His academic record is controversial so that's why people are having doubt on him. And most importantly, it is HIM who showed off his academic talent in front of media. I have seen the news about Tablo before but I never knew what it was all about. I guess I didn't bother at the time but when I saw him as a guest at a Korean show called Strong Heart, I had the strong urge to Google him and find out what he's all about. When I read his accomplishments, I just had to admire this man for being able to achieve something great especially his education at Stanford. The way he speaks English is just amazing. :)

Tablo's scandal is a huge example of how sad and pathetic Korean society is. Judging people based on their academic background. Praising people based on people's academic record rather than their talents. In Korea, everything revolves around academic background, which is why over 90% of all Korean families send their kids to hagwon, spending thousands of unnecessary money just on their kids. People even suicide over low scores of Suneung(Korean SAT) as if it's end of the world. Fucking pathetic.

Although I've only been in Korea for 3 months as an exchange student, LOT of Koreans treat you based on your academic background, wealth, or your occupation. I've also met lot of international Korean students from Korea who came to the U.S. to learn English or to get their bachelors. Those who are in the U.S to get their bachelors are here because without a bachelors from prestigious universities, you don't get treated like human.
Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic... but the rest of the world is turning into it, if you haven't noticed. And the number of people who really hate and doubt Tablo is a small percentage.
Talent is still well recognized in Korea. Though I don't truly adore them, the kpop idols are quite talented. The real problem in Korean society is that they also consider appearance as talent.

@EdDy4RheelZ It is true that SOME, NOT ALL, of the people judge people based on their academic records, but it is not true that sending kids to hagwon is a waste of money. Even if today's Korean Society revolved around people's academic backgrounds, when the kids go to hagwon, they learn, and they become more intelligent. I was born in Korea so I know how wrong the education systems are but you can't mention people who suicide over their scores on 수능 and say it's pathetic. People are born into that society without their consent and all you see and learn for your entire life is like that. you can't say ANYTHING is pathetic unless you have been in their shoes which is impossible really.
@orangespice9 Perhaps I have no real right to speak of something I don't truly understand since I've never been in a Korean students shoes and I realize there is a lot of pressure from outside sources yet when you get caught up in the flow of society to the point of suicide it is pathetic or at least pitiable that you could not be strong enough to handle it. There are a lot of people who have to deal with just surviving, you're dealing with a test score. Try again or learn to live without.

Because she could have done a number of things. Also, although I have only lived my one life there are quite a few pathetic people out there; people who get picked on, people who beg for money, people who rely on others, and more. So you may want to choose your words wisely as well.
@RealChinese when I said you can't say anything is pathetic, I meant you can't practically be in the other people's shoes. At least that's what I think. A woman who is being abused by her boyfriend was maybe afraid and didn't take any action and thought that way because of her personality. You can say, I understand that situation and I can judge on that which I do all the time as well, but I think it's wrong because you have never been in the exact same situation with exact same personality.
@orangespice9 It's because their personality is weak that is what makes them pathetic. If the woman was to weak minded to do something about it, it would be pathetic. If the situation called for her to be in such a position where she could not do anything then perhaps it would be some free way. A character in a book doesn't have to be in a bad situation to be pathetic for one thing. If you can say no one is truly pathetic than you can say nobody is truly strong, a hero, cool, or anything.
@RealChinese Everyone's pathetic at some point from different perspectives. And it's true there are pathetic, strong, or cool people out there. But I don't call people pathetic who suffered from depression and die. I don't know if you'll think I am a freak if I say this or not but I believe in spirits as in ghost or evil. And I think any people who suffer from depression are affected by that force.
@RealChinese and I don't really understand people who suicide for any reason either. They say with the courage you have to kill yourself, you can do anything in the world. I also think something is pathetic but I tend not to say it out loud. You know why? because we are all pathetic at some point and we all have some weaknesses. People who commit suicide are pitiable people who needed help at that very moment they were going crazy.

