This is a brand new hospital, yet it looks as if the patient has to be taken onto the street to the ED - which mastermind planned this?

Can the pad take military helos, or are military patients still going to be landed elsewhere?

The road on the clip runs across the northern end of the new hospital and won't be a main road. This road is Metchley Park Road and is the main access into the old QE Hospital and Birmingham Women's. From June 16, that bit of road will be renamed Mindelsohn Way and only used by the public to access the new hospital’s ED. Barriers and lights will control traffic during a patient transfer from the helipad. The helipad’s location provides the fastest possible access to the ED.

The helipad won't take military helos because it's designed for the civilian air ambulance. The Chinooks are too big and heavy to land there. Military patients come into Birmingham Airport on an RAF C-17. See the miltary medicine pages on NHS Choices for more info.
