probably Dalmations will be next.
BSL is breedism (simular to racism). advocates of BSL don't tell the whole truth. 'Pitbull" attack studies include attacks from about a dozen "pit-bull-type" breeds and mixes of these breeds. The majority of "pitbull" attacks are not from American Pit Bull Terriers. All non "pitbull" breeds do not have their stats lumped together. Unfair isn't it? This is how breedism/racism works.
Pitbulls wouldn't have to be mistreated. If people where to get together and make them real expensive and make strict rules on who can breed them. Then there would be a video about how unfair it is to have to be a reputable breeder if you want to breed your pitbull. i've never had a problem with Pitbulls, I have had issues with Rotweilers. But as with almost any agressive dog, its the owners fault. I think one of the reasons pitbulls have such a bad name is because not only do they have a history in dog fights, but there are so many of them running around these days. There's mixes all over the place. So obviously if there's more of a certain breed, that breed will probably have more incidence. Just like if there were more labs or shepherds, they would have more incidents as well.

I guess it depends on where you live. I lived in upstate NY all my life, then move down closer to the city and it seems like a vast majority of the dogs around here have some kind of pit in them. They're cute. :) But I'm sure there's only so many of them because I live closer to the city now. If I lived somewhere else, it probably wouldn't seem like as many lol

coverchenko, you have no clue. Ever owned a collie? the most snappiest dog's ever, I've owned a collie mix for 9 yeas and I can tell you he was one hell of a biter during his youth. It took me years to stop his biting habbit, and no shit my first dog was a chocolate lab and she snapped the heals at everyone (not her fault, she was abused) and sadly had to be put down. So don't you say pit-bull's are bad breeds, it's abused dog's that become killers.

My cousin loved that dog. He grew up with dogs and still loves them to this day. He treated that dog well. loved it and took care of it. the dog snapped for some reason and nearly killed his infant son. I will never trust a pit bull again and have always voted for anti pit bull legislation. they were bred to be violent. it is in their genes.

All the people that are replying to it and saying how "horrible" the breed is do not have one. The media has left an impression on their minds. And without having one you can not debate with a pit bull owner that pit bulls are vicious.
So far in my life, I have had 3 pit bulls...and NONE of them have ever attacked anyone. One of them came from a vet clinic because he was left alone and an ambulance had to bring him in.
We got lucky enough for a friend to phone us and tell us this...and to tell us they were going to put him down if no one took him all because he was a pit bull. (She works at the vet clinic). So, we took him in...he was just a year old. He is the sweetest dog out of the three.
Pit bulls are loyal. Pit bulls have a natural urge to chew on things...but that's why AS the owner...YOU purchase them things to chew...like a big chew toy. Like you would for ANY other dog.
pit bulls are naturally violent and aggressive animals. my cousin had one a few years ago. he got it as a puppy and raised it well but one day the dog mauled his infant son causing severe damage that plastic surgery hasnt been able to completely fix. he killed the dog with a crow bar because it would not let go of his son's face. the jaws had to be pryed open. the kid was lucky to be alive. they are naturally violent and deserve all the discrimination they get.

He obviously didn't take the dog's power seriously. You're not suppose to let animals (ANY pet, dogs, cats, etc) near an infant until the boundaries have clearly been stated and understood by the dog that the infant is now one of the 'owner's and not a threat or a toy. If the dog was ABLE to get to his infant, then I'm sorry, but that was an irresponsible owner, not a 'bad breed'.
My point is, a 1 year old child shouldn't have been around any animal that size without very good supervision. Children are clumsy and often when they're petting, or playing, they'll pull fur or step on paws by accident. Perhaps the dog just had a quick response. My dog was the gentlest dog you would ever met but when she was younger, if someone stepped on her paw, she would snap. Then she'd realize it was an accident and calm down. It's instinct in ALL animals to respond.
I wouldn't because I'm not a dog. But most dogs, if something startles them, they'll respond. Some release quickly. Others (all breeds) get the adrenaline pumping and take longer to realize it was just an accident. We've got a golden lab that lives down the street from me and I wouldn't go near that dog. It's antisocial except for his family. He's not a pit and yet he still has been known to respond to everyone as a threat.

I'm not "against" these animals. I don't want to buy a shotgun and kill them all. They have as much right to live as any other animal, but I'm just making the point at the end of the day they are vicious animals and trying to "prove" they're not is a step in the wrong direction.

Man kills pitbull attacking his dog
ST. Augustine, FL - A man said a pair of pitbulls tried attacking his kids and his dog, forcing him to kill one of the pitbulls.
Bryan Jones, 44, was walking his dog when three dogs, two of which were pitbulls, approached them.
"I picked up my 4 y/o. I couldn't get to the 2 y/o in time and the dog was approaching the 2 y/o" Jones said. "When he got about a foot away from him, that's when I decided to take action on the dog."

