Wow ! I'm am really becoming a fan of Grand Funk Wow !! what a rockin band, I wish they come together so I could see them live, he can really dance love that Indian dance, favorite and 5 stars.
Yeah, it's true GFR was more popular than Zep or even CCR at that time, but world wide it was Deep Purple and Black Sabbath who were taking over with Pink Floyd not far behind, and the
I loves the Funk. Donnie & Mel's GFR was enjoyable, but I dig the quartet with Craig. Great stuff here. I'm not a musician, but Mark's Gibson jazzy guitar on the '75 tour is a fave, but he has a unique taste in guitars that always works for him. His new solo LP is still on my wishlist. Funk on!
I got used to the "classic" solo Mark did on this song, then I saw them on In Concert, with the organist, and was dissapointed that Mark changed his solo. (probably got tired of it) I'm glad to see he did the classic solo in this video. I made a name for myself, locally, duping this solo, back in the day, and I still play it now and again. Like the way they sound on modern equipment, too.
I remember GFR received some good press attention with this reunion. I recall in an interview the original trio did with one of those Goldmine-type publications that Mark said Capitol bootlegged the Bosnia live album on them.
As with their first reunion in the early '80s, I still felt Craig should have been back in the band, too. He had become an integral part of their sound in '72.
Amazing performance...but i find mark's guitar too overdriven :(...anyway it's great don't get me wrong, but i like it better how he used to play with the messenger...
The New York Daily News' Nationwide Readers' Poll for 1971.
Tens of thousands of votes were cast from every state in the nation. Whe the final score was tallied, Grand Funk Railroad had garnered a whopping 75% of the total vote as "Best Rock Group In The U.S." Left to split up the remaining 25% were: 2 Creedence Clearwater, 3. Jackson Five, 4. Led Zeppelin, 5. Three Dog Night, 6. The Who, 7. Sly, 8. Santana, 9.Chicago, and 10.Ten Years After!
GFRxR was generous enough to leave the remaining 25% of the "scraps" for the other top 9 bands to fight over. I think it's funny that The Might Zep was out-voted by Jackson 5. Hahahaha! What they get for pulling power plug on GFRxR in Detroit! This is an incredable stat that shows the dominance of GFRxR in '71. No wonder there were riots by fans not getting a ticket.
GFRxR was a real people's band. Rejected by critics, GFRxR still became the first band to sell 10 consecutive platinum albums. They broke The Beatles ticket sales record at New York's Shea Stadium in '71. Despite all this success, they remain ignored by The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Please sign the petition above to induct Mark Farner & GFRxR now!
OK all you Funk Brothers & Sisters, I have posted some more rare Farner videos from '87. Search PackedFunk. There are more coming also. As with all my GFRxR/Farner videos, there is a link in this video's description to a petition to induct Mark Farner & GFRxR into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. It takes only seconds to sign it. Come on all you Funk Brothers & Sisters. We need your signature & comments!
Now this is good.Theses guys really need each other because they both suck big time in there other copy bands.I know you Farner fans hate to hear that but his band sucks too just like Dons band, its a shame that you tube is flooded with theses half ass video's of Marks band he cant even solo, that free jam terrible guitar 12 yr olds blow him away , but when there all together, there my favorite band.
Wow why you say Mark not good as 12 year old I see him in Sweden and I admit is band not like Grand funk but he was good. I do like Mark to play with his real band, but easy tnuc dont brek hearts I think he good soul
I love this clip. I really like when it gets on 5:12....When he does the "Native Stomp." (that's what I call it, no disrespect) I love to watch this part....so cool! What a performer. Mark can do it all!! My Mom says hi to all of you guys. She loves you, too!! (and Grand Funk)
Hey Bekki & FUNK MOMMA! This is how we all kick his ass...Get a "postage free subscription card" from a Rolling Stone magazine, attach it to big box with an old tire in it, or fill it with anything you want, write ATTN: JANN WENNER, return address: GFRxR FAN. Thousands of tires a day in the mailroom of Rolling Stone? I know you're laughing FUNK MOMMA! Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk! What up Bekki!
Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone Magazine is the reason GFRxR is not in the R&R HOF! To Hell with that piece of crap & his shitty magazine. I'm not buying another one of his shitty magazines until his attitude changes. This idiot knows nothing about music! It makes you wonder where they get some of these fools!
Hey Packed. Who the H is this Jann Wenner anyway? Why don't WE ALL kick his A#%! I could think of another word for him, other than "idiot." But I'll refrain from saying it. This video clip here proves just how great these guys were..together. Mark is always....AWESOME!
Hello Bekki. That Jann Wenner dude is the CEO of Rolling Stone magazine. He has the final say on who gets in or not. From what I have read, he has a vendeta against GFRxR because they wouldn't give interviews in the early seventies to his piece of crap magazine. Today he black-balls them. He doesn't care what The People want.
This is an awesome performance of this great song. Tell me, if there is a better front-man than Mark Farner, I've yet to see him!!! There was something magical when these 3 guys played together. It is true that they challenged each other, plus unlimited energy, & fearless.
This is actually from the Declaration of Funk show,Pine Knob,MI,on July 4,1998 when they changed the normal set list quite a bit. Also showed the video film from Detroit awards show on the big screen at this show.A MAGICAL evening!
GFRxR have 33 gold & platinum ALBUMS earned & many gold & platinum singles. They also still hold many ticket sales records. NOT being recognized by The R&R HOF is a bitch-slap to every fan who bought one of those albums or concert tickets.
These guys are so GREAT when they are TOGETHER and "ALL ABOUT THAT GRANDEST OF FUNK~SYNERGY"
THIS GOD GIVEN TALENT TO MAKE PEOPLE SO HAPPY IS SO MUCH BIGGER THAN ANYTHING THAT MADE THEM HANG UP ON EACHOTHER! C'MON PHONEX! YOU GUYS NEED TO BURY THE HATCHET AND RISE AGAIN!
I agree amuzinsuzin 100%! These guys have something very special together! Farner is still the greatest front-man bar none!!! Everyone sign the petition in this video's description!
I told FunkMomma that she is becoming quite popular on this site! At 83, and mostly immoble, she is STILL pretty sharp. After all, she still digs listening to Grand Funk!
bekki53...our best wishes go to FUNK MOMMA for a full recovery. After all..when we roll into Cleveland in the FUNK PARTY BUS, we wanted FUNK MOMMA surfing the roof holding the flag!
Ha ha.(and LOL) FD3755....I'm afraid that the only thing FunkMomma surfs these days..is the net! But she's still hangin' in there pretty tough! Oh man. Wouldn't that be something if we all got on the ride to Cleveland. Wow. That would be THE RIDE of a lifetime!!
This is a truly great performance of their classic. I want to thank littleozzyboy for this great video. Everyone please sign the petition in this video's description.
Dear Lord, I ask that you guide Mark, Don & Mel on to a path of re-union, a path to a new beginning of FUNKINESS as a power trio we once knew. I ask this Lord cause I'm gettin' old. I ask you bless the 'Movement' and in advance of gettin' GFRxR inducted into the Hall of Fame, I Thank You Jesus! AMEN!!!! FUNK ON PEOPLE!!!!!!!