However, it is the society that perpetuated the notion as well as the pressure that if you cannot live up to the expectation of them you are worthless. Maybe you get judged by people you love and care and have to see greedy miserable faces from your teachers and parents. you have to compete and hate your friends who are too important in your life bc in the end you get compared with another. He actually took a hard way out, flipping burgers, making sandwiches, majoring in English literature, which is something NO other Korean students from Korea has ever done in prestigious universities. He got bachelors in 2.5 years, masters in 3.5. His English literacy was very high enough that he prolly read Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace long time ago. Because of this ridiculous scandal that he had to go through, imma be his fan as well.

I guess I didn't bother at the time but when I saw him as a guest at a Korean show called Strong Heart, I had the strong urge to Google him and find out what he's all about. When I read his accomplishments, I just had to admire this man for being able to achieve something great especially his education at Stanford. The way he speaks English is just amazing. :)

Tablo's scandal is a huge example of how sad and pathetic Korean society is. Judging people based on their academic background. Praising people based on people's academic record rather than their talents. In Korea, everything revolves around academic background, which is why over 90% of all Korean families send their kids to hagwon, spending thousands of unnecessary money just on their kids. People even suicide over low scores of Suneung(Korean SAT) as if it's end of the world. Fucking pathetic.

Although I've only been in Korea for 3 months as an exchange student, LOT of Koreans treat you based on your academic background, wealth, or your occupation. I've also met lot of international Korean students from Korea who came to the U.S. to learn English or to get their bachelors. Those who are in the U.S to get their bachelors are here because without a bachelors from prestigious universities, you don't get treated like human.

Even if today's Korean Society revolved around people's academic backgrounds, when the kids go to hagwon, they learn, and they become more intelligent. I was born in Korea so I know how wrong the education systems are but you can't mention people who suicide over their scores on 수능 and say it's pathetic. People are born into that society without their consent and all you see and learn for your entire life is like that. you can't say ANYTHING is pathetic unless you have been in their shoes which is impossible really.

@orangespice9 Perhaps I have no real right to speak of something I don't truly understand since I've never been in a Korean students shoes and I realize there is a lot of pressure from outside sources yet when you get caught up in the flow of society to the point of suicide it is pathetic or at least pitiable that you could not be strong enough to handle it. There are a lot of people who have to deal with just surviving, you're dealing with a test score. Try again or learn to live without.

A woman who is being abused by her boyfriend was maybe afraid and didn't take any action and thought that way because of her personality. You can say, I understand that situation and I can judge on that which I do all the time as well, but I think it's wrong because you have never been in the exact same situation with exact same personality.

If the situation called for her to be in such a position where she could not do anything then perhaps it would be some free way. I also think something is pathetic but I tend not to say it out loud. You know why? because we are all pathetic at some point and we all have some weaknesses. I agree we are all pathetic sometimes but sometimes you have to realize that you are or need someone to tell you. I just overhead everything from my friends in Korea. So I wasn't really trying to defend Korean students but I just got emotional after seeing someone calling dead people in general pathetic.

However, it is the society that perpetuated the notion as well as the pressure that if you cannot live up to the expectation of them you are worthless. Maybe you get judged by people you love and care and have to see greedy miserable faces from your teachers and parents. you have to compete and hate your friends who are too important in your life bc in the end you get compared with another. I'm not a fan of Tablo because I'm not much into Korean music but it surprises me how many losers exist in Korea and try to cyber assassinate someone who is very talented and does what he loves. Although I'm not Tablo's fan, Tablo is very intelligent and very determined. Most people abandon their childhood hip hop days once they get into universities unless they plan to pursue their careers in hip hop(Victor Kim from Quest crew). Tablo not only has Masters, he has true passion for hip hop.

He actually took a hard way out, flipping burgers, making sandwiches, majoring in English literature, which is something NO other Korean students from Korea has ever done in prestigious universities. He got bachelors in 2.5 years, masters in 3.5. His English literacy was very high enough that he prolly read Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace long time ago. Because of this ridiculous scandal that he had to go through, imma be his fan as well.