Kyniya Harris needed 40 stitches in her leg following the attack.
“The dog just charged up and attacked my girl,” Loretta Harris said. “They weren’t doing anything out there but playing.”

Pit Bulls were specifically bred to fight to the death for 100's of years (throughout most of its history). This cannot be instantly erased.
All dogs bites, but Pits are prone to bite to the death. It's in their genes. Herding dogs that were born and raised in the city and never around livestock... will often time herd their owner's children automatically w/o any training b/c it's ingrained into their genes. Pit Bulls, will tend to attack & kill, it's in their genes.

The fighting thing is what most people have to say to express their concern about APBT, but it is the most useless facet ever. There are people in cages with fighting pits, they separate them, they punish them and what do pits do? Nothing! Because they were bred not to harm humans.

@gravylegs1 How does any breed end up in a shelter? Irresponsible owners. And that's it, that's the only problem. Any pit which has a responsible owner, who raises his dog properly, will never attack with no reason. Banning the breed does nothing, the best possible thing, although impossible, is to keep breeding of pits or any similar breed to authorized breeders and they should check their customers wisely. That would prevent unnecessary problems.

@gravylegs1 Yes, that's true. It's not responsible behavior. Socialization of "dangerous" dogs is 80% of raising the puppy. 10% goes on obedience and 10% on awareness. A well socialized dog will know the difference between game and a threat, obedient dog will clam down if its owner sees that the other dog could make it angry, but if the owner is not aware of his dogs strength, dog will use it if it feels that's necessary.

For crying out loud there terriers. Thats why a responsible owner wouldnt take their pitbull to a dog park or have them off leash with other dogs around, its the golden rule. While a pitbull may not start a fight they will definately finish it. Plenty of socializing goes along way with this breed.

The reason these dogs have so much bad press is because the WRONG people are attracted to these dogs, and they neglect and mistreat them, which would make ANY animal more aggressive. If it wasn't for these people, pit bulls would be one of the most celebrated family dogs.
The only reason I would support BSL is to help prevent ignorant people from hurting these wonderful dogs.

Unless people have had a good experience with pit bulls they dont believe what people like us say. the fear they have for our dogs is too strong. It upsets me soooo much that when I see a pit bull my first thought is " aww how cute" And I know others first thought is "thats a bad dog" I dread the day bsl comes knocking on my door. BSL is breedism (simular to racism). advocates of BSL don't tell the whole truth. 'Pitbull" attack studies include attacks from about a dozen "pit-bull-type" breeds and mixes of these breeds. The majority of "pitbull" attacks are not from American Pit Bull Terriers. All non "pitbull" breeds do not have their stats lumped together. Unfair isn't it? This is how breedism/racism works.

Pitbulls wouldn't have to be mistreated. If people where to get together and make them real expensive and make strict rules on who can breed them. Then there would be a video about how unfair it is to have to be a reputable breeder if you want to breed your pitbull. Rules need to be made not BSL, but ADBA needs to change the hole game and not give out CH. for fighting dogs and make breeders prove they are repudable. Make buyers prove they are a tax paying, law abiding citizen.

i've never had a problem with Pitbulls, I have had issues with Rotweilers. But as with almost any agressive dog, its the owners fault. Ppl should stop blaming a breed and look to the owner, maybe give them some jail time or bann them from owning a dog,and don't put the dog down. Thats cruel and ignorant.

Do yo have any idea how rare that is? MOST issues with ANY dog arise from the owners bad teaching. Sure there is the odd dog that just has violent tendancies, thatn a responsible owner would know this and take steps to prevent the dog from EVER hurting someone...its the OWNERS responsability...the dog is just a dog.

It's sad how such loving dogs can be treated like that. I only problems I have ever had with 2 pure breeds i had and the 2 mixes I currently have are that they are huge babies that think they weigh 5 pounds and the fact that not one of them can go a day with out trying tackle and lick me.

Pitbulls were bread to fight because they don't easily turn on their owners and if they do something might have been wrong with them. I know many people are inbreeding pits to make them meaner and innocent people get them and bad things happen.

I think one of the reasons pitbulls have such a bad name is because not only do they have a history in dog fights, but there are so many of them running around these days. There's mixes all over the place. So obviously if there's more of a certain breed, that breed will probably have more incidence. Just like if there were more labs or shepherds, they would have more incidents as well.

