Ratio: 49x17 or 49x16

Helmet was a Gios Atmos (I think)

Frame is a Lightning NJS, which was a short-lived keirin studio in the 1980's. My frame is stamped 1982 on the bottom bracket shell. I broke the original fork but Colby got me another NJS fork from the same era for a replacement.

I may have bombed steeper hills than Phill, but I think Phill has better style. Rainier is faster and Josh is definitely crazier than all of us. Thanks! - Steve B.

@Josheeeewa I would love to know too. If you pause around 1:50 you can see a lightning bolt on the headtube. You can also see "light....." written at the top of the seat stay. If anyone knows of any brand of frame that has something to do with light/ lightning then speak up!

Riding fixed brakeless is waaaayyyyyy toooooo sloooooooooooow. You can't ride as fast as you can with a front brake. Braking hard n late into corners using the front brake wins every time for overall fast riding and fun. More fast = more fun.

@itsAJVD For a person who isn't that experienced in riding track bikes, I'd suggest you get a 46/17. Or if you really can't handle that I suggest getting a 46/18. The higher the rear cog, the easier it is to skid with one foot, but you don't gain too much speed, so by the end of the day of riding 10 miles, you'll be beat. I ride with a 49/15, I have been riding track bikes for 6 years, if you cycle that long, with 35 miles everyday, your legs will be bulls. I ride brakeless btw.

@itsAJVD its really not about the gear ratios but on the technique you use. But using high gear ratios will make you use a little force to do it. Just stiffen your strongest leg and it should work.

You don't neccesarily have to get new back tires all the time, You can rotate your back tire so the skid spot isn't the same all the time, and you could also switch your back tire with your front tire. More effecient ways to keep your tire intact for a longer amount of time.