I guess it depends on where you live. I lived in upstate NY all my life, then move down closer to the city and it seems like a vast majority of the dogs around here have some kind of pit in them. They're cute. :) But I'm sure there's only so many of them because I live closer to the city now. If I lived somewhere else, it probably wouldn't seem like as many lol

I have been around dogs and owned a wonderful dog for 9 years, I've been around pitbulls and they are such sweet dogs. And by the way, pitbulls were bred for bull bating not killing children, oh but you'd believe that media hype any day.
Dogs of all breeds (not just pits) bite because of bad owners. So stop pointing the finger at a certian breed!

coverchenko, you have no clue. Ever owned a collie? the most snappiest dog's ever, I've owned a collie mix for 9 yeas and I can tell you he was one hell of a biter during his youth. It took me years to stop his biting habbit, and no shit my first dog was a chocolate lab and she snapped the heals at everyone (not her fault, she was abused) and sadly had to be put down. So don't you say pit-bull's are bad breeds, it's abused dog's that become killers.

thats because the few pitbulls that are left in circulation do not add up on the percentage. retrievers are not violent animals and will only be so if treated poorly. pit bulls are naturally violent.

My cousin loved that dog. He grew up with dogs and still loves them to this day. He treated that dog well. loved it and took care of it. the dog snapped for some reason and nearly killed his infant son. I will never trust a pit bull again and have always voted for anti pit bull legislation. they were bred to be violent. it is in their genes.

Staffies are great too! Interestingly, in 1999 a survey was done in the UK (the breed was banned in the early 90s) and there was NO REDUCTION in dog bites!!!! But I'm sure the media would never tell you that - it might cost ratings.

My whole problem with the debate going on about this video is this:
All the people that are replying to it and saying how "horrible" the breed is do not have one. The media has left an impression on their minds. And without having one you can not debate with a pit bull owner that pit bulls are vicious.
So far in my life, I have had 3 pit bulls...and NONE of them have ever attacked anyone. One of them came from a vet clinic because he was left alone and an ambulance had to bring him in.

We got lucky enough for a friend to phone us and tell us this...and to tell us they were going to put him down if no one took him all because he was a pit bull. (She works at the vet clinic). So, we took him in...he was just a year old. He is the sweetest dog out of the three.
Pit bulls are loyal. Pit bulls have a natural urge to chew on things...but that's why AS the owner...YOU purchase them things to chew...like a big chew toy. Like you would for ANY other dog.

pit bulls are naturally violent and aggressive animals. my cousin had one a few years ago. he got it as a puppy and raised it well but one day the dog mauled his infant son causing severe damage that plastic surgery hasnt been able to completely fix. he killed the dog with a crow bar because it would not let go of his son's face. the jaws had to be pryed open. the kid was lucky to be alive. they are naturally violent and deserve all the discrimination they get.

the dog was probably provoked some how. they do not, the first drug smelling dog was a pit bull named popcicle, he was raised as a bait dog, and was treated horribly. he came out of it fine, and the first war dog was a pit bull named stubby. served his nation

He obviously didn't take the dog's power seriously. You're not suppose to let animals (ANY pet, dogs, cats, etc) near an infant until the boundaries have clearly been stated and understood by the dog that the infant is now one of the 'owner's and not a threat or a toy. If the dog was ABLE to get to his infant, then I'm sorry, but that was an irresponsible owner, not a 'bad breed'.

My point is, a 1 year old child shouldn't have been around any animal that size without very good supervision. Children are clumsy and often when they're petting, or playing, they'll pull fur or step on paws by accident. Perhaps the dog just had a quick response. My dog was the gentlest dog you would ever met but when she was younger, if someone stepped on her paw, she would snap. Then she'd realize it was an accident and calm down. It's instinct in ALL animals to respond.

I wouldn't because I'm not a dog. But most dogs, if something startles them, they'll respond. Some release quickly. Others (all breeds) get the adrenaline pumping and take longer to realize it was just an accident. We've got a golden lab that lives down the street from me and I wouldn't go near that dog. It's antisocial except for his family. He's not a pit and yet he still has been known to respond to everyone as a threat.

I'm not "against" these animals. I don't want to buy a shotgun and kill them all. They have as much right to live as any other animal, but I'm just making the point at the end of the day they are vicious animals and trying to "prove" they're not is a step in the wrong direction.

there isnt one fact to prove pits r any more dangerous than any other dog breed temperment varies from dog to dog they dont bite harder they have never been statistically proven to be more dangerous than any other breed they scored a 74.3 on the atts which was higher than about 95% of the commonly tested breeds and their record in sporting events like weight pulling etc pretty much dominate every other breed and of all the animals granted super dog status half have been pits they r superior dogs

I understand what you're saying, and I agree partly. I work with pit bulls, and they are prone to being aggressive. no matter how many times people say that the dogs are not born aggressive, they'll always be wrong. you can't socialize it out of the breed. I own 2 pit bulls, but you've gotta know the breed.
